Take care of Skin & Hair in Corona Lockdown

Women and men are at home to stay safe from worldwide COVID-19 Virus. Therefore, during the time of quarantine take tips from beauty expert Aashmeen Munjaal, Director Star Salon & Academy for hair and skin care.

Activities to bring glow on the skin:

‘If you want that your metabolism should not get affected due to low physical activities, then you can walk 10 minutes on the stairs. First up, then down, this will give you a good workout. If you like to dance, then dance to a song in the room. This will keep your hair and skin both good. Maintain activity for at least 20-20 minutes in the morning, afternoon and evening. This also helps in the circulation of antioxidants in the body.’

Stay away from processed food:

‘Processed food has a bad effect on both body and skin when physical activities are reduced. That is why take as much processed food as you can. The less original you take the food, the better it is, because it will strengthen your immune system, on the other hand it is also helpful in producing antioxidants, which is very important at this time. In this time if you are drinking juice, coconut water then it is good for your body. As much as possible, eat fresh vegetables, fruits and salads. Eat light food with fewer spices, it will be good for you, skin and body will be healthy even with soup diet. ‘

Use natural ingredients for skin care:

‘If you want, you can follow my tried recipe. For this you need a cucumber, tomato and a potato. Wash and grind all three in a grinder. You can make its ice cubes by putting it in a tray of ice and leave it for 15 minutes by applying one cube daily. When you start the kitchen work in the morning, first put this cube, then do the kitchen work and then wash it. A tray will last for a week for the whole family. This will keep the skin glowing. At this time, even if women are not able to take the services of the parlor, then by adopting this domestic method, the skin will look fine.’

How to get rid of dead skin:

‘At this time the weather is changing, in this case, add half a teaspoon of semolina with gram flour to make the bathing skin glow. If there is bran at home, add half a teaspoon of bran. If the skin is oily, then add rose water to this mixture, if the skin is normal, then with curd and if your skin remains very dry, make a pack with mustard oil. Keep the ingredients different according to the skin type, but mainly gram flour and semolina are used. Keep the ratio of gram flour and semolina in it 2: 1, that is, if taking 2 spoons of gram flour, take one spoon of semolina. If you are thin, then take one teaspoon gram flour and half a teaspoon of semolina and keep the quantity a little more or less according to your physique. After applying it while bathing, it has to be removed by rotating round and round. If you wish, you can also get rid of it by wetting the skin with water in between. It helps in better blood circulation, makes skin glow and also gets rid of dead skin.

And most important tip, Stay inside your house, keep on washing hands and using sanitizer. It’s a time to stay with your family, give time to your family.

“Chappa Chappa Afwaah Chale” The Lockdown Track

14 Indian artists collaborate from homes to create unique music video

Inspired by the spirit of India and Indians, some of the country’s most well-known singers along with a bevy of young upcoming artists have collaborated online to create a unique song titled “Chappa Chappa Afwaah Chale”, based on Vishal Bhardwaj’s evergreen hit from the film Maachis.

Led by Padmashri and National Award winner Hariharan, the band that calls themselves ‘The Sur-Viralists’, comprises of celebrities from various fields including Padmashri Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, playback singers Roop and Sunali Rathod and Ishaan Dutta, MasterChef Ranveer Brar, the young sibling duo of Actor Karan & Music Producer Akshay Hariharan, the svelte and talented Reewa Rathod, Marketing Guru turned Foodpreneur Vinod G. Nair, Diamond merchant Punit Gupta, renowned IT Advocate Nadeem Lasani, US based cryptocurrency expert Rakesh Sreekumar and music composer Immanuel Berlin.

The brainchild of Vinod G. Nair, who has also penned the lyrics for the Lockdown version of the original soundtrack, the song cautions people to not become victims of rumours (Afwaah) and to avoid being party to spreading false rumours.

The 5-minute track will release as a 1-minute promo video, that too has been entirely self- shot by the band members in their homes and the full track will be available as a free download on all social media and music platforms.

The Chappa Chappa Afwaah Chale track will be released on April 2, 2020 at 5pm across all social media platforms simultaneously. Follow #TheFightAgainstAfwaah, #AfwaahStopCorona  and #TheSurViralists for updates.

When we started off with the project, we all felt that it was impossible to achieve. But thanks to the marvel of technology and app-based platforms, we did it, says Vinod G. Nair, who conceptualised the initiative. “After this, we are now gearing up to do an even more ambitious project aimed at infotaining people as they battle the virus from their homes”, he adds.

Says Hariharan, “In the current environment where everybody is #gharbaithoindia and under #lockdown, the spread of rumours via social media especially whatsapp is alarming. We want to tell people to ignore rumours and to stop their friends and others from spreading them”.

Legendary Chef Sanjeev Kapoor, who is also an avid drummer, adds, “The song is a fun track with a serious message behind it – Afwaah Roko, Corona Roko. For every 1 person getting infected with the #COVID-19 virus, there are hundreds getting infected by the Afwaah Virus, which is equally dangerous and debilitating. People experience fear, despair and frustration due to uncontrolled rumour mongering and tend to be disturbed through-out the day”.

The 1-minute promo video is a light-hearted humorous look at the frustrations of people who are being bombarded with #fakenews, rumours and Afwaahs all day long.

Locked in homes, Indians switch to TV for news and daytime drama

The COVID-19 lockdown may have hit life hard, but it has boosted media consumption patterns worldwide. Television news and smartphones saw an increase in eyeballs as the need to stay updated and connected is today’s essential commodity.

Digital news publisher BISBO has stressed on these insights as some of the emerging trends from India’s COVID-19 lockdown period. BISBO, from the GoBisbo Broadcasting Network Pvt. Ltd is India’s first YouTube channel for animated news explainers and commentary. The organisation also keenly follows and expounds on the latest trends in news and media consumption.

Out of the current total 959 billion minutes of viewing time per week, the highest views went to three genres – news, movies and kids content.

“Right now, the Indian audience covets credible news, even children between 2-14 years of age. There is also a lot more reliance over credible news sources on television and apps, rather than news aggregators”, shared Shakir Ebrahim, founder and creator of Bisbo.

He stressed on the recent insights shared by BARC India and Nielsen, a media research organisation, in their report ‘COVID-19 Impact: What’s Happening In the TV and Smartphone Landscape’. This report lists changes in television and smartphone behaviour over the last month, against our media habits in January 2020.

What we watch and why

We’re watching a lot of television – an approx 70 billion minutes of it! The average daily viewers clock 32 more minutes each day, with each of our 592 million viewers watching at least 3 hours and 51 minutes of it. They are spending an average 17% more time on the news, 4% more on films and 11% more on kids content.

Age-wise, children between 2-14 years and teens between 15-21 years are the ones who’re watching the most television. And what they watch is chiefly in Hindi – Hindi content consumption is the highest, rising in this time by an overall 8%, followed by Malayalam and Tamil content. The number of children who are sitting in front of their television screens also shares a disturbing insight. There are not enough online options for education – meaning that this disruption from schooling will leave a dent on their learning.

Another trend is the surge in non-prime time watching habits. There is an overall 20% increase in the consumption content between 6 AM to 6 PM (18% in urban areas and 23% in rural areas). So, not all Indian viewers have found suitable work from home routines and our spending their days with daytime TV. There is also a surge in viewership from noon, indicating that families have fallen into daily routines, which free them by this time.

Our handheld zone

Our smartphone consumption patterns have also changed during the lockdown period. We’re now spending nearly 25 hours per week with our devices per week (at least 1.5 hours more than earlier). Age-wise, 33-44 year-olds are occupying most of their time on these handheld devices.

They spend most of this time on chat and social networking (277 minutes and 242 minutes per week respectively), followed by video on demand (VOD), gaming and news. The changing times have, however, increased their need for the last segment the most – news consumption is up by 8% users and 17% in terms of time spent.

They’re also looking forward to people to people connections, though not necessarily through calls. Direct calls have risen by just 4%, which means that we look forward to these connections on chat instead. “Chat conversations are high as they are easier to get in and out of. They also link into the larger slice of time we’re dedicating to social media as well”, Ebrahim added.

Speaking of social media usage, we’re now spending more time on Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok than ever before. The number of sessions per week per user have also increased by 20% across all three, while time spent is also up by an average of 25%.

These are unforeseen times, where the Indian audience is evolving to indoor isolation and seclusion. It would be worthwhile to see how this continues to impact their media habits over the next few weeks.
