‘My Craft My Pride’-Where Tradition Meets Modernity
The Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) celebrated India’s vibrant handloom and craft traditions with a special showcase titled ‘My Craft My Pride’ on the second day of the World Crafts Forum 2024. The event, organized by the World Crafts Council (WCC) and backed by the Ministry of Textiles, spotlighted the harmony between traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design, emphasizing sustainability and innovation in India’s craft industry.
A lineup of renowned designers—Anjana Bhargav for DHI, Payal Jain, Suket Dhir, Gaurav Jai Gupta for Akaaro, Anavila Misra, and Kazakhstan’s Aidar Khan—presented collections that merged heritage craftsmanship with modern aesthetics. Each designer’s work reflected India’s rich craft traditions, promoting cross-cultural connections while highlighting the importance of sustainable fashion.
Sunil Sethi, Chairman of FDCI, expressed his appreciation to the World Crafts Forum 2024 and the Ministry of Textiles for providing this platform. “We are grateful to the World Craft Forum 2024 and DC Handicraft, Ministry of Textiles for giving us this platform,” he shared. “With ‘My Craft My Pride,’ FDCI celebrates the beauty and adaptability of India’s sustainable crafts, interpreted by six of our most talented designers.
