A Kid-Friendly Guide to Exploring Tri-Valley

The Tri-Valley area, one of California’s safest and most scenic regions, is the perfect family getaway. Just 30 miles from San Francisco, the cities of Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin, and Danville offer an exciting mix of outdoor adventures, interactive museums, theme parks, and fun-filled dining experiences. With expansive parks, engaging attractions, and charming small-town vibes, Tri-Valley promises an unforgettable family trip. Here’s a four-day itinerary packed with adventure, creativity, and relaxation for all ages.

Day 1: Livermore – A Day of Fun and Relaxation

Start your adventure with a delicious breakfast at Monica’s Livermore, known for its hearty meals and welcoming atmosphere. Then, head to Lost World Adventures, a massive family-fun center where kids can explore play structures, arcade games, blacklight mini-golf, climbing walls, a ropes course, mini bowling, laser tag, and a ninja agility course.

After an action-packed morning, unwind at one of Livermore’s family-friendly wineries. At Boa Ventura de Caires Winery, kids can enjoy a tire swing and meet the resident chickens while parents savor a glass of wine. McGrail Vineyards and Winery offers vast picnic-friendly lawns with bocce ball courts and breathtaking vineyard views—perfect for a relaxing afternoon.

Cap off the day with a family dinner at Sauced BBQ & Spirits or First Street Alehouse, and settle in for the night at Fairfield Inn & Suites Livermore, Homewood Suites by Hilton, Hilton Garden Inn, or The Purple Orchid Wine Country Resort & Spa.

Day 2: Danville – Nature, Museums, and Tasty Treats

Spend the morning exploring the Blackhawk Museum, home to five incredible galleries. While car enthusiasts will love the rotating automobile collection, younger visitors will be captivated by the immersive Spirit of the Old West, World of Nature, Into China, and Art of Africa exhibits. Grab lunch at Fat Maddie’s Blackhawk, known for its fresh and flavorful dishes.

In the afternoon, set out for an outdoor adventure at Rock City in Mount Diablo State Park. Kids can climb wind-sculpted caves, explore tunnels, and follow the Trail Through Time for stunning rock formations and fossilized remnants of the past.

Wrap up the day with pizza at Ascona Pizza Company or indulge in Lottie’s Creamery, a local favorite on the Tri-Valley Ice Cream Trail with small-batch flavors like Mint Fudge Cookie and Vanilla Salted Almond Toffee. Before calling it a night, stop by Osage Park, where kids can enjoy an Old West-themed playground with a mini train station.

For dinner, check out Hazy BBQ, a laid-back, family-friendly eatery, before resting at Best Western Danville Sycamore Inn.

Day 3: Pleasanton – Creativity and Culinary Delights

Kickstart your morning at Créatif Art Studio, where kids can unleash their creativity through canvas painting, pottery, ceramics, and mixed-media crafts. If your little ones love pottery, visit Color Me Mine in Downtown Pleasanton for a fun, paint-your-own ceramics experience.

For lunch, grab a slice at Gay Nineties Pizza or Zachary’s Pizza Pleasanton. If you’re in the mood for casual dining, SideTrack Bar + Grill offers a relaxed setting with kid-friendly options. Don’t forget to stop at Meadowlark Dairy, a must-visit on the Tri-Valley Ice Cream Trail for their signature soft-serve, known affectionately as “swirlies.”

Settle in for the night at The Rose Hotel, Pleasanton Marriott, HYATT House Pleasanton, or DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pleasanton at the Club.

Day 4: Dublin – Splash, Play, and Unwind

Start your final day with an exciting morning at The Dublin Wave, Tri-Valley’s premier aquatic recreation center. This family-favorite destination features water slides, a splash playground, sports pools, and shaded picnic areas. For a relaxing brunch afterward, head to Denica’s Real Food Kitchen, known for its fresh, homemade meals and kid-friendly options.

For some afternoon fun, visit Imagine Playground, an inclusive, all-abilities park designed for kids of all ages and abilities. With interactive play structures and plenty of space to explore, it’s a fantastic way to wrap up your Tri-Valley adventure.

End your trip with a cozy stay at Aloft Dublin-Pleasanton or Hyatt Place Dublin/Pleasanton, ensuring a restful night before heading home with unforgettable family memories.
