Anju Modi’s new Spring Summer’19 collection, Masakali, is a meditation on the art of finding joy in serene moments that are often forgotten in the meteoric madness of a world that is constantly striving to be hyper-connected at all times. And the inspiration comes from Anju’s love for nature, where masakali means sprouting of a bud. The collection is based on fresh new looks where the silhouettes are a contemporary take on Indian wear; where floral embroidery is juxtaposed with versatile textures, smock detailing and trims of crochet. The fabrics are all breathable but luxe, ranging from Banarasi, Chanderi, khadi, cotton and linen that consists of kurtis, capes, palazzos and skirts.
The elegantly crafted ensembles were curated in a span of over six months. The colours vary from pastels to mustards, all soothing yet adding a hint of colour to show the bright sunlight falling on dewy grass.“The inspiration for Masakali also comes from my love for nature and I guess you can see that,” says the designer, whose clothes have always been known to stand out for the embroidery she uses.
