Frequently asked questions answered by the Beauty Icon
* Please give remedies for dark arms and oily face.
Sun exposure causes tanning. Apply sesame seed ( til ) oil daily and massage it on the skin. You can also use a scrub three times a week, mixing rice powder with curd and a little turmeric. Apply on hands and rub gently on the skin. Wash off with water. Look for a sunscreen that prevents tanning and apply on the hands before going out in the sun. For oily skin, wipe with astringent lotion after cleansing, using cotton wool. Mix multani mitti with rose water and lemon juice into a paste. Apply on the face daily and wash it off when it is dry.
* How do I remove dirt that sticks to my scalp?
Heat olive oil. Part the hair in sections and apply on the scalp using cotton wool and rubbing gently. Leave on overnight. Next morning, apply lemon juice on the scalp, also rubbing gently. The oil and lemon will loosen the dirt. Wash hair with plenty of water. Lemon juice added to a mug of water can also be used as a last rinse after shampoo.
* I have open pores and my skin is dry. Please suggest a remedy?
Open pores actually occur on oily areas of the skin. You may be having a combination skin. Use a facial scrub twice a week only on the areas with open pores, to keep them free from clogged oil. Mix oats with egg white into a paste and apply only on the areas with open pores twice a week. Wash it off when it is dry. If there is dryness, mix one teaspoon pure glycerin with 50 ml water and keep in a bottle. Apply a little of this mixture on the face to relieve dryness.
* How can I use henna?
Henna may be used to condition the hair. To the henna powder add 4 teaspoons each of lemon juice and coffee, 2 raw eggs and enough curd to mix into a thick paste. It should be of toothpaste-like consistency. Divide the hair in sections and apply the henna on both sides of the section, so that it is totally covered with henna. Wrap the section around the head. Now repeat this with each section, till the hair is totally covered with the henna paste. Keep it on for at least one hour and wash off.
