Frequently asked questions answered by the pioneer of the Ayurvedic Beauty Movement
Q1. Please give me some remedy for tan. My face, neck, hands and feet are really tanned. Please tell me how to remove this tan and how to avoid it.
First of all, apply a good sunscreen lotion before going out in the sun on the face, neck and arms. For the hands and feet, apply sesame seed (til) oil before bathing. Then mix besan with curd and add a pinch of turmeric. It should be a thick paste, which does not drip. Apply this on the face, neck, hands and feet 20 minutes before bathing. For the face and neck, you can mix lemon juice and rose water in equal quantities and apply. Wash it off after 20 minutes. Do this daily. Try to avoid sun-exposure from 12 noon to 3 p.m.
Q2. I don’t use any toner, moisturizer for my face. But I go out frequently, so please suggest what to use. My skin is mostly oily. Which sunscreen should I use?
Cleansing and toning is more important if your skin is on the oily side. You can apply a sunscreen gel. As a home remedy, you can use a face wash for oily skin. You can tone the skin with chilled rose water. Dip cotton wool in it and wipe the face with it. You can apply a matte moisturizer.
Q3. My hair is dry. Could you suggest some tips for extra hair care to make it smooth and shiny?
Heat pure coconut oil once a week and apply it on the hair the night before your shampoo. Then do the hot towel wrap. Once a week apply curd on the hair half an hour before shampoo. You can also use a leave on conditioner or hair serum.
Q4. I have a child of four months and have found that my hair fall has increased drastically. Please help.
Post-pregnancy hair loss is very common. It is due to hormonal imbalances. Once the hormones settle down, the hair loss will stop. You can apply a herbal hair tonic daily. You can ask your doctor to prescribe vitamin and mineral supplements. In case you are breastfeeding your baby, you can ask your doctor if you can include a small bowl of sprouts in your daily diet. You should also try to stop worrying about hair loss, as stress can aggravate it. Do some deep breathing exercises daily.
