Frequently asked questions answered by the Beauty Icon
Q1. My knees are black. Please suggest a home remedy. Also, please tell
me which oil is good for the hair, almond oil or olive oil?
For knees, take lemon pieces and rub them daily on the knees, before bath.
Wash off and then apply sesame seed (til) oil or olive oil and massage it into the
skin. A cream containing turmeric and lemon would also help. After bathing, while
the skin is still damp, apply cream or body lotion and massage it into the skin.
Almond oil is beneficial if the hair is dry. It will also help hair that has split ends,
or has suffered damage due to straightening or colouring. For oily hair or
dandruff, olive oil may be better.
Q2. I have combination skin. I have dark patches on my cheeks and nose.
Suggest some home remedies to achieve clear skin.
Protection from the sun is extremely important. You should apply a sunscreen
with high SPF twenty minutes before going out in the sun. If you stay out in the
sun for long, re-apply the sunscreen. Mix rice powder with curd and use it as a
facial scrub once or twice a week. Apply it only on the dark patches and rub
gently on the skin with tiny circular movements. Leave on for a few minutes and
then wash off with water. Mix honey and lemon juice in equal quantities and
apply daily only on the dark patches. Wash it off after 15 minutes with plain
water.
Q3. I have a dandruff problem. If I don’t apply oil daily, the hair becomes
full of dandruff. Please give me a solution?
Oily hair attracts dirt and pollutants. These can clog the pores of the scalp. Wash
your hair with a mild herbal shampoo at least three times a week, using less
shampoo and rinsing well with water. Half an hour before shampoo, apply two
tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, massaging it lightly into the scalp. Take one
teaspoon of shampoo, dilute with a little water and apply. Only one application of
Shampoo is enough. Once or twice a week, heat olive oil and apply on the scalp
at night, using cotton wool and rubbing gently, to dislodge the flakes. Leave it
overnight. Next morning, apply the vinegar half an hour before shampoo. Include
fresh fruits, raw salads, sprouts and yogurt in your daily diet. Drink plenty of
water. Add the juice of a lemon to a glass of water and have it first thing in the morning.
