Beauty Care after Winter

By Shahnaz Husain

After winter, nature renews herself. We need to do the same. We need to change our winter skin care routine and look for beauty swaps that are right for spring. If your skin is normal to dry, start giving it daily toning, moisturizing and nourishing treatments. Since soap and water washing can cause further dryness, try a home remedy.

Just Me Rose Jasmine Moisturiser

For normal to dry skin, prepare a cleanser at home by mixing half a cup of milk with half teaspoon of any vegetable oil, like sesame seed (til) oil, or olive oil, or sunflower oil. Put the mixture in a bottle and shake well. Wipe your skin with this, using cotton wool and keep the remainder in the refrigerator for the next 2 or 3 days.

Use green tea to tone the skin. Put a green tea bag in hot water. Cool and use the liquid to tone the skin. Or use rose water.

Instead of using rich nourishing and moisturizing creams, mix together 1 ripe avocado, with one teaspoon each olive oil, curd and honey. Apply on the face and leave on for 20 to 30 minutes. Wash off.

Mix half a teaspoon of honey with egg white and one teaspoon of dried milk powder. Mix into a paste and apply on the face. Wash after 20 minutes with plain water.

For normal to oily and combination skin, mix a few drops of glycerin with one teaspoon each of rose water and curd; apply regularly on the face to relieve dryness and beautify the skin. Wash off after 20 minutes.

To remove tan, mix cucumber juice with two teaspoons of yogurt and a pinch of turmeric. Apply on the face and wash off after 20 minutes.

Mix one teaspoon each of vinegar and honey with one egg.  Beat

them together well. Massage the mixture lightly into hair and scalp. Then wrap the hair in a hot towel for twenty minutes, before washing the hair. Your hair will have more body and look shiny and manageable.

To add shine to the hair, whisk egg white with the juice of a lemon and apply on the hair half an hour before your shampoo.

For glowing skin, mix grated apples with ripe papaya pulp, mashed banana and curd. Apply it on the face and leave it on for half an hour. Wash off with plain water.

A few days of care and your skin and hair will recover from the assault of winter weather.
