There are some interesting facts that surround the much-loved Oktoberfest event that you probably don’t know about. Check them out…

  1. Despite the name Oktoberfest, the event actually takes place at the end of September
  2. Sticking to true Bavarian culture, Oktoberfest only sells beer from within the city limits of Munich throughout the festival
  3. Locals know the event as ‘wiesn’. It’s named after the Theresienwiese, which is the name of the land where it takes place
  4. Originally, Oktoberfest was celebrated to honour Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage in 1810
  5. Munich is the busiest time of the year during Oktoberfest, where people from all over the world head to the Bavarian capital to enjoy the event….6 million in total.
  6. During Oktoberfest, traditional visitors wear Bavarian hats (Tirolerhüte). The more tufts of goat hair on your hat, the wealthier you are considered to be.
