What’s on my Mind …
On August 15, India will celebrate its 74th Independence Day but the celebrations this year will be different due to the corona virus pandemic.
Let’s hear what these exceptional women have on their minds this Independence Day…
“I’m in Mumbai this Independence Day. Since the day reminds every Indian about the dawn of a new beginning, I just wish it also leads to dusk of the covid-19 situation in our country and around the globe. Me being from an army background, also adds a lot of importance to life, I look forward to brighter days ahead with flag hosting on TV ,kite flying at home and wearing my tricolour bangles”, shares Actor Mannara Chopra.
“Every year the Independence Day reminds us of the strength of the Indian people to overcome most difficult situations with courage and determination and the same is being reflected by efforts taken by the people of India in these harsh times to overcome this pandemic. Let’s welcome this Independence Day in style donning the tricolor masks to get freedom from the ongoing pandemic”, says Designer Savi Abott who has designed tri-colour masks for the occasion.
Joan Miro once said, “A simple line painted with the brush can lead to freedom and happiness.” “If you ask me, art is the most beautiful form of freedom. If you do not embrace your freedom and unleash it on your artwork, your canvas will be a blank space. Freedom for me is to choose, what I want to be, to say what I feel and to paint what my soul wants to speak and that is the freedom that matters the most. If each of your movement is controlled, thoughts monitored and brush strokes are resisted, independence would mean nothing. Art is what sets me free as an artist and art is what gives me a taste of freedom”, says Artist Swati Pasari.
“Freedom is hard to get, but we were blessed to have it. Let’s appreciate everything we have and celebrate the great miracle of freedom. We all have come a long way in this fight against Covid-19, but it’s still not the end. We have a long path ahead. All I can think this Independence Day is to provide the labour and artisans as much work as possible. I have designed some of the most exquisite masks using hand embroidery, aariwork and pearls, to keep workers engaged. Its helping them sustain in this tough time. Economic empowerment is something which is on my mind this Independence Day. We have also designed some beautiful independence day face masks which washable and reusable, so we do not disrespect the tricolour by discarding the masks after one use”, adds Designer Tuhina Mehrotra.
