India Inclusive Summit 2026

Highlights Accessibility, Digital Inclusion & Disability Rights in New Delhi

The India Inclusive Summit 2026 was held today at Silver Oak, India Habitat Centre, bringing together policymakers, accessibility advocates, technology companies, and persons with disabilities to discuss the future of digital accessibility and inclusive technology in India.

Organized by NAB Delhi, the summit was supported by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Tatsat Foundation, HCLTech, HCL Foundation, and United Way Delhi. Around 200 attendees participated in the event, including disability rights advocates, legal experts, government officials, and representatives from leading tech companies such as Microsoft, Google, HCLTech, and BarrierBreak.

Accessibility Challenges Remain Despite Existing Policies

One of the key discussions at the India Inclusive Summit 2026 focused on the gap between accessibility policies and their implementation across digital platforms in India. Teams from Microsoft demonstrated how Windows Narrator and screen reader technologies help visually impaired users navigate digital systems, while also highlighting ongoing accessibility failures in websites, apps, and public platforms.

The conversation around digital accessibility also addressed the lack of accountability in enforcing accessibility laws. Amar Jain, a blind lawyer and accessibility advocate, questioned why apps and websites continue to remain inaccessible despite legal frameworks already being in place. His remarks reflected growing concerns within the disability rights community about delayed implementation and the absence of penalties for non-compliance.

Inclusive Employment and Accessibility in the Workplace

Employment and inclusive hiring emerged as another major focus area during the summit. Dr. Sumi Gupta from Tatsat Foundation emphasized that skill development programs for persons with disabilities must lead to real employment opportunities and long-term workplace inclusion. Discussions between companies and accessibility leaders centered on creating more inclusive recruitment practices and improving workplace accessibility.

Inclusive India Awards 2026 Winners Announced

The summit also hosted the Inclusive India Awards 2026, recognizing organizations and individuals contributing to accessibility and disability inclusion in India.

  • Best Institution: Microsoft for improving accessibility within Windows platforms
  • Best Service Provider: BarrierBreak for accessibility testing and inclusive digital services
  • Best Individual: Amar Jain for legal advocacy and accessibility rights work

Ramdas Athawale Calls for Inclusive Digital India

Chief Guest Ramdas Athawale stated that the vision of Digital India must include all 21 million persons with disabilities across the country. He stressed that accessibility initiatives, including the Sugamya Bharat App, must function effectively not only in urban centers but also in rural India.

He also encouraged NAB Delhi to monitor whether government accessibility schemes are delivering meaningful impact on the ground.

NAB Delhi Announces Next Steps

Looking ahead, NAB Delhi announced the formation of collaborative working groups with participating technology companies. The first major goal will be to improve accessibility across government job portals and ensure compatibility with screen readers and assistive technologies.

Speaking during the summit, Prashant Ranjan Verma from NAB Delhi said the focus now should be on measurable action rather than continued discussions.

Founded in 1979, NAB Delhi continues to work toward education, employment, and equal access for blind and low-vision individuals across India, advocating accessibility as a right rather than charity.
