Jaipur Art Summit presents ‘Tone in Stone’ sculpture camp in Laterite stone at Dapoli, Maharashtra.
In its tenth year, the Jaipur Art Summit is setting up an International Arts Village in Dapoli, Ratnagiri, Maharashtra and the project kick starts with a stone carving sculpture camp, ‘Tone in Stone’ at Exotica Suvarna Samudra, Dapoli from 27th March to 3rd April 2022.
Curated by Mumbai based Sculpture Artist, Mahesh Anjarlekar and Coordinated by Dr Amita Khare, this week long camp will witness ten senior artists and ten scholars from all over India and neighbouring countries, Nepal and Srilanka as well.
The International Arts Village is being set-up with an aim to develop multi art and culture activities in the Ratnagiri district, which is otherwise famous for Mangoes.
Shailendra Bhatt, Founder Director, Jaipur Art Summit reveals, “The ‘Laterite Stone’ is native to this part of Maharashtra and our focus is to start not only carving on laterite stone but also striding ahead to create a new vocabulary of global art to the Ratnagiri Region. Our effort is to explore this stone traditionally used for building purposes as a unique medium of visual art, this will help to popularize the material as an affordable alternative and break new ground in the art sphere which will also highlight the material and give impetus to the local economy.”
“We at Exotica Suvarna Samudra are excited to host the stone sculpture camp being organised by Jaipur Art Summit in Dapoli to work on local Stone by eminent Artists around the nation and neighbouring countries. An event of this scale will prove to be instrumental in giving global recognition to the Laterite stone, locally known as “Chira” here. Dapoli has an unrealised potential to become one of the top tourist destinations of India, and such global events are required to mark its presence. I am sure we will get support from the entire tourist Industry, administration and people of Dapoli,” adds Rahul Hubba, Founder Exotica Suvarna Samudra and Sylvan Greens.
Curator Mahesh Anjarlekar says, “Dapoli is my native town and I feel elated to have received this opportunity to curate ‘Tone in Stone’ highlighting the native Laterite stone with an aim to give due acknowledgement to this unexplored locale Stone as medium for sculpture and in the process, support employment through stone art and craft.”
