Celebration of International Women’s Day

A power packed Panel Discussion on Each for Equality:  Accelerating Inclusive Growth  followed by felicitating women achievers with FLO Women Transforming India Awards 2020 marked the celebration of International Women’s Day by FICCI Ladies Organisation in Hotel Le Meridien.

FLO President, Harjinder Kaur Talwar said, “ On this International Women’s Day Each for Equality is a call for a proactive and unified stand, wherein we can collectively fight the challenges, break stereotypes, look beyond gender and work towards a just, equitable and sustainable world.”

In the Panel Discussion,  H.E. Mr. André Aranha Corrêa do Lago, Ambassador of Brazil and H.E. Dr. Heba Salah Eldin Elmarassi, Ambassador of Egypt shared their experiences experience in context of their own countries and highlighted on the emerging role of women in these countries and underlined the role of the government in harnessing the strength of women.  The Indian perspective was shared by Nistha Satyam, Deputy Country Representative, UN Women.  Smt Meenakshi Lekhi, Member of Parliament moderated the session and shared her inputs.

“It is also very important to recognize success stories of women achievers. This will not only inspire them to do better but also inspire other women to bring out the best in themselves.”, Harjinder added. 

To Commemorate International Women’s Day 2020, 6 women of excellence were felicitated for their outstanding achievements in their respective area of work, with the FLO WOMEN TRANSFORMING INDIA AWARDS 2020.  The awardees included:

·        Shahnaz Hussain, Founder, Chairperson & Managing Director, The Shahnaz Husain Group (As an ICONIC Entrepreneur)

·        Dr. Shobha Vijender Gupta, Founder President, Sampurna (for her contribution in social work

·        Sonal Kalra, Managing Editor of HT (for her contribution to journalism)

·        Lalita Nijhawan, Director, Nijhawan Group of Companies (to felicitate hr as a Business Leader in Travel Industry)

·        Preiti Patel, CMD, Raspian Enterprises Pvt. Ltd. (for Breaking the glass ceiling in Business)

·        Shivani Malik, Marketing Director at Da Milano Leathers Pvt. (for her contribution in marketing and Communication)

Also, on this occasion, an MoU was signed between UN Women and FLO for working towards empowerment and inclusion of women entrepreneurs in the private sector.

The celebrations of International Women’s Day ended with the soulful musical renditions by NIZAMI BANDHU and PHOOLON KI HOLI

Other distinguished guests present were Shri Vijender Gupta, Member of Legislative Assembly and member of BJP’s National Executive; Shri Sudhanshu Mittal, Political Thinker and BJP leader; Smt Rekha Sharma, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women in India and Mr Dilip Chenoy, Secretary General, FICCI.

Twins Nungshi Tashi won Nari Shakti Puruskar from President today

PRESIDENT HONORS DEHRADUN’S EVEREST TWINS 

NARI SHAKTI PURUSKAR

Popularly known as ‘Everest twins’ NungshiTashi were among the 15 inspiring women awarded by the President in a glittering ceremony at the Rashtrapati Bhawan today in the presence of the Minister of Women and Child development  Smriti Irani and Finance Minister  Nirmala Sitaraman. They were also the youngest among all the awardees this year.

The awards are given away by the President of India every year on 8 March, International Women’s Day at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

The twin sisters have earlier won India’s highest adventure honor ‘Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award’ in 2016 and ‘Global Young Explorers Award’ from the President of Iceland in the same year. Last year they were among the nine ‘all women’ sports persons recommended for the Padma Awards by the sports ministry.Dedicating this award to the resilience and optimism of the Indian girl child, they said ‘We climb on behalf of all girls, many of whom are denied their basic human rights merely to survive’.

This year they are set to be the featured stars of the ‘under production’ adventure block buster Television series ‘Eco Challenge Fiji’ on Amazon Prime.

Talk Session When Court Room turned into a Healing Room  

On the occasion of International Women Day District Legal Services Authority North & North-West organised a talk show for all the judges posted at Rohini courts complex on 07.03.2020. Dr. Anju Sharma (Psychiatrist cum energy and sound healer) interacted with the judicial officers in the said session.  She gave presentation on “Let’s understand what our body speaks’ and ‘balancing professional and personal life”. Through this Dr. Sharma aimed to help the esteemed Judges on easing their mental pressure mainly focused on “ how to handle anxiety and stress” in professional as well as personal life ,further, taught meditating skills and unique techniques to handle work  pressure in this session by use of various colours in daily life.

In this session, District & Sessions Judge North Ms. Swarna Kanta Sharma was also  present along with other senior  judges including Sh. Manu Rai Sethi Ld. Principal Judge North, Sh. Vinod Kumar Ld. District & Session Judge North (Commercial Court) and Ms. Seema Maini  Ld. District & Session Judge North -West(Commercial Court) and other judges of Rohini Courts. Ms. Swarana kanta Sharma Ld. District and Session Judge North, gave her valuable inputs and stressed upon the gender equality in each and every aspect of life. This session was appreciated by all judicial officers.
