Western Australian Premier on an inaugural visit to India to strengthen economic ties and boost tourism

Adam Gilchrist  joins the team to promote Western Australia to Indian travelers

Australian cricket legend Adam Gilchrist has joined the head of the Western Australian Government, Premier Mark McGowan, in India to promote Australia’s largest state as a holiday destination.
Premier McGowan today announced his Government, through Tourism Western Australia, would invest an additional $1 million to encourage more Indians to holiday in WA.
Mr. McGowan also introduced Mr. Gilchrist as Western Australia’s new tourism “opening batsman” to help promote the State as a holiday destination.
The Premier and Mr. Gilchrist’s visit has included meetings with Indian media, travel trade representatives and airline representatives in a bid to increase leisure and business visitation to WA, with a focus on encouraging Indians to travel to WA for next year’s ICC T20 World Cup.
The additional $1 million funding will also raise awareness of WA as a holiday destination in the lead up to the cricket and help to encourage direct flights between India and Perth. It will be invested in cooperative marketing campaigns, trade education, consumer awareness, media, and public relations activities.
The visit has also seen Mr. McGowan and Mr. Gilchrist take part in a charity kids’ cricket clinic for the Magician Foundation, which uses sport to promote education and important life skills to children living in India’s poor communities. The Premier donated cricket kits to the foundation, on behalf of the people of Western Australia, to help its expansion to cricket.
India is a growing tourism market for Western Australia. In 2018-19 there was an 11.1 percent overall growth in visitor numbers from India to 30,900, with leisure visitors increasing by 15.3 percent to 14,100.
Tourism Western Australia committed funds to market Western Australia in India for the first time just over 12 months ago.
The initial wave of marketing activity coincided with the first-ever cricket test match to be played at Perth Stadium in December 2018.

The creative trio of Mohit Suri, Mithoon and Arijit Singh have come together for the very first time for a non-film song ‘Intezaar’. This song is composed and written by Mithoon and features  Arijit Singh and Asees Kaur. The video stars India’s television stars Sanaya Irani and Gurmeet Chaudhary who bring alive the ballad in the larger than life music video.
THE INSPIRATION
It comes from the yearning for those in love where you continue to live in hope, even after the relationship has ended.  Intezaar brings alive two contrasting sets of emotions; one where a person is living in hope that his love may return and the other where one has gracefully accepted the end and moved on.
ONE-OF-ITS’S-KIND NON-FILM MUSICAL EXPERIENCE
Arijit Singh and Asees Kaur have soulfully expressed these emotions in their inimitable style.  Directed by Arif Khan, the music video depicts the highs and lows of a relationship through contemporary dance interlaced with poignant story telling.
Speaking about Intezaar, Mithoon says “Mohit and I always like to work on a thought when it comes to any song. He gave me the idea to come up with a song which talks about yearning and hoping against hope. I responded by giving him this melody and he got very excited about it. He initially wanted to use it in Aashiqui 2, but later on, we both felt it wasn’t fitting in the narrative of the film. Time passed but we both held on to this song very dearly in our hearts. Even Arijit would keep asking me about where are we going to use it. Earlier this year, VRYL Originals approached me to do a project with them and Mohit kept pushing me to do something in the non-film space. I reworked on theentire structure of the song and added the voice of Asees Kaur, who I think elevated the song with her honesty. Finally, it all came together as a true musical experience”
Speaking about this latest release, Mohit Suri says “Mithoon and I have an association that goes back two decades. Whenever we have worked on music it has never meant to be delivered as a super hit but just something that we both believe in. I have been after Mithoon to do something in the non-film music space because I believe his music is beyond films. I am very happy that Arijit and Asees have lent their voice to this composition. I had acertain vision for this song and Arif Khan has taken the video a notch higher.Both Gurmeet and Sanaya have not just enacted the video but felt every word of the song.”
