Robotic Revolution

India’s First Surgical Robot Roadshow Rolls Through Rajasthan

In a moment that marks a turning point for India’s med-tech landscape, SS Innovations has officially launched the SSI MantraM “Made in India” Surgical Robot Yatra, a first-of-its-kind mobile robotic surgery training tour. The Yatra, flagged off from the company’s headquarters in Gurugram, aims to bridge the gap between cutting-edge surgical technology and accessibility for healthcare professionals across the country—beginning with Rajasthan.

In the presence of Shri Rao Narbir Singh, Hon’ble Minister for Industries & Commerce, Government of Haryana, the mobile unit embarked on a 1,500 km journey that will take it through Jaipur, Jodhpur, and Ajmer from July 3 to 10, visiting leading medical institutions and offering hands-on robotic surgery training to more than 500 doctors and medical students.

“This is not just a vehicle—it’s a movement,” said Dr. Sudhir Srivastava, Founder Chairman & CEO of SS Innovations. “With SSI MantraM, we are taking robotic surgery out of select hospitals and into the heart of India. We are making this technology real, reachable, and relevant.”

A Roadshow Built with Purpose

The roadshow’s centrepiece is SSI MantraM, a state-of-the-art mobile surgical unit built on a BharatBenz 1824 chassis. Measuring nearly 12 meters in length and weighing over 18,000 kg, the unit is more than just a demonstration lab—it’s a fully equipped training and simulation centre on wheels.

Inside, it houses SSI Mantra, India’s first indigenously developed multi-arm surgical robotic system. Designed for stability and functionality, the unit includes:

  • Expandable space for live procedure demonstrations
  • Custom-fitted carts and surgical stations
  • Actuator-driven arms for precision simulation
  • Built-in power backups and EMI/EMC-compliant systems
  • Air-conditioned, climate-controlled interiors for optimal training conditions

Crucially, the mobile unit is telecommunication-enabled and future-ready, with research underway for satellite connectivity that could soon support real-time remote telesurgery, even in areas without consistent infrastructure.

Taking Robotics to the Heart of Rajasthan

The Rajasthan leg of the tour begins at SMS Medical College, Jaipur (July 3–4), followed by a high-profile presence at RUFCON at AIIMS Jodhpur (July 4–6). It then moves to Mathura Das Mathur Medical College, Jodhpur (July 7) and wraps up at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, Ajmer (July 8).

Each location will host interactive sessions featuring live simulations and training modules led by experienced surgeons and engineers, allowing participants to explore the full capabilities of the SSI Mantra system firsthand.

“For many of these doctors, this will be their first close-up look at advanced robotic surgery,” said Dr. Srivastava. “And that’s the point—to make innovation inclusive.”

A Symbol of National Pride

Speaking at the launch, Shri Rao Narbir Singh emphasized the significance of the initiative:

“It is a matter of immense pride that Haryana is home to SS Innovations. This is not just about medical technology—it’s about leadership. The SSI MantraM Yatra reflects the spirit of a self-reliant India, where innovation is born at home and shared with the world.”

The “Made in India” tag is more than a slogan here. Every element of the Mantra robotic system—hardware, software, surgical design—has been developed by Indian engineers in close collaboration with leading Indian surgeons. The technology supports a wide range of specialties, from general and gynecological surgery to more complex procedures like cardiac and urological operations.

Precision Engineering Meets Real-World Needs

From a design standpoint, SSI MantraM is meticulously engineered to travel safely and perform consistently. It includes:

  • A reinforced structure with vibration-dampening for robotic arm safety
  • Dedicated mounting points and secure locking mechanisms
  • A well-ventilated operating cabin held at 21°C ± 3°C with 55% RH
  • Onboard 5 kVA power generators and a 380-litre diesel tank for long hauls
  • Separate driver and surgical zones for uninterrupted operation

Safety, mobility, and modularity were core design goals. The unit also features side panel exits and custom-built ramps for smooth movement of both people and equipment.

Reimagining Healthcare Delivery

What sets the SSI MantraM roadshow apart is not just the technology on display—but the vision behind it. This initiative is part of a broader mission by SS Innovations to democratize access to world-class surgical tools in India.

“We believe that excellence in healthcare shouldn’t depend on your postal code,” Dr. Srivastava said. “SSI MantraM will go wherever it’s needed—Tier 2, Tier 3 cities, and eventually into rural regions. We’re here to change the narrative of access.”

As the Yatra rolls on, SS Innovations plans to extend it to other states in the coming months, bringing the same hands-on training and awareness to doctors across India.
