Technological innovation in architecture

By Aatika Manzar, Founder Director at Aatika Manzar Designs

Architecture necessitates evolution. The technological innovations in the architecture field are booming now and will create a huge impact. Here are a few advantages to tapping into advanced technology to strengthen and support architectural design.

1. The impact of digital modeling and virtual reality-This means that the designers are entering the Virtual and augmented reality where both the buyer/ client can get a virtual experience of the space without even entering the space. Through virtual reality, they can finalize the finishes of the wall fabrics easily.

2. Building Information Modelling:-In this method using software we can cut on all the stakeholders that have a part to play in the process of the building. Because of a lot of stakeholders the processes and data also cause material wastages and delays with weak monitoring and control over execution. Advanced Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools solve this problem by providing a common data environment and enabling everyone to work on a single collaborated model.BIM technologies help you to create digital twins. While 5D BIM allows for cost and time overlays, 6D BIM also accounts for energy budgeting. These solutions identify clashes during the initial stages and improve overall workflow efficiency. BIM also helps in reducing execution timelines and eliminating design flaws at a planning stage, as opposed to making changes after execution, thereby improving Return On Investment

3. Drone technology – Nowadays a lot of architects use drone technology for a better view of the site. They can be equipped with GPS, onboard computers, hardware, electronics, sensors, stabilizers, auto-pilots, servo controllers, and any other equipment the user desires to install. Which helps in the layout and planning of the space

4.3D Printing:-This innovation is something that has been there for a while but is also something that to date comes to hand. In this, the architect can get a 3D block of the building made and show it to the client for a better understanding

5-Parametric Designs- With the update in technology now making parametric design have become easier as now through virtual reality and better 3D software conceptualization has become easier

6. Internet of Things for Sustainability: The Internet of Things (IoT) can be used very effectively by contractors to connect high-value construction machines and workers to monitor utilization. For example, IoT can be used to link heat, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, therefore helping manufacturers, contractors, and end-users monitor their performance and determine issues before they become heavy outages. IoT sensors send back alerts when they detect a problem, allowing contractors to prevent equipment failures, meet energy efficiency compliance standards, and unlock new revenue streams. IoT-based systems can improve energy efficiency by real-time monitoring usage trends by deploying artificial intelligence and enabling supervision from anywhere. The end result is optimization of energy consumption, thereby benefitting tenants and the environment with greener building operations.
