After a grand start on day one, the 3-day Thumri festival saw some amazing performances on day 2. The musical fiesta by Sahitya Kala Parishad will go on till 28th August 2022 starting every day at 6:30 pm at Kamani Auditorium, Mandi House.
On the second day celebration started off with Dr. Rita Dev’s performance. She started with a thumri in Manjh Khamaj and the lyrics were ‘Jag padi mai to piya piyake jagaye’, this was followed by Dadra ‘Ganga reti pe bangla chabayda more raja’. Her next presentation was Kajri and its lyrics were ‘Kahnwa mano o radha rani’. Her melodious rendition also included Jhoola in raag Megh with the lyrics ‘Yugal bar jhoolat de gale vahi’. She ended her act with a bandish ki thumri in raag khamaj. Later, Sonali Bose intimated the listeners with the intricacies and emotional expressions of her Thumri performance. She presented Khamaj in Raag Mishra ‘Itni Aaraja Mori Manle’ followed by a Kafi in Raag Mishra ‘Jaab Se Shyam Sidhare’. Her third presentation was a Dadra in Raag Mishra Pilu, the lyrics were ‘Sabariya Pyara re Mori Guiya’. She ended her performance with a Kajri – ‘Barse Kari re Badariya Mor Chunaria Bhiji Jai’. The evening came to an end with a melodious performance by Kakali Mukherjee. She first presented Thumri based on Mishra Maru Bihag, this was followed by Kajri in Mishra Kaushik Dhwani. She ended the performance with Dadra based on Shivranjani.
The annual Thumri festival started on 26th August where versatile artists like Pt. Bholanath Mishra, Madhumita Ray and Indrani Mukherjee mesmerised the audience with their performances. The third day of the festival will also see some breathtaking performances by eminent artists like Indresh Mishra, Sunanda Sharma and Padma Shri Shubha Mudgal.
