Brand USA Celebrates 250 Years of the United States With 50 Family-Friendly Travel Experiences
As family travel continues to evolve, many travelers are prioritizing destinations that allow multiple generations to explore together. From outdoor adventures and cultural landmarks to theme parks and immersive museums, the United States offers a remarkable range of experiences that appeal to visitors of every age.
To mark the country’s upcoming 250th anniversary, Brand USA, the nation’s official destination marketing organization, has introduced a curated list of 50 family-friendly travel experiences across the United States. Released as part of its America the Beautiful campaign, the initiative highlights destinations designed to inspire discovery—whether families are traveling with young children, teenagers, or grandparents.
According to Fred Dixon, President and CEO of Brand USA, the coming years will offer several milestone travel moments across the country.
“Families visiting the U.S. will have the opportunity to experience landmark events such as the celebrations surrounding America’s 250th anniversary, the centennial of Route 66, and the global excitement of the FIFA World Cup,” Dixon said. “Alongside these events, travelers can explore national parks, major cultural institutions, beach destinations, and iconic attractions that make the United States an ideal destination for family travel.”

Family Experiences Across Every Region
The experiences span every region of the country, showcasing how families can tailor their journeys based on interests, accessibility, and pace of travel.
In the Northeast, outdoor exploration and heritage sites feature prominently. Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens in Maine offers interactive spaces such as the Alfond Children’s Garden, while Old Sturbridge Village in Massachusetts recreates 19th-century New England life through historic homes, craft demonstrations, and immersive exhibits. In nearby New Hampshire, Clark’s Bears continues a long tradition of family entertainment with wildlife shows, train rides, and small museums filled with vintage artifacts.
The Mid-Atlantic region blends culture, history, and entertainment. Visitors to Ellis Island National Museum of Immigration in New York can trace family ancestry through millions of historical records. In Washington, D.C., the network of museums operated by the Smithsonian Institution—including the National Air and Space Museum and the National Museum of Natural History—offers free entry and hands-on educational experiences for children.
Across the Midwest, interactive attractions and large-scale family activities take center stage. The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, the largest children’s museum in the world, spans five floors of exhibits ranging from dinosaur fossils to science labs. In Missouri, the imaginative City Museum in St. Louis transforms reclaimed materials into a towering playground of slides, tunnels, and climbing structures.
The South features a mix of theme parks, cultural sites, and natural attractions. Walt Disney World Resort in Florida remains one of the most visited family destinations in the world, while Dollywood in Tennessee blends rides and live entertainment against the backdrop of the Smoky Mountains. In North Carolina, Grandfather Mountain draws visitors with sweeping views from its famous Mile High Swinging Bridge.
Further west, science, music, and culture shape the experience. The U.S. Space & Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama—often described as the world’s largest space museum—allows visitors to see historic rockets and space artifacts up close. Meanwhile, the Musical Instrument Museum in Arizona presents instruments from around the world through immersive displays and interactive listening stations.
On the Pacific Coast, wildlife encounters and creative attractions draw families outdoors. At the San Diego Zoo Safari Park, visitors can explore expansive habitats such as the recently opened Denny Sanford Elephant Valley. In Anaheim, Disneyland Resort continues celebrating its 70th anniversary as one of the world’s most iconic destinations for family entertainment.
Beyond the Mainland
The list also highlights destinations in U.S. territories and island regions. Visitors to Puerto Rico can experience adventure activities at Toro Verde Adventure Park, while the Polynesian Cultural Center in Hawaii introduces families to the traditions of Pacific Island cultures through performances, storytelling, and hands-on activities.
Across the Northern Mariana Islands, a short boat trip from Saipan leads to Managaha Island, known for its calm waters and accessible snorkeling spots—ideal for family excursions.
Travel That Brings Generations Together
While the destinations themselves vary widely—from botanical gardens and museums to rodeos, national parks, and theme parks—the underlying idea is simple: family travel is about shared experiences.
For travelers planning future vacations around America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, the curated list serves as a reminder of the diversity of landscapes, cultures, and stories that shape the United States—and the many ways families can explore them together.
