Vivanta Surajkund-NCR celebrates the International Year of Millets at the Surajkund Craft Mela 2023

Vivanta Surajkund-NCR is delighted to celebrate the Year of Millets at the biggest annual crafts fair in the world – Surajkund Craft Mela 2023.

Bringing in an unforgettable experience of the quintessential Indian millet intertwined with the innovation of tasteful dining, Vivanta Surajkund-NCR presents a culinary journey weaved with the values of social responsibility at the festival. Celebrating the International Year of the Millet 2023, the hotel’s meticulously designed menu is a gastronomically innovative storytelling of the superfood by Chef Prashant Banerjee.

As proposed by India, United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has declared 2023 as International Year of Millets with approval by the Food and Agriculture organisation (FAO) to position India as the ‘Global Hub of Millets’ as well as empower local communities.

At Vivanta Surajkund- NCR, all varieties of millets are sourced from farmers from the foothills of Himalayas. These include the Sorghum Millet, Barnyard Millet, Finger Millet, Foxtail Millet, Kodo Millet, Little Millet, and Pearl Millet.

The exquisitely curated menu for the Surajkund Mela features flavours such as Greek Sorghum & Vegetable Bowl, Mixed Millet Bhel Puri, Pulled Chicken & Millet Wrap, Foxtail Crested Fillet of Sole, Wok Tossed Kodo Millet with Bokchoy, and Sorghum & Walnut Brownie. This ‘Millet Way of Life’ can also be experienced at the property.

The kiosk is rooted in the values of Paathya, the path that unites all of IHCL endeavours to walk a collaborative path with all stakeholders to shape a future of sustainable development and social responsibility. The kiosk is plastic free and sustainable processes have been followed in the bottling plant as well. To promote local talent, local potters and women from the vicinity of the Mela will be present at the stall and the property thereafter.

Suju Krishnan, General Manager – Vivanta Surajkund-NCR said, “We are thrilled to be a part of the Surajkund Craft Mela 2023. The annual festival, which is the largest crafts fair in the world, is a melting pot of culture and we are grateful to be a part of the festivities organised by Haryana Tourism Authorities. This year’s kiosk by Vivanta Surajkund-NCR is all about two things – The goodness of Millets and The Sustainable Way of Paathya. Look forward to welcoming the delegates for Surajkund International fair 2023.

Prashant Banerjee, Sous Chef, Vivanta Surajkund-NCR said, “Millet has been integral to the cultural history of India. While developing the menu for the International Year of Millets, we were inspired by the ‘Nostalgic Millet Food Journey’. We wanted to honour the traditional millet by adding the Vivanta touch of innovation and contemporariness. Our meticulously crafted menu for the event, which will also be available at our property, is designed to experiment with the superfood to enthral the five senses, radicalize immunity and rejoice in the ‘Millet Way of Life’.”
