Rahul Mishra Closes Hyundai India Couture Week 2026 with DEVI, Bringing Paris Haute Couture Home

The final evening of Hyundai India Couture Week 2026 belonged to Rahul Mishra.

Fresh from unveiling DEVI at Paris Haute Couture Week, the designer returned to India with a presentation that reimagined how couture can be experienced. Presented in association with Nexxus New York, the evening moved beyond the conventions of a traditional runway, transforming the venue into an immersive setting where couture, live performance, music, and craftsmanship unfolded as one cohesive experience.

Before the presentation opened, members of the media were invited to preview the collection up close. Seeing the garments at arm’s length revealed a level of craftsmanship that photographs alone could never capture. Every embroidered surface, sculptural detail, and hand-finished embellishment reflected the extraordinary precision of the atelier and the countless hours invested in each creation.

Inside the venue, models were positioned throughout the space rather than walking a conventional runway. Guests moved freely through the installation, discovering every look from different perspectives. The format encouraged a closer appreciation of embroidery, texture, construction, and silhouette, allowing the craftsmanship to take center stage.

Inspired by the timeless beauty of ancient Indian sculpture, DEVI explores the relationship between heritage and contemporary couture. Rahul Mishra drew from temple architecture, centuries-old craftsmanship, and India’s artistic traditions, translating those influences into sculptural silhouettes, fluid drapery, and intricately layered embroidery. His signature ektaarka technique created remarkable depth across every surface, giving the garments an almost sculptural presence while preserving their softness and movement.

The presentation continued with Rahul Mishra’s Festive Couture collection, where floral embroidery, intricate zardozi, hand-painted textiles, and sculptural silhouettes offered a contemporary perspective on bridal and occasion dressing. Select looks were complemented by high jewelry created in collaboration with Tanishq Natural Diamonds, bringing together two houses celebrated for their commitment to exceptional Indian craftsmanship.

The finale introduced one of the evening’s most memorable moments.

Accompanied by live classical music and dance, Femina Miss India Earth 2013 and actor Sobhita Dhulipala appeared in a sculptural ivory-and-champagne ensemble inspired by India’s architectural heritage. A temple-inspired mesh corset formed the foundation of the look, while layered necklace embroidery referenced the intricate carvings of the Ajanta Caves. A crystal-embellished belt defined the silhouette, balanced by fluid ivory satin drapes that softened its architectural lines.

Rather than arriving fully dressed, Sobhita’s look evolved before the audience through a live shringar ceremony. Attendants carefully draped a champagne-toned overskirt embroidered with crystals and sequins around her, allowing guests to witness the artistry behind the final look. The ceremony celebrated adornment as an integral part of Indian cultural tradition, giving equal importance to the ritual and the finished ensemble.

The look was completed with a Magnolia-inspired couture hair accessory developed by Rahul Mishra in collaboration with Nexxus New York. Drawing inspiration from the Magnolia flower, the handcrafted floral creation echoed the collection’s botanical references while extending its design language beyond the garments themselves. With the final details in place, Sobhita’s closing walk provided an elegant conclusion to the presentation.

The Magnolia motif appeared throughout both DEVI and the Festive Couture collection, creating a visual connection between the two chapters of the evening. Developed with internationally acclaimed hair artist Flavien Heldt, the couture hair direction reflected the same precision, texture, and craftsmanship evident throughout the collection.

Bringing DEVI back to India followed another important international milestone for Rahul Mishra. After its Paris presentation, the collection placed him among the five most impactful Haute Couture houses of the Fall/Winter 2026–27 season, generating $12.3 million in Media Impact Value® and placing his work alongside Dior, Chanel, Schiaparelli, and Balenciaga—another significant achievement for Indian couture on the global luxury stage.

Reflecting on the collection, Rahul Mishra shared that DEVI began with an ancient sculpture and a question that stayed with him: What gives stone the appearance of life? Rather than removing material, his atelier explored the answer through embroidery, building each surface layer by layer until thread created the illusion of sculpted form. He also acknowledged the artisans and young designers whose skill and dedication brought that vision to life.

As the presentation concluded, DEVI stood as a compelling expression of India’s artistic heritage through the language of contemporary couture. By bringing the collection home after its acclaimed Paris debut, Rahul Mishra closed Hyundai India Couture Week 2026 with a presentation that celebrated craftsmanship, innovation, and the enduring global appeal of Indian couture.
