Delhi–Toronto Gets a Premium Makeover
Faster Flights Ahead
Air India is set to transform travel between India and Canada with the introduction of its brand-new Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner on the Delhi–Toronto route from 1 August 2026. The biggest change? Passengers will no longer need to endure the en route fuel stop in Vienna, as the airline prepares to operate the service non-stop, subject to airspace availability.
The upgrade cuts almost three hours off the journey, reducing the Delhi-to-Toronto travel time from around 20 hours to approximately 17 hours. The return flight from Toronto to Delhi will continue to operate non-stop, with a journey time of up to 16 hours.
For travellers, it means less time in transit and a smoother, more seamless long-haul experience.
Daily Service Returns
Alongside the aircraft upgrade, Air India will restore the route to daily operations, increasing from the current five weekly flights.
The airline had temporarily reduced frequencies between June and July 2026 due to soaring fuel costs and geopolitical factors that impacted long-haul operations. With conditions improving, the airline is now reinstating daily connectivity while introducing one of the newest aircraft in its growing fleet.
Campbell Wilson, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Air India, said Toronto remains one of the airline’s most significant international destinations, serving one of the world’s largest Indian diaspora communities. He added that deploying the latest Boeing 787-9 reflects Air India’s ongoing transformation into a world-class global carrier while expanding its newest premium products across North America.
Elevated Cabin Experience
The new Boeing 787-9 introduces Air India’s latest cabin interiors to Canada for the very first time, offering a completely refreshed onboard experience across all three classes.
The aircraft features:
- 30 Business Class suites
- 28 Premium Economy seats
- 238 Economy seats
A standout addition is Premium Economy, now available for the first time on the Delhi–Toronto route. Designed for ultra-long-haul comfort, the cabin offers wider seating, greater legroom and enhanced personal space, creating an appealing middle ground between Business and Economy.
Business Class travellers can expect private suites with direct aisle access, fully flat 79-inch beds, wireless charging, generous storage and large 17-inch 4K entertainment screens, delivering a premium experience designed for long-haul comfort.
Premium Economy offers a spacious 2-3-2 seating layout with a 38-inch seat pitch, adjustable leg and calf rests, reclining seats and 13.3-inch 4K touchscreens.
Meanwhile, Economy Class receives ergonomically designed seats, upgraded personal entertainment with 11.6-inch 4K displays and improved device holders to make long journeys more comfortable.
Luxury Meets Technology
The Dreamliner also introduces Air India’s newest generation of inflight entertainment and onboard amenities.
Passengers across every cabin will have access to more than 3,000 hours of entertainment through the Thales AVANT Up system, complete with Bluetooth audio connectivity, USB-A and USB-C charging ports, AC power outlets and high-definition touchscreens.
Cabin interiors have been enhanced with mood lighting inspired by India’s wellness traditions, while refreshed dining menus showcase both Indian and international cuisine. The experience is further elevated with upgraded tableware, plush bedding and redesigned amenity kits, reinforcing Air India’s ambition to deliver a more refined and consistent premium journey.

The launch of the non-stop Delhi–Toronto service represents more than a shorter journey—it reflects Air India’s broader transformation as it modernises its fleet and upgrades the passenger experience across its international network.
