AMIT AGGARWAL

AM.IT | Grand Finale, presented by Lakmé 9to5

Amit Aggarwal brought Lakmé Fashion Week x FDCI to a close with AM.IT, his revived prêt label that translates the experimentation, material innovation, and design research of his couture into a more immediate, wearable wardrobe. Rooted in the contrasts of urban India, where concrete meets craft and everyday utility intersects with ornament, the collection explored how familiar dressing codes could be reimagined through color, proportion, texture, and form.

There was a sense of movement in the way the silhouettes evolved, shifting between structure and ease, precision and fluidity. Pinstriped shirting, relaxed tailoring, and lustrous surfaces lent a contemporary edge to wardrobe staples, while unexpected material combinations introduced a more experimental dimension. Rather than drawing a rigid line between workwear and evening dressing, Aggarwal approached the two as continuations of the same wardrobe, where a change in styling, texture, or attitude could transform a look without compromising the wearer’s individuality.

At its heart, AM.IT proposed a more fluid idea of modern dressing: one in which the discipline of tailoring meets the freedom of self-expression, and couture sensibilities find their way into clothes designed for everyday life.

SHOWSTOPPER

Aneet Padda closed the show in an ultraviolet, color-shifting polymer bodice, paired with an oversized pinstriped shirt and high-shine, wide-leg satin pants. The look brought together three distinct visual languages: the futuristic sheen of the polymer, the familiarity of classic shirting, and the fluid glamour of satin. Its appeal lay in this deliberate contrast, with sharp lines and exaggerated proportions offset by the reflective surfaces and movement of the pants. It was a fitting finale for a collection that treated everyday dressing as an opportunity for experimentation rather than convention.

Mood: Every hour after five, from workday structure to evening expression

Fabric: Color-shifting polymer, pinstriped shirting, high-shine satin

Key Details: Sculptural forms, relaxed tailoring, expressive color, tactile contrasts, and references to the textures and visual language of urban India

What Caught Our Eye

01. Desk to Dinner: The collection blurred the boundaries between workday dressing and evening glamour. Familiar wardrobe staples took on a new character through changes in proportion, surface, and styling, reflecting Lakmé 9to5’s “5PM Glam Reset” philosophy.

02. Tailoring That Lets Go: Structured silhouettes and classic shirting were loosened through oversized proportions and fluid pairings. The result was tailoring that retained its precision without feeling restrictive, allowing room for movement and individual expression.

03. The City as Muse: The contrasts of urban India informed the collection’s visual language. Hard and soft, understated and reflective, familiar and futuristic came together in unexpected combinations, echoing the layered textures of the city itself.

04. Couture Thinking, Prêt Ease: Aggarwal brought his interest in material innovation and sculptural construction into a more accessible wardrobe. The experimentation was still present, but it found expression in pieces conceived for a contemporary lifestyle, making design-led dressing feel less removed from everyday life.
