Ritu Kumar and Kareena Kapoor Khan Celebrate the New Language of Indian Couture

There is something wonderfully familiar about old Indian cinema: the softness of black-and-white frames, the elegance of a beautifully cut silhouette, the romance of clothes that seemed to carry a story of their own. It is this world that Kareena Kapoor Khan steps into for the latest couture campaign, bringing her own contemporary sensibility to a collection deeply rooted in Indian craft.

Rather than simply looking back, the collection takes the language of vintage cinema and gives it a new rhythm. Silhouettes reminiscent of another era are pared back and reimagined for today, while textiles from the house archives have been revisited with a lighter, more modern hand. The effect is not nostalgic for nostalgia’s sake. It feels personal, relevant and remarkably alive. That sense of continuity runs through the collection.

Jamawar weaves, Chintz florals, Farrukhabad block prints and regional embroidery traditions come together in pieces that celebrate the richness of Indian craftsmanship without making it feel distant or overly formal. These are techniques with history, but here they are allowed to breathe, evolve and belong to the present. And perhaps that is where Kareena fits so naturally into the story. Her style has always had an ease to it — an ability to move between old-world glamour and modern confidence without appearing to try too hard. Against the richness of these textiles and embroideries, that quality becomes part of the collection’s character.

There is history between the actor and Ritu Kumar, too. Most memorably, the house was involved in the restoration of the iconic Pataudi heirloom worn by Kareena for her wedding. Years later, seeing her return to the house in this very different context feels less like a new collaboration and more like another chapter in an ongoing relationship.

“For us, this collaboration is about continuity as much as it is about a new beginning,” says Amrish Kumar, CEO, Managing Director & Creative Director. “The brand has shared a memorable association with Kareena, most notably through the restoration of the iconic Pataudi heirloom for her wedding. To now have her represent this collection feels like a natural progression of that relationship.”That idea of continuity is particularly relevant to Indian fashion today. Heritage is no longer necessarily about recreating the past exactly as it was. Increasingly, it is about knowing what is worth carrying forward — a weave, a print, a technique, a memory — and finding a way to make it feel at home in the present.

This collection does just that. It looks back, certainly, but it does not linger there. Instead, it finds something new in the familiar, bringing the richness of Indian couture into a more contemporary conversation. With Kareena Kapoor Khan at the centre of it, the result feels less like a campaign about heritage and more like a reminder that the most enduring forms of luxury are often the ones that come with a story.
