The fact that summer is here is unmistakable, and can be seen – and felt – with the scorching heat and rising temperatures. This not only calls for a change in your attire –most people would have dug out their summer wear from the corners of their wardrobes, but also a change in your beauty routine. So, here is a quick summary of summer skin care practices that are sure to keep the skin looking lovely, despite the blazing sun.
1. Gentle cleansing:
· Cleaning the face with a gentle face wash is an essential part of the skin care routine.
· Use a face spray to rejuvenate the skin if it becomes oily over the course of the day.
· At the end of the day, use a gel cleanser to unclog the pores, eliminate excess sebum, and soothe and moisturise the skin.
2. Toners & Mists:
· Toners and mists – despite not being very popular owing to the presence of alcohol in their components,
effectively cleanse your pores and keep the skin hydrated. These products work swiftly, and can be used in conjunction with a healthy, moisturising skincare programme.
3. Don’t forget to moisturize:
· The fact that its summer does not do away with the need to moisturize.
· For all skin types, hydration is essential.
· For long-lasting hydration and a matte look, use a lightweight water-based or gel-based moisturiser for oily skin.
· If you do not moisturise your skin, the face’s oil glands receive the message that your skin is dehydrated, and go on to produce more sebum.
4. Don’t forget the sunscreen:
· Even if you are indoors, the use of an appropriate sunscreen is one of the most essential skincare procedures, as ultraviolet (UV) rays can pierce through the windows and harm the skin.
· Those with oily skin should invest in an oil-free, dry-touch sunscreen that shields them from the sun’s harmful rays, while absorbing excess oil.
· Use sunscreens with an SPF (Sun Protection Factor) of at least thirty.
5. Makeup should be minimal:
· If possible, avoid wearing makeup in the summer months, or use it sparingly. Being makeup-free can also be a trend!
· At the very least, skip the foundation to allow your skin to breathe.
· Remember that it is preferable to be makeup-free than have it running all over your face! This is not only unsightly, but also clogs your pores, and can lead to acne.
Please remember to use an antifungal powder to protect your skin from a yeast infection in the summer months.
While each skin type comes with its own set of requirements, the common factor for all is sun protection and moisturization. Whatever be your skin type, remember it is important to change your skincare routine with the change in seasons.
