Manu Parekh “Crossover of Cultures” Premiere

The premiere of Manu Parekh: Crossover of Cultures, a documentary conceptualized and directed by Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya,was held at Bikaner House on September 15, 2023. The event was a celebration of the life and artistry of the renowned Indian artist Manu Parekh, with a touching tribute to the late Soumitra Chatterjee.

The evening began with a welcome speech by Prashant Tulsyan, the producer of the documentary, who expressed his gratitude to the audience and the entire team for their dedication and hard work in bringing this project to life.

Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya, the director of the documentary, took the stage and shared his insights into the making of Manu Parekh: Crossover of Cultures. He spoke passionately about the journey of crafting this captivating exploration of Manu Parekh’s life and creative spirit, emphasizing the importance of understanding an artist’s life to truly appreciate their work.

During his speech, Jyotirmoy Bhattacharya also unveiled a special book dedicated to the documentary, providing an in-depth look at the behind-the-scenes process and the artistic evolution of Manu Parekh.

Following the speeches, the highly anticipated documentary was screened to a captivated audience. The film took viewers on a  journey through Ahmedabad, Mumbai, Kolkata, and Delhi, showcasing Manu Parekh’s indomitable spirit and the challenges he overcame to establish himself as a prolific and influential artist. The film also offered valuable insights into the thought processes behind each of his masterpieces, highlighting his profound exploration of the aesthetics of Indian and world art.

In a touching tribute to the late Soumitra Chatterjee, a video was played, commemorating his invaluable contributions to the project and his deep bond with Manu Parekh.

Manu Parekh, the celebrated artist himself, expressed his gratitude and excitement about the documentary, which allowed him to revisit his life’s journey, including his profound connection with Kolkata and the influence of luminaries like Soumitra Chatterjee and Satyajit Ray.
