Harjinder Kaur Talwar encourage women empowerment at India GCC Business Conference

India and GCC countries share a special relationship, both in terms of history and breadth of sectors in which we cooperate. The importance of the region is highlighted by the fact that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited almost all GCC countries; the country’s top leadership remains in constant touch with the top leadership of the GCC countries. On the business front, India and GCC nations enjoy a robust relationship with the current trade between India and the GCC countries touching almost $90 billion. The Gulf region also hosts two of the top-five trading partners for India, and GCC accounts for about 34% of our oil imports.

In this regard, the India GCC business conference was organised on the sidelines of the EXPO 2020 Dubai. The conference aimed to attract investments from GCC countries into India and explore business partnerships between women entrepreneurs from India and GCC, among other interest areas.
On this occasion, Harjinder Kaur Talwar, whose company Comvision has designed and is executing one of the prestigious transport solutions in the Gulf region: King Fahd Causeway between Saudi Arabia and Bahrain, encouraged women entrepreneurs to prepare harder, have all the answers, and show no vulnerabilities. Comvision’s transport solution is deeply integrated with artificial intelligence-based vehicle classification and also multiple methods of payments.

In her address, Ms Talwar encouraged the women from GCC countries to come forward and make their mark in business. Citing her example, she said that her company has anchored a Made-in-India product that is robust, best in its class, and yet very cost-effective. “I am proud as an Indian woman who has achieved success in a domain which is not considered to be women-centric,” she said.

She added that women should “clearly know what they want, build relationships, connect with thought leaders, be prepared to venture out of their comfort zones, be ruthless, be ambitious and be the best person for the job they are aiming for”.

The conference was attended by leading lights from the business sector from India and GCC countries that included Hind Al You, Director of Investments, UAE; Nasser Alaqil, VP Strategic partnerships and government affairs, National Companies Promotion Programme, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia; Bader Ali, Regional Director, MENA & Asia investments organisation, Bahrain EDB and Dr Aman Puri, Counsel-General of India, Dubai, who also addressed the gathering, among others.

Frequently asked questions answered by the Beauty Icon

Can we apply face packs daily? I apply besan and curd daily.

Yes, face packs may be applied daily, but they should be used according to skin type. Fruit packs may be applied daily. If the skin is very oily, a multani mitti pack may be applied daily to reduce oil. Otherwise, apply a pack twice a week. Besan suits oily skin more. If you have normal to oily skin, apply the besan and curd pack daily. Add a pinch of turmeric.

My hair fall has increased a lot, especially after working out in the gym.

The sweat and oil secretions increase during physical activity and this can lead to hair loss. Rinse the hair well after working out. Use less shampoo and rinse well. Hair loss can occur due to oily scalp, dandruff, nutritional deficiencies, stress, etc. Apply herbal hair tonic daily on the scalp. Apply olive oil once a week the night before shampoo. Avoid head massage. Have a small bowl of sprouts daily. Ask your doctor to prescribe Vitamins C and B-Complex.

I want curly hair. How can I do it at home?

Nowadays you get curling irons, but hair setting rollers can help to curl the hair. Use large rollers for big curls. Plastic or wire mesh rollers are available. The hair should be clean and damp before setting. For basic roller setting, use 12 rollers in four sections, i.e. the top of the head, back and sides. Roll the three rollers on the top of the head and back towards the neck. On each side, roll towards the face. Divide the hair into sections, comb and wind the hair on the rollers. Leave the rollers on till the hair is dry, or use a hair dryer.

What do you mean by toning? How to tone the skin?

A5. Toning is part of routine skin care. It helps to refresh the skin and close the pores. It improves blood circulation to the skin surface and adds a glow. After cleansing the skin, use a cotton wool pad, soaked in rose water, to wipe and pat the skin. Stroke skin gently, using outward and upward movement on the cheeks. End at the temples and apply gentle pressure at the temples. On the forehead, start from the centre and go outwards on each side, ending at temples. For the chin, use circular movements.

‘Runway Reels’, with a focus on diversity

Vogue India and Instagram have joined hands for a one-of-a-kind partnership where Vogue will spearhead a model hunt, titled Runway Reels, with diversity as its focus. After inviting entries from across the country via Vogue India’s Instagram account, five models picked from diverse backgrounds will win the opportunity to participate in a fashion showcase featuring seven iconic Indian designers: Tarun TahilianiAnamika KhannaShantanu & NikhilGaurav GuptaRahul MishraShivan & Narresh, and Dhruv Kapoor. The shows, running from November to January 2022, will all be styled by Vogue and, in-a-first, be published exclusively as reels on Vogue India’s Instagram account. During the course of the show, Vogue India will also bolster its presence on Reels by releasing a wide variety of fashion, beauty and lifestyle content in the form of reels.

To participate, contestants have to post an Instagram Reel (publicly) showcasing their best runway walk, and use #RunwayReels in their post, tagging Vogue India. The prime focus of this talent hunt is to celebrate diversity in the world of fashion. As India’s foremost authority on all things fashion, Vogue aims to constantly push the boundaries when it comes to matters of diversity and inclusion.  Vogue has taken several initiatives to this effect: casting models of different ages, sizes, sexual orientations and ethnicities for the editorial shoots; featuring under-represented communities on the cover page, and many more. With this model hunt, the endeavour is to show our audience that one needn’t look a certain way to be a model. And there couldn’t be a better way to introduce these models to the world than by styling them in couture created by some of our top homegrown designers – all to play out in a fresh, never-done-before format of Reels.

Speaking about the campaign, Jabir Merchant Chief Digital Officer – Sales, Conde Nast India says, “At CNX – a full service digital agency and creative studio, part of Condé Nast, we believe in the power of engaging content and brilliant storytelling, backed by audience data. It’s a privilege for us to partner with a brand like Instagram. At Condé Nast, diversity is at the heart of what we do, so it is an honour to collaborate with Instagram on a campaign that puts the spotlight on diversity in fashion. It’s an exciting time to be using the mighty force of social media to champion change, and we look forward to many such collaborations in the future.”

Paras Sharma, Director, Media Partnerships, Facebook India, said, “Reels is a growing global stage on Instagram, and in India, young people across the country are showcasing their unique talents on it. Now with ‘Runway Reels’, there is an opportunity for creators to be in the spotlight by showcasing their creativity and talent in fashion, and leading Indian designers will also launch their collections on Reels taking it to all parts of the country. We’re glad to partner with Conde Nast for this unique program, especially as they look to discover talent in an equitable way.”
