1.      How to remove and prevent blackheads on the face?

Blackheads occur on oily skin or oily areas of the skin. After washing the face in the morning, wipe the blackhead prone areas with an astringent lotion, using cotton wool. In the morning after washing the face, make a paste of baking soda (bicarbonate of soda) and water. Apply the paste on the areas with blackheads daily and wash it off after 5 minutes. Use a facial scrub three times a week on the blackhead prone areas. You can either buy a facial scrub or you can mix rice powder with rose water and use as a facial scrub. Apply on the areas with blackheads and rub gently on the skin using small circular movements. Leave on for 5 minutes and then wash off with water. Or, you can mix egg white with oats and apply on the areas with blackheads twice a week. Wash it off when it is dry. You can go for a regular clean-up at a beauty salon.

2.      Can you suggest ways to improve my elbow skin? It is dark and uneven with lots of bumps.

Take lemon halves and rub them daily on the elbows. Wash it off and then apply sesame seed (til) oil and massage it into the skin. Make a paste of gram flour (besan), curd, lemon juice and a little turmeric (haldi). Apply the paste on elbows at least three times a week. Wash it off after half an hour. You can also apply a cream containing lemon and turmeric daily. If there are eruptions, apply sandalwood paste. If there are only blackheads, use a scrub.

3.      I am only 12 years old. Please tell me natural remedies for pimples.

Wash your face twice a day, morning and night with a medicated soap. Then wipe with an astringent lotion, using cotton wool. Mix a little rose water with sandalwood paste and apply on the face. Wash off after 15 minutes. Sandalwood paste can also be applied on pimples. Mix cinnamon (dalchini) powder with a little lemon juice and a few drops of honey into a sticky paste. Apply only on the pimples daily and leave it on for one or two hours. Mix multani mitti with rose water into a paste and apply on the face two or three times a week. Wash it off when it dries. Avoid creams and moisturizers. Use only oil-free products.

Identifying emotional & behavioral reactions: It’s not just adults who are stressed, kids are, too

By KanchanRai, Mental & Emotional Wellbeing Coach, Founder – Let Us Talk

Everyone at some point of time in their lives tends to experience anxiety, a mechanism developed by the body to handle and acclimatize to perplexing situations. Children and teens usually suffer from stress much more than adults do, as they constantly get exposed to new and puzzling environments. While little amounts of stress can be beneficial, experiencing undesirable pressure can cause long-standing psychological and physical impairment in children.

As per various studies conducted on child anxiety it has been researched that about 7.4% of children under the age group of 3-17 years have been diagnosed with a behavior problem. For children dealing with behavior issues, more than 1 in 3 tend to suffer from anxiety (36.6%) and about 1 in 5 face depressions (20.3%). Since kids fail to express their emotions well, parents sometimes remain ignorant that the child is undergoing stress. Hence identifying anxiety in kids is the primary step towards eliminating it.

Identifying physical, emotional & behavioral signs of childhood anxiety:

1.      Physical Symptoms:

Violent overreactions to mild problems: If your child has been showing an increase in aggressive behavior, it is a clear indication that he or she is stressed. Physical or verbal aggression should be immediately addressed and dealt with.

Constant sleep problems: Kids who have a lot running in their minds may experience problems in sleeping due to insomnia, bedwetting, and nightmares. Bedwetting is a common sign of your child being anxious. Waking up multiple times at night due to a frightening nightmare can also be signs that all is not well with the child.

2.      Emotional or Behavioral Symptoms:

Unable to concentrate on academics: Refusal to attend school is one of the main causes of anxiety for kids if the child’s stressor is linked to school. As anxiety tends to build, it scrambles with the brain, making it difficult for the child to focus on studies even while at home.

Inability to relax: The child may behave restless, irritable, and nervous or may be unwilling to let parents out of sight.

Loss of Appetite: Feeling of stress can cause headaches and abdominal pain in kids. This can lead to refusal to eat food and a visible change in the child’s eating patterns. Some might tend to overeat while others might experience a loss of appetite as compared to their daily meal portions.

Tips to ease the stress indicators:

1.      Dealing with your child’s irritability with patience: The extended lockdown phase may trigger stress in children. Staying away from school and being separated from their friends may cause emotional discomfort leading to developmental problems. Particularly toddlers may unveil behavioral changes due to feeling unsafe because they are put in a new and uncertain routine. Kids might unconsciously display regression in their behavior as a coping skill and a desire to return to the phase where they felt secured. Parents must deal with the situation with utmost patience. Take the quarantine period as an opportunity and nurture stronger bonds with your children which will enable them to confide to you in case they have been undergoing bouts of stress.

2.      Keep a note of how your child or teen has been interacting with others: In many cases the child may act normal at home, but may exhibit a changed behavior in other settings. Hence, parents must communicate with other guardians and school teachers to understand the child or teen’s behavior patterns at school.

3.      Act positively: Children may sometimes express feelings of trauma by saying undesirable things about themselves or others. They may use words like no one likes me, or I am irresponsible. Parents must guide the child in a positive direction, thus eliminating any negative feelings from their minds.

4.      Seek help: Instead of tacking such overwhelming situations on your own, it is advisable to seek expert help. The mental health professional can help identify problems and will develop operative strategies to resolve feelings of anxiety.

Kids thrive in a structured environment where they feel secure and loved. The greatest thing parents can do to lessen the stress for your child is to watch their behavior. A watchful observation will help you in identifying the cause of their stress.

Satya Paul launched their new concept store in DLF Promenade, Vasant Kunj under the leadership of Creative Director – Rajesh Pratap Singh. Rajesh has evolved the brand’s vision to create modern & contemporary collections that resonate with the Satya Paul brand ethos.

Since its inception 35 years ago, Satya Paul has now ventured into contemporary design aesthetics. While the brand has illustriously dominated the world of sarees, it is now extending its focus towards a more versatile & ready-to-wear series of apparel.

On this teachers day, entrepreneurs share the guru mantra that shaped their career

Every entrepreneur wants to create a company that is successful and beloved by consumers in the long term. The world’s most successful entrepreneurs are often fiercely independent and self-reliant; however, entrepreneurship is a bumpy voyage, not everyone can sail through seamlessly without a true guide. Connecting with mentors, acknowledging the advice that can shape their careers and implementing them in their entrepreneurial journey can change the whole game.

On this teacher’s day, here are the guru mantras of successful entrepreneurs that have stuck with them and helped them in their entrepreneurial journey:

Vinay Kothari, Founder of Go Desi, homegrown packaged food brand inspired by Indian flavours shares “What I learnt from my teachers or gurus (some of whom I have known personally, others only through books, podcasts) is perseverance. How keeping at it is one of the single most important factors towards success in whatever you are passionate about. This is one thing that I have figured as a key requisite to success in the entrepreneurial journey as well”

Mr. Sandeep Wirkhare, MD & CEO, ISFC (Indian School Finance Company) says, “There have been 2 gurus in my life whose lessons have been significant in my entrepreneurial journey. First, my uncle (Mr Bonde) from whom I learned nothing is impossible and always aim to make yourself redundant by creating efficient team members. Second, my chemistry teacher in graduation (Mr V P Singh) from whom I learned to continuously innovate, unlearn the irrelevant and be passionate in whatever we do.”

Roma Priya, Founder, Burgeon Law shares, “One of the most important ways that an entrepreneur can stay on track is by staying consistent and organised. Most entrepreneurs have hustled through failures and uncertainty in their journey to reach the stage of success. Success isn’t always about greatness, it is about hard work, consistency and the ability to foresee the future and plan in advance.”

Zahara Kanchwalla is the Co-Founder & CEO of Rite Knowledge Labs shares, â€œIn today’s world, I believe the ability to learn and improve oneself is an ongoing process. And anybody who crosses your path, from a fresher to a demanding customer to a great competitor, everybody teaches you something in this journey. Everything will not be perfect in life and business – continuously adjusting your sail to the winds for good and bad weather is key to your progress.”

FDCI’S DIGITAL EDITION-FINAL DAY- Rahul Mishra

kam-áž”áș–āb

‘Kam’ translates to ‘less’ and ‘khaab’ refers to a ‘nap’. Kamkhab is a collection of garments developed during two lockdowns, through the breaking and rebuilding of hope, resilience and the fluctuating strength of love. Sometimes, a khaat (embroidery frame) would be abandoned for months to remain, and be resumed later by a different person. Much like a garden after the process of seeding—soaking its sun and water. Each sapling takes its own sweet time to produce flowers. And the clothes, emerging out of a different verse of the same poem, each tell a different part of the same story. The film was shot in a century old haveli that was opened after over eight decades of being shut. The collection is showcased with a homecoming tableau featuring a cast of models returning to an old haveli and rediscovering its quaint charm. The garments envisage the love one pours into building their home. Taking months and years to paint their stories and reside amidst them so as to never forget.

Highlights

·        Use of age-old techniques of hand embroidery, Rahul Mishra’s couture is weightless, despite the intricacy of details

·        Crafted from fabrics like Chanderi silk, georgette, silk organza, crĂȘpe and tissue along with Banarasi cutwork and signature embroidery, the lehngas, saris, dresses and menswear bloom with botanical motifs, ranging from multi-coloured flowers to pink flamingos, ruffles and 3D threadwork

·        Crafts are woven into the narrative of love and resilience, and the film also features two artisans—Noorain Alam and Md Akbar—at work
