FDCI presents the Lotus Make-up India Fashion Week, spring-summer 2021, with DLF Emporio/The Chanakya, as the luxury partner

Taking the plunge, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), presents the first-ever phygital, Lotus Make-up India Fashion Week, spring-summer 2021, with DLF Emporio/The Chanakya as the luxury partner. It is scheduled from October 14-18, 2020.

The FDCI, has made a robust blueprint for the future, this includes a studio set up with screens and bespoke lighting, where designers are shooting their fashion films/videos. Alternatively, they can also shoot their own films. These pre-shot films will be streamed across various FDCI digital platforms —— Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and the FDCI website. These will play according to a preset show schedule.

The impressive list of the showcasing designers include Varun Bahl, Tarun Tahiliani, Suneet Varma, Shivan & Narresh, Shantanu & Nikhil, Rohit Gandhi + Rahul Khanna, Rina Dhaka, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Payal Jain, Nitin Bal Chauhan, Namrata Joshipura, Geisha Designs, Dhi, Ashish Soni, Abhishek Gupta among many others.

In keeping with the ethos, an online ‘Designer Showroom’, is being created, a dedicated space, where designers can upload their lookbooks and place orders, with their domestic and international buyers, through virtual meetings.

This year, there are many new additions, observing the success of the online edition of Designer Stockroom, the FDCI will open this B2C platform once again, for participating designers, after fashion week.

“We have 40 established and young designers, who are a part of this phygital showcase. This edition of the LMIFW is going to be eventful, as we have adapted to new technology. We are happy to have Lotus Make Up continue their partnership and welcome DLF Emporio/The Chanakya as our new collaborator, on board,” said FDCI Chairman, Sunil Sethi.

LakméFashion Week (LFW) announces the 30^th batch of its most prestigious talent discovery programs –GenNext. Three winning designers were chosen from the first ever virtual jury selection process that saw participation from over 200 aspiring applicants. The selected designers will be presenting their creations by INIFD at Lakmé Fashion Week’s first ever digital destination to be hosted between 21^st to 25^th October.

Given the physical limitations of submitting one’s designs this season, the applicants had to submit a video montage of their ensembles to complement their presentation. The applicants were shortlisted and presented their collections digitally to an expert jury comprising Anaita Shroff Adajania, Amit Aggarwal, Pernia Qureshi, Tina Tahiliani, GenNext mentor Sabina Chopra along with Ashwath Swaminathan- Head of Innovations, Lakmé and Jaspreet Chandok, Head of Lifestyle Businesses, IMG Reliance.

After being announced winners, the new GenNext designers Dhātu Design Studio by Anmol Sharma, MISHÉ by Bhumika & Minakshi Ahluwalia and THE LOOM ART by Aarushi Kilawat were taken through a series of Masterclasses over 3 days with Sabina Chopra, the Lakmé Fashion Week team as well as industry experts to give an understanding of brand building, business and marketing skills in addition to feedback and advice on their upcoming showcase and collection.

All 3 winning designers are conscious designers and have a sustainable collection. GenNext, for the first time, will be showcasing a fully sustainable collection on day 1 of Lakmé Fashion Week. This season, ‘Sustainable Fashion Day’ is going to be celebrated on both day 1 & 2.

In order to address the uncertain times that the design community is challenged with, Lakmé Fashion Week this season has announced several initiatives to support the GenNext designers that have been introduced in the past as well. LFW will provide free stall space to all GenNext designers in the LFW virtual showroom. These GenNext designers will also get the opportunity to be a part of the schedule through a look book format of showcase without any designer fees. LFW will also support the GenNext designers through promotions on the LFW digital handles for the next 6 months to help them market their brands.

Since its inception, the ‘INIFD presents GenNext’ programme has been famed for identifying new talent, providing young designers with a nurturing platform, and turning them into the new design stars of the industry. This season, unlike any other before, the GenNext program takes on a new avatar and gives the winning designers the chance to showcase their creations in a first of its kind virtual format.

Announcing the latest batch of GenNext designers, Ashwath Swaminathan, Head of Innovations, Lakmé said, “Discovering new talent who will be the future of fashion is one of the key pillars of Lakmé Fashion Week. KVIC Appoints Design and Fashion Icon Sunil Sethi, as Advisor

The Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has appointed Mr Sunil Sethi, a leading personality in the Indian fashion industry, as its advisor. Sethi will advise the Commission on latest design interventions in the readymade garments segment as well as promotion of Khadi in India and abroad.

Mr Sethi’s appointment is for a period of one year. Earlier, renowned fashion designer Ms Ritu Beri served as advisor to KVIC whose term expired recently.

He has over four decades of experience in global merchandising, where he has contributed significantly to the growth of Indian handicrafts, design and the textile industry, through many innovative and successful initiatives. As Chairman of the Fashion Design Council of India, which is represented by 400 designers, he has been working to take Indian fashion industry global.

“Sustainable growth of Khadi in the fashion industry, both locally and internationally, is the key idea behind the appointment. KVIC has already marked its advent on the global platform and from here on we must capitalize on every opportunity. Khadi artisans are capable of producing the finest quality and the most unique fabric in the world and with the newest design innovations, Khadi can be a favourite of a vast global consumer segment,” KVIC Chairman, Mr Vinai Kumar Saxena said.

Incidentally, this is also aligned with the clarion call of the Hon’ble Prime Minister – Local to Global and Vocal for Local – in the context of Indian manufacturing sector. The development assumes greater significance in wake of the growing buzz around Indian handcrafted products and the consumers increasingly becoming fashion-oriented.

Before being appointed Advisor to the KVIC, Sethi has discharged advisory roles in various government bodies like the HHEC, National Crafts Museum and Hastkala Academy, Ministry of Textile, Ministry of Tourism and Ministry of Culture. He has also served as Member, Board of Governors, at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).

About the Project

Spread across a sprawling 3400 square feet, this Bangalore home is a celebration of a tangible humbleness amalgamated with a dash of modernity. For entrepreneur cum designer Abhishek Chadha, the aspiration was for a space that was deeply embedded in the mid-century style culture. The designer incorporated eclectic design with a fusion of upscale & contemporary interiors that blends well into the theme. Team ‘The KariGhars’ perfects the narrative of a modern-day abode that is warm, eclectic & dramatic. The team exceptionally marries texture, materials & different finishes for a style that is distinct yet inviting. The client envisioned a space that was a perfect mix of contemporary sophistication along with being quiet, idyllic & in many ways a luxurious retreat.

An Interesting Play of Space.

As one enters this 4 BHK house, the foyer serves as an interesting play of space. A unique seating arrangement greets the visitors that also accommodates a provision for storage. Along with the seating arrangement is a console table which is the hardest-working & utilitarian piece in the furniture catalog. This console blends well with its surroundings & is capable of multiple functions throughout the space. Moving on, the living room is done up in an eclectic decor that transcribes harmony and the coming together of disparate styles, juxtaposing textures, and contrasting colors. A special focus has been laid on creating a cohesive, beautifully realized room that wouldn’t be out of place in a home since this genre of design style takes verve and a great fascination to the eye. Remembering Tagore

A Tribute by Simantinee Roy

Singer and Performer Simantinee Roy pays tribute to Rabindranath Tagore through her version of Rabindra Sangeet ‘Amaro Porano Jaha Chaye’, a Bengali song featuring her released by Times Music Bangla.

Simantinee was always inclined towards music and her passion got wings when she performed for the very first time at All India Radio as a child artist and was recognised for her talent. This motivated her to curate music that was close to her heart and culture. While the music video was shot at her home, the overall setup showcases her love for true heritage in a black saree, singing. Written and composed by Rabindranath Tagore, “Amaro Porano Jaha Chaye” is a melancholic love song, music is re arranged by Sayan Ganguly.

Sharing about the song, Simantinee says, “Being a Bengali Rabindra Sangeet is inbuilt in our DNA. My journey as an artist started with my Tagore based song performances and later, I took formal training with my Guru ji Late Shri Samir Das at Surjharna, Tripura”.

Macao Light Festival 2020

Celebration of Culture & History through Light Artistry

Organized by Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) and co-organized by Municipal Affairs Bureau, Cultural Affairs Bureau and Sports Bureau, Macao Light Festival 2020 will brighten up the city with colorful lights and carnival elements every night between 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. from 26 September to 31 October 2020. The Light Mapping will successively come into the spotlight with all necessary precautionary measures such as temperature check, mandatory wearing of face mask, proper sanitization, etc. and will be covering 15 locations across four districts.

Highlights

· Held for the 6consecutive years, this year’s Macao Light Festival will showcase the rich culture and urban charm of Macao, while demonstrating the city is a safe place to visit during the COVID-19 pandemic.

· The festival will also highlight the beauty of the World Heritage architecture Macao possesses, the characteristics that distinguish the various communities that make up the city, and manifestations of the status of Macao as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy.

· There will be the projection mapping shows, with projections at heritage buildings in Tap Seac Square featuring as one of the main spots this year. The shows will also “paint” once again the façades of the Macau Yat Yuen Canidrome, formerly a dog racing track; and the Cozinha Pinocchio restaurant at Largo dos Bombeiros in Taipa Village, along with two other new sites on this edition, namely China Products Company building in Hong Kung Temple Square and the Wong Ieng Kuan Library in Areia Preta Urban Park.

· In addition to video mapping shows, different spots along with the Nam Van Lake Nautical Centre, Anim’Arte NAM VAN, the Leisure Area at Rua do General Ivens Ferraz in Fai Chi Kei, Taipa Village, and several other locations in the different parishes of the city are among the 12 sites forming the network of routes for this year’s festival, featuring light installations and interactive games. I have oily skin. Please suggest sunscreen to brighten my skin. Also, can I wear make-up, or will it cause acne?

Apply sunscreen gel or oil-free one. After cleansing, apply astringent lotion using cotton wool. Mix multani mitti with rose water and lemon juice into a paste and apply on the face. Wash it off when it is dry. It reduces oiliness and will also brighten the skin. For make-up, first apply astringent lotion. Then, apply compact powder. Look for a beige or biscuit colour tone. Avoid pink.

I have had a skin problem for the last 10 years. After applying cream, my skin got red pimples, the pores got blocked. Now I have lots of black spots. Please help.

You seem to have had an acne condition. Avoid applying creams and moisturiser on oily and acne prone skin. If you do not have any pimples and acne now, use a facial scrub two or three times a week. You can mix rice powder with a little curd and pinch of turmeric. Apply on the face and rub gently on the skin, especially on the black spots. Wash off with plenty of water. Mix multani mitti with lemon juice and rose water into a paste. Apply on the entire face two or three times a week, avoiding the lips and area around the eyes. Wash it off when it dries. If there is any dryness, mix one teaspoon pure glycerin with 100 ml rose water. Keep in the fridge in an airtight bottle. Apply a little to relieve dryness.

Suggest some home remedies to get rid of body odour.

Use colognes, as they are lighter and constitute mainly water. Make a paste of baking soda and water and apply under the arms. You can also add lemon juice to this paste. Leave on for ten minutes and wash off with water. Or, mix a little baking soda with your talcum powder and apply under the arms, or on the feet. Add 2 drops of Tea Tree Essential Oil to two tablespoons of water or rose water. Apply this under the arms with cotton wool.

Please tell me a natural remedy for dark circles under the eyes.

For dark circles under eyes, daily apply pure almond oil sparingly under eyes and massage lightly, using only the ring finger, for one minute under each eye. Massage in one direction only. Leave on for 15 minutes and wipe off gently with moist cotton wool. Mix cucumber juice and potato juice in equal quantities. Apply under eyes daily. Wash off after 20 minutes. Wash off with water.

5 Days of Sightseeing

Mammoth Lakes is a perfectly situated springboard to the ultimate in sightseeing adventures. A national park, national monument, state parks, an official ghost town and the world’s oldest trees are all within easy reach for amazing day trips.

DAY 1 – YOSEMITE VALLEY

Yosemite is easy to access from Mammoth Lakes, and together they make a great pairing on any outdoor enthusiast’s itinerary. To get there from Mammoth Lakes during summer and fall, take the Tioga Pass State Highway 120 to the eastern gate into Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite Area Regional Transit (YARTS) offers transportation for visitors who would prefer to travel by bus from outlying communities into Yosemite Valley. For a reasonable fare, you can purchase round-trip tickets for the scenic ride into the park. The bus typically runs from June through September when Tioga Pass (Hwy. 120) is open. Weekend service is available in June and September with daily trips to and from Yosemite in July and August.

Begin your trip touring Yosemite National Park, including Yosemite Valley. Channel your inner Ansel Adams with a stop at Tunnel View to capture the quintessential shot of Yosemite. Feel the spray of Bridalveil and Yosemite falls, walk alongside the towering granite of Half Dome to Mirror Lake and marvel at climbers scaling the vertices of El Capitan.

DAY 2 – HIGH COUNTRY

After exploring Yosemite Valley, head toward the east side of the park. Yosemite’s eastern entrance is just 45 minutes from Mammoth Lakes and accessed via Tioga Pass, the highest highway pass in California (open from early summer to late fall and subject to snow conditions). The area is accessible by car or the Yosemite Area Regional Transportation System bus.

Pack a picnic to take with you, as services on the east side of the park are limited. Hike among giant sequoias in the Tuolumne and Merced groves. Then spend time in the spectacular but often-overlooked high country. Choose an easy hike to a carbonated spring or a moderate scramble up a granite dome. Or use the park’s free shuttle to roam from the pristine shores of Tenaya Lake to the craggy outlooks of Olmsted Point.

DAY 3 – REDS MEADOW

Catch the scenic shuttle from Mammoth Adventure Center to Reds Meadow (no private vehicles allowed), where you’ll find Devils Postpile National Monument and the 101-foot Rainbow Falls. The nearly 800-acre Devils Postpile National Monument is situated in Mammoth Lakes’ backyard and preserves a columnar basalt formation formed by flowing lava about 82,000 years ago. As the lava cooled, it contracted and split into symmetrical, vertical columns subsequently smoothed by glacial ice.

Hike along the San Joaquin River to see the unique rock formation. Then, continue on the easy 2-mile hike downstream to Rainbow Falls, named for the colorful rainbows reflected in the mist by the midday sun.

Wrap up your adventure with lunch at the Mule House Café at Reds Meadow Resort before catching the shuttle back to Mammoth Lakes. When you’re back at the Mammoth Adventure Center, take a Scenic Gondola ride to the summit of Mammoth Mountain and admire the views from 11,053 feet.

DAY 4 – AN ANCIENT LAKE & GOLD RUSH HISTORY

Over a million years old and covering nearly 105 square miles, Mono Lake, is situated just north of Mammoth Lakes. The alkaline lake has no outlet, so evaporation is the only way water leaves the lake, making it 2.5 times saltier and 80 times more alkaline than the ocean. The unique biosphere provides food to millions of migrating birds.

Just a few miles north you’ll reach the weathered buildings of Bodie State Historic Park, California’s official ghost town and the largest unrestored ghost town in the West.The park is the site of an old mining town, which produced over $35M in gold and silver from 1877 to 1888. In its heyday, Bodie was a notorious Wild West town of 10,000 residents. Today, 170 original structures still stand in a state of “arrested decay,” including a store where the same items remain from when it was closed for the last time in 1912.

Back in Mammoth Lakes, you can explore additional mining history at the Mammoth Consolidated Gold Mine in the Mammoth Lakes Basin or at the Hayden Cabin Museum on the bank of Mammoth Creek.

DAY 5 – THE WORLD’S OLDEST TREES

Situated high in the remote, tall and scenic White Mountains two hours south of Mammoth Lakes, the 3,500 to 5,000 year-old trees of the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest are some of the oldest living organisms on Earth.

Take Hwy. 395 south to the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. Be sure to pack a lunch, water and snacks, as services along the route are limited.

Your first stop will be Schulman Grove Visitor Center, where you can get more information about the trails in the area. Take the short but scenic, 1-mile Discovery Loop or visit the very oldest trees along the more strenuous, 4.5-mile Methuselah Grove Trail. Then drive to the Patriarch Grove, over 11,000 feet in elevation, to witness the largest living bristlecone tree.
