A collection of kalidar kurtas, khada dupattas, ghararas, izar salwars for women and jama, angrakha and heavy shawls for men in pure and cotton silks, mashru, velvets, and muslins is an ode to the Mughal era. Veils that are usually ditched at this time were brought back with train lehengas. Men were seen donning angrakhas, manarkalis and velvet shawls.

Mughal living. Its art and architecture – vintage gardens, palaces, paintings, jewellery, museums, and costumes that are immortalized in the grand and diverse culture of India.

·        Majesty of old-world regalia to re-interpret the look in a more suitable palette for modern tastes. The collection constitutes a big identity of Mughal cultural nuance with archival fabrics that brings forth the real fraction of the Mughal repertoire.

Hide & Seek

 Kunal Rawal’s neo-vintage couture collection for the MAN today has a wide array of options to choose and match your personality, mood and body type.  Shirts paired with bandhgalas, blazers over kurtas, and cropped embroidered jackets worm over dhotis and kurtas… The collection celebrates the legacy of Indian hand craft in a unique way and displays its signature style of – comfort meets luxury!

A wide variety of colours such as pinks , blush pinks, whites, olives and shades of beautiful pastels accentuated with gold and oxidised silver for that understated bling.

·        Metallic influences, goth appliques and zardozi work on the gowns and dresses to redefine structure & linearity that is signature to Shantanu & Nikhil.

·        Signature draped kurtas for men find a new companion in the structured bandhgalas and sherwanis.

·        Designs are out of the box (very structured and yet, the inimitable style of the drape is there) and are inspired by geometric angles. There is an architectural undercurrent to the  collection

The Ottoman Saga

Forty eight pieces comprising both menswear and womens wear revolve around the 3 key silhouettes of Indian weddings and celebrations: The Lehenga, The Sherwani and The Sari along with the label’s latest addition: the IKA jacket, which is a younger sibling to ‘Alika’, one of the labels’ cult and iconic jacket,

Inspirations

Ottoman silks, which were among the most characteristic and artistic products of the empire, besides the nomadic kilims of the period. Additionally, Ottoman miniatures, known as ‘Taswir’, which are painted to illustrate manuscripts or used in dedicated albums, and the art of ‘Tezhip’, (meaning ornamenting with gold), a non-figurative painted or drawn decorative art in books or on a sheet are eminently pervasive in this year’s collection. Also, part of the label’s discoveries this season are jewels of the Ottoman Empire, with the ‘Topkapi’ palace jewels, which are counted amongst the largest such treasuries in the Islamic world, holding the main treasures of the empire. Details of Turkish armour, especially the quills used then, as well as a medley of Turkish flora, fauna and fruits such as pomegranates further enrich this year’s collection.

Archana Aggarwal from Timeless Jewels.

This Ottoman inspired winter collection is named after ‘Bursa’, a city which holds a special place in Ottoman history as their founding capital, and also as the birthplace of Ottoman architecture..His first virtual show, titled Bursa at India Couture Week, was a visual narrative of the Ottoman empire, known for their ornamentation and artwork.
