Gleeden: The Lockdown Dairies

The Survey Reports

A lot of love stories have blossomed in the days of the lockdown and the newly made couples are desperately waiting to meet their love affairs. From the outset it’s hard to judge when the Cornonavirus crisis is going to leave India but one thing is for sure, love is unhindered from the outside surrounding and is blooming like never before.

Gleeden, an extramarital dating app conducted a survey after the beginning of Unlock 1.0 in India and found out that about 75% of its users are willing to meet their love interests if provided an opportunity.  The survey was rolled out among 1000 of its newly joined users and was conducted across Metropolitan cities like Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad and Pune.

The findings from the survey are pretty exciting and it also addresses the untouched side of the reasons behind Infidelity. Here is a glimpse of the same.

  1. The ‘heart’ is always dicey

Can you cheat on your spouse and still love him at the same time? Well, the answer to this question is as tricky as the question itself and Gleeden users are no exception. About 45.6% of them think that their shared intimacy won’t affect their current relationship while 47% of them believe that they cannot share the same level of emotions with two different people. A minute 7.4% are indecisive about their stand on shared intimacy with their spouses.

  1. Reasons why I did it!

Infidelity is considered as a taboo worldwide and there are a lot of factors leading up to the same. Lack of intimacy and compatibility in a relationship are just the kick starters to the ultimate fate. Interestingly, it has been found out that 37% of people commit Infidelity because they want to try out something new or spice up their existing relationship. About 36% of people commit Infidelity because they are in love with someone else other than their spouses while for the remaining 27% the decision of committing Infidelity was taken when they realised that their current partner is not the right match for them both emotionally and physically.

  1. ‘Parties’ are the place to make it happen

It has been found out that people usually try to make new connections while attending a social gathering or a club party; it can range from an office function to a Reunion. About 23% of people admitted that they look out for new relationships or flings in a party gathering while 22% of people would do this stunt on a vacation or while travelling. For 19% of them the best time is when their spouse is not at home or is out for a business trip. Also, about 12% of them are willing to find new connections within their office premises while the remaining 24% of total users are willing to try out multiple measures to find out their love interest.

  1. Keep it casual!

It seems that casual relationships are the need of the hour for Gleeden users as 38% of them would like to get into a new relationship without making serious future commitments. About 23% of the users still believe in the old school love and are looking for future life partners.

Interestingly, about 39% of Gleeden users are only interested in one time affairs and are not looking out for anything serious.

Saregama, India’s oldest music label and the youngest movie studio, announced its financial results for the 1st Quarter of the financial year 20-21. In a quarter which was locked down due to Covid-19, the Company was able to increase its PBT 110 times on y-o-y basis. With a consolidated turnover of Rs. 765 Mn and PBT of Rs 220 Mn, the Company was able to achieve 29% PBT margin in this Quarter. The PAT for the Quarter was 158 Mn

The primary profit driver was the increased consumption of Saregama IP: Music, Films, TV Serials on digital media by people staying at home. There is more content getting consumed by more number of people in the post-Covid-19 era than the pre-Covid-19 one.

These results have come despite Caravan sales slowing down in light of retail network being shut and no new shoots of our TV serials during this Quarter.

  1. New Licensing deals with Facebook and Spotify
  2. Two Yoodlee films released on Netflix: Chaman Bahaar and Axone. Both trended on Netflix Top 10 list
  3. License (remake, dubbing) deals for 2 Tamil TV serials in Telugu language
  4. Carvaan sale re-started around mid-June and 15k units were sold during the Quarter. There was a steep increase in the consumption of Podcasts on Carvaan 2.0 during this period.

International Trans Beauty Fights for her Existence even after Winning Pageant

India’s Naaz Joshi wins Ms. Universe Diversity 2020

Naaz Joshi, India’s first international trans beauty queen bagged her 6th international crown for India. For the first time, the Miss Universe Diversity organisation took the pageant digital this year due to Covid-19 outbreak. Contestants from 30 countries were given various online tasks, Joshi picked up the task on women safety. She educated women in rural areas the importance of self defence.

Replying to her final question how she sees the future of digital pageants, she answered,”that in situations like covid 19 pandemic, its best to go digital as an organization needs a spokesperson and a representative every year to perform duties to the mankind and a beauty queen duties can be performed digital as well. This has changed the things that were stereotyped for example kids education, working from home, zumba classes and many more that went digital this year.”

Her idea is to participate in various pageants to earn a name for herself so that she can have the voice and power to bring in the change. Next year Joshi will be participating in an international competition in New York where she will be representing Asia at large.

Her life has been full of struggles since childhood, she is from Delhi, her father is a Punjabi, and her mother is a Muslim. Her upbringing took place in her maternal uncle’s family.Even being crowned 6 times internationally, members of her own society don’t know her, the reason being that our society promotes the beauty of a woman but when it comes to transgenders most of the people are transphobic.
She received a 1000 USD cash prize with a Swarovski studded crown. Naaz Joshi is mother to two girls whom she adopted last year. She aims to build an orphanage specially for girls. Even after bagging 6 international titles for India,Naaz leads a life of a commoner, having no job. She lives on donations that people raise for her on a crowd funding app.

Jaipur Literature Festival

Man Booker recipient George Saunders to feature at the 100th episode of JLF Brave New World

Teamwork Arts, the producer of the iconic Jaipur Literature Festival, launched JLF Brave New World a few months ago, as the world went into lockdown grappling with a global pandemic. JLF Brave New World celebrates the power of literature in bringing together communities, a vital need in the de-globalised world created by Covid-19. Since its inception in April, the series has come a long way in a mere four months, witnessing some of the best conversations of current times with a diverse range of speakers. The series will soon celebrate its 100th milestone episode on Wednesday, 29th July 2020, with an extended celebratory evening featuring leading contemporary authors and speakers.

HIGHLIGHTS

In this special episode, Man Booker Prize-winning author of Lincoln in the Bardo, George Saunders will share insights into the mosaic of his prolific life and genre-bending body of work. In conversation with writer Amitava Kumar, Saunders, the master of modern fiction, will discuss the state of contemporary literature, its relation with power and politics, and the place held by darkness and kindness in stories.

The following episodes on Friday and Saturday will feature speakers like Stephen Fry, Bapsi Sidhwa, Urvashi Butalia, Carl Miller, Paulo Lemos Horta, etc.

Stephen Fry is one of the world’s best-known actors and comedians. But when he arrived at Cambridge, he was a convicted thief, an addict with a failed suicide attempt, and convinced that he would be expelled. Instead, university life offered him love and the chance to entertain. He befriended bright young things like Hugh Laurie and actress Emma Thompson. On Friday, Fry talks about his life and work with Mint Lounge editor Anindita Ghose as he tells the hilarious and compelling story of how he took his first step in the worlds of theatre, radio, television and film.

The next session will feature celebrated Zoroastrian novelist Bapsi Sidhwa speaking to writer and feminist publisher Urvashi Butalia about her creative journey across cultures, continents and chronicles, and what she calls her ‘Punjabi-Pakistani -Parsi’ roots. Her novels ‘Ice Candy Man’ and ‘Water: A Novel’ were adapted by Deepa Mehta for acclaimed films like ‘Earth’ and ‘Water’.  A biopic – ‘Bapsi: The Silences of My Life’ – is currently in production.

Multinational corporations are being shut overnight with a single tweet, Facebook has grown bigger than any state, robots are battling for elections, coders and hackers are writing policies, and algorithms are shaping our lives in more than unimaginable ways. On Saturday, Carl Miller, co-founder of the Centre for the Analysis of Social Media and author of the Transmission Prize-winning ‘The Death of the Gods’ that analyses the trajectory of power in the digital age, delves into how this power is indeed being transformed, fought over, lost and won in the digital medium, at this timely and incisive session.

Writer and translator Paulo Lemos Horta has written on the cultural and literary history of the ‘Arabian Nights’ and of the travellers, translators and storytellers who gave the world these unforgettable tales in his ‘Marvellous Thieves: Secret Authors of the Arabian Nights’ and Aladdin: A New Translation’. In ‘Aladdin’, Horta takes us on a dazzling journey, interweaving and reinventing the dark themes and enchanting whimsy of a classic that has transfixed us for ages. In conversation with Jaipur Literature Festival & JLF producer Sanjoy K. Roy at the week’s concluding session, Horta speaks of the stories, along with the stories behind the stories, to provide a fascinating glimpse of the great cultural reservoir of Arabic, Persian and Indian narratives.

Sessions at JLF Brave New World include conversations with speakers as well as Q&A picked from social media channels where audiences can submit questions and share comments with their favorite speakers.

I have my buyers who have been with me for 22 years but there are some who are not able to engage with us on a regular basis due to the demographics. I am very happy and hopeful this step will bring back those relationships which made Asha Gautam what it is today

  Gautam Gupta

The idea of an online store was brewing in our minds for a long time but due to time constraints we kept on deferring. This lockdown gave us time to consolidate all that we have and to create the website in the way we have been wanting to. The website will keep surprising the clients with novel ideas, innovations, and collaborations and of course new products. In our commitment towards promotion of local crafts and Vocal for Local as our PM Modi rightly said this is a big step and we are quite excited for the same.”
