Ask Shahnaz Husain

Frequently asked questions answered by Shahnaz Husain

  • How can I get rid of pimple marks?

Once daily, at any time, mix one teaspoon each of honey and lemon juice and apply on the face. Wash it off with plain water after 15 minutes. It helps to relieve dryness and also marks. Mix multani mitti with rose water and lemon juice into a paste and apply on the face three times a week. Wash it off when it dries. If there are no pimples, use a facial scrub twice a week. Apply on the face and rub gently on the skin with circular movements, especially on the pimple marks. Wash off with water.

  • My nails break easily. Suggest a remedy to grow strong nails.

Warm some pure almond oil or olive oil. Soak the finger tips in it for 10 minutes. Then massage the oil into the nails. Include adequate protein and calcium in your diet, like skimmed milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, egg, fish, sprouts. Follow a ten-day programme of taking gelatin. Dissolve one teaspoon gelatin in a little boiling water. Cool the water and add it to fruit juice. Have this daily for ten days.

  • My skin is oily and brown. Please tell me the order and method of using sunscreen, foundation, compact, etc.

For oily skin, wash the face with soap, two or three times a day, or use a face wash for oily skin. After cleansing in the morning, wipe the face with an astringent lotion, using cotton wool. Then apply sunscreen gel if you are going out in the sun. Wait for a few minutes and then apply compact powder. Look for compact powder with beige tones. Avoid foundation during the day. Compact powder will provide a smooth texture. Two or three times a week, mix multani mitti with rose water and lemon juice into a paste and apply on the face. Wash it off when it is dry.

  •  My hair becomes curly. I prefer straight hair.  Please tell me remedies.

Use a hand-held hair dryer at home to straighten the hair. The effect will last till the next shampoo. After washing the hair, while the hair is still damp, divide it in sections. Hold the end of a section with a comb or brush. Holding it straight and slightly downwards, use the hand held dryer to dry the hair. Repeat this with each section. Hold the dryer at least 6 inches away from the hair. Please note that excessive use of the hair dryer can cause dryness of the hair.

Celebrating Japanese Craftsmanship

Onitsuka Tiger Presents its Autumn-Winter 2020 Collection

Japanese fashion brand Onitsuka Tiger continues to present a contemporary collection that combines fashion with sports, and heritage with innovation.

The collection consists of items which keep Onitsuka Tiger’s identity intact yet combine it with modern and technical elements, such as a military jacket characterized by an attractive remake-taste combination where quilting, nylon and other fabrics are combined, as well as a down jacket which stands out with its technical elements of connecting nylon materials with different textures and pop neon colors. The collection also uses various materials, including a velour-like glossy nylon incorporating a sporty taste while maintaining elegance.

For footwear, the latest models combining archival elements from Onitsuka Tiger’s past with contemporary designs are lined up: DENTIGRE BOOT, which combines the classical boot design and a coat-type shoe upper of mixed different materials with its impactful sole, and the BIG LOGO TRAINER 2.0 MT, a hybrid of an upper inspired by vintage running-type shoes and the archival mid-cut sneakers and a modern sole, will be launched.

The collection also features items made in collaboration with NYC-based artist Brian Kenny – pants on which the number motif evoking pop culture in patchwork and shoes mixing colorful materials. When these special pieces are coordinated with the color-blocked nylon puffer jacket, they add a playful impression to the urban sporty style.

The color palette of the collection comprises various seasonal colors – vivid colors such as neon and light green; and dark colors like navy blue and black; as well as key military colors.

On the collection pieces, blue & red CLAW Stripes, which was utilized for the training wear in the 1970s, are applied as a new brand’s motif in varied sizes to add impact. Keeping the Onitsuka Tiger spirit unchanged even after more than 70 years have passed since the brand’s inception, and blending contemporary elements there.

This Raksha Bandhan, opt for an organic seed Rakhi to protect mountain communities against Pine Invasion

This Rakshabandhan, Him Vikas Self-Reliant Co-op, a Tata Trusts incubated women’s cooperative, has pledged to protect not just our loved ones, but our plants as well. As they fight the invasion of Pine through the native tree plantation in their villages, the women of Garhwal, the Him Vikas Self-Reliant Co-op (HVSRC) have designed and handcrafted Rakhis out of Pine wood bark, mauli, local lentil seeds and rice, a Gharwali staple, in Jharipani, Kanatal. This eco-friendly Seed Rakhi will nurture the Earth when buried.

Half of the profits of each Rakhi will contribute to the conservation of their native ecology from Pine invasion.

Pine tree (Pinus Roxburghii) is a problematic invasive species in the Shivaliks & Sub-Himalayan ranges, as it is rapidly taking over the native broad-leaved forests of Oak, Rhododendron, Utis and Kafal, amongst others. Too many pine trees are a major contributing factor towards depleting groundwater levels, forest fires and soil degradation.

To save their native ecology from Pine invasion, the Him Vikas Self-reliant Cooperative (HVSRC) is also organizing plantation drives of native flora (fruit trees & indigenous varieties) within common areas and Van Panchayats of their villages.

  • Pricing: These handmade Rakhis come as a pair for INR 275 (inclusive of all taxes and shipping charges, pan India).
