This Is How Senior Citizens in Bangalore Celebrated Ageless love this Valentine’s Day

Specially curated lunch spread for senior couples by Columbia Pacific Communities

To celebrate love in in all its forms and glory, senior citizens in Bangalore came together for Columbia Pacific Communities’ unique initiative of Valentine’s special meal comprising a 100 dishes at the Taj Yeshwantpur, Bangalore. The special lunch curated specially by Chef Selvaraju was served to three couples, including a single woman of 75 years who came with her friend. Through the unique experience for its senior residents, Columbia Pacific Communities takes the conversation of “positive ageing” forward.

Often seniors in our society are associated with various labels and celebrating love and being romantic is considered an impractical idea for seniors. As a brand, Columbia Pacific Communities has always stood against ageism, and attempted to break age-related stereotypes, whether it is through the campaign RELEARN or through initiatives such as organising south India’s first senior citizens flash mob.

Drawing parallels between food and relationships, Columbia Pacific Communities believes that both come with their own unique flavours, and both need time and patience to be nurtured. The initiative was a symbol of acknowledgment that love is ageless and selfless. It focuses on the fact that food often is an individual’s first love, and the love for food often builds lasting, loving relationships. Nothing spells ‘love’ more than a platter of delicious fare.

A contest titled #ExpressionsOfLove was run for residents of Serene Urbana by Columbia Pacific Communities and inviting poems, prose, photographs, painting, craft and other forms of art that depict an expression of love. The top three entries won a special Valentine’s Day meal comprising a 100 dishes at the Taj Yeshwantpur, Bengaluru.

Commenting on the initiative, said, Mohit Nirula, Chief Executive Office, Columbia Pacific Communities, “The Oxford dictionary defines “love” as “an intense feeling of liking and concern for another person.” It is not bound by age, it can be felt by the most young and one can continue to feel this emotion until one’s last day.  Columbia Pacific Communities is delighted to host three special couples from its senior living community Serene Urbana, a unique Valentine’s Day experience. Taj Yeshwantpur will host three couples for a Valentine’s special meal to celebrate love and demonstrate that love is ageless.”

71:Dash to Dhaka-Book on 1971 War

1971: THE DASH TO DACCA

The 50th anniversary of the 1971 war for the Liberation of Bangladesh falls next year in December on 13 Feb.The Army Chief Gen Narrative released a book on this war titled 71: The Dash to Dhaka. This explosive Book by Maj Gen (Dr) G D Bakshi, now lays bare some startling insights into how India’s most successful war since its inception was fought and won in just 14 breathtaking days.

The 1971 war for the Liberation of Bangladesh was a landmark conflict in the history of South Asia and the world. It dramatically changed the map of this region and marked a historical revival of Indian military power. In just 14 glorious and action packed days- three Indian corps sized spear heads raced for the capital city of Dacca. It was located in the most defensible, riverine terrain in the world. Yet the Indian Blitzkrieg bounced the wide rivers using Helicopters and Paradrops to speed up operations and paralayze the enemy command centre with precision air attacks. The India Air Force generated shock and awe over the battlefields of Bangladesh. Like an expanding torrent of water, the Indian army bypassed all major centers of opposition in its race for Dacca. Meanwhile the Indian Navy blockaded East and West Pakistan and cut off the two wings of the country. The plan is to make this into a mega, block buster movie for release next year.

Thus in 13 nail biting days the Indian forces marched on an enemy capital, enforced regime change and induced the largest mass surrender of forces.

After the Second World War, these were decisive results in a cold war era characterized by inconclusive wars and regional stalemates. This despite the American Seventh Fleet- led by the US aircraft carrier Enterprise, making menacing moves in the Bay of Bengal. This is the blow by blow, behind the scenes account of that war- how the critical decisions were arrived at- what major risks were taken and the superb planning and coordination between all organs of the Indian state – political, military, diplomatic and intelligence. For the first time it also provides an accurate insight into why the mighty PLA under Mao ze dong (who threw in a million troops into Korea to fight the Americans) himself sat paralysed through it all and did not dare to intervene – even symbolically. It simply let its most trusted ally go down fighting desperately. Despite fervent Pakistani appeals and American prodding-why did China sit out this war? This book clearly answers this seminal question. It also highlights the roles played by the USSR, the cynical and self serving role of President Nixon of USA and of course the roles played by the Indian political and military leaders, the Intelligence services and bureaucracies.

It was simply India’s finest hour. It unconsciously revived the Kautiliyan paradigm of war- fighting – premised upon a long preparatory campaign to destabilize the target state, build up forces methodically and then launch a sudden, fast- paced operation using war elephants in the mass for shock action- to decisively defeat the enemy and march onto his capital. Very unconsciously, this was the precise pattern of operations that emerged in Bangladesh-whether by design or by default. It entailed eight months of preparation in which the Mukti Bahini harassed and stretched out the Pakistani army in the East. A sudden, 14 day blitzkrieg where air power was used to generate shock and awe and simply mopped up in the wake of that campaign of destabilization.

Kautilya used to insist upon achieving complete information dominance before launching the campaign. India was able to shape the global, regional and local information environments completely in its favour before commencement of hostilities. it focused radio- monitoring resources in the east to keep itself fully abreast of all Pakistani military moves. The Mukti- Bahini provided vital enemy and terrain intelligence. India shaped attitudes, emotions and opinions all over the globe. India used the mitra  or the ally in the shape of the USSR to counter the highly  potent threat of the USA and China combine which was aggressively supporting Pakistan. One of the key findings of this book is the answer to the historical conundrum- why did China not intervene in this war? It was then the million dollar question and led to a lot of concern in the Indian leadership right till the very end. With detailed historical hindsight this book answers the key question of China’s non- intervention in the most decisive conflict in South Asia that changed the very map of this region.

For soldiers all over the world this text book, tri- services campaign provides highly pertinent lessons that are still valid in our times. It was a model tri- service campaign that saw superb coordination and synergy between the three services and all wings of the Indian state. Synergy and coordination has been a historical weakness in Indian attempts at war fighting. This in fact was the most remarkable aspect of this war. How it became a classic whole of the Govt approach and all wings of the Indian nation state worked in complete harmony to generate an amazing synergy that produced spectacular results on the battle field. This was a war that saw the Indian political and military leadership at its historical best. So did the intelligence services and diplomats cover themselves with glory on how they supported clear-cut national aims and how a highly synergized strategic approach unfolded – almost on its own? Bakshi goes into details of the stellar roles played by Madam Gandhi, Fd Marshal Manekshaw, Air Marshal PC Lall, the Navy Chief Admiral Nanda- as also the lesser known but highly significant- in fact pivotal- planning roles of Lt Gen Jacob and Inder Gill and our best field commander Lt Gen Sagat Singh.

Above all, as Bakshi points out, it was a Just war- in keeping with India‘s civilisational concept of a Dharma Yudhha or Righteous war. The Bangladesh war therefore saw the revival of an Indian paradigm of war- fighting that had first been enunciated by Kautilya in his magnum opus – the Artha Shastra. The Bangladesh 1971 war will always rank amongst the classic campaigns of the worlds military history. it is a campaign that should define the Indian Art of war-fighting and should be our text book model in the turbulent years ahead.

Jaspreet Chandok, head of lifestyle business for IMG Reliance, said, “Sustainability is one of our key conversations at Lakmé Fashion Week, with an entire day dedicated to it. This season we have made several strides in reducing our carbon footprint and will work towards a leather-free Sustainable Fashion Day next season! Animals used for leather in India are often crammed into vehicles in such large numbers that their bones break. If they survive the journey to the slaughterhouse, their throats are cut in full view of other animals – and many are dismembered and skinned while they’re still conscious. To keep the skins from rotting, tanneries use a variety of caustic, toxic chemicals, which are often dumped directly into waterways. One of the most widely used chemicals in the tanning process is chromium, which can cause cancer in workers exposed to it. The waste from leather production also causes skin and respiratory disorders in people who work in and live near tanneries.

PETA India – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to wear”, and which opposes speciesism, which is a human-supremacist worldview – notes that vegan leather and other animal-friendly options are available at nearly all major shoe and clothing shops in the country.

HEAL BEFORE YOU ENTER A RELATIONSHIP

HEAL BEFORE YOU ENTER A NEW RELATIONSHIP

With the ongoing Valentine’s week, we can feel love all around us. People are doing every bit to make their loved ones feel special. At the same time, it is important to make yourself feel good. If you are looking for love in a healthy relationship, there are times when you have to deal with the underlying issues from the past — like a fear of rejection or engulfment or maybe not able to move on from the previous relationships which further leads to uncertainty in your future relationships.Nothing is constant, not even relationships, some relationships come and stays forever and some leaves. When these relationships leave it has a strong impact on our mind, body and emotions. Sometimes, these impact paves the way to certain diseases like cancer.   So, this Valentine’s ask yourself, are you over your past or still it’s bothering you. If yes, below is your TO- DO- List this Valentine’s day by Dr Anju Sharma,  Psychiatrist, Sound & Energy Master, Wellness-Holistic Coach  and Founder of the Musical Healing Band named “Sound of Infinity”.

  1. Closure of past relationships – The need for closure doesn’t just apply to relationships but sometimes to the death of a loved one or a way of life can be a painful ending. Letting go of something that was once dear to you can be tough, and many people seek closure in doing so. When we seek closure we are actually looking for answers to the loss which will help in healing the pain it has created. The closure is achieved when we are satisfied with the answers and are able to move on.
  1. Communicate–Communication is an important part of the healing process. It is very important to talk out the feelings and emotions within before they start to take control of our mind. During this time the emotions can overwhelm your clarity and can lead you to break down in tears and create an anxiety attack. But, when you learn how to communicate those feelings, it causes a chain reaction and allows you to ease up the tension building within. Ensure you communicate peacefully and not argue. Arguing will only add up to your stress level.
  1. Take a break and meet new people– Taking a break or going on a vacation will make you feel less anxious, more rested and in a better mood. Taking a break from your routine has numerous health benefits for both your mind and body. Meeting new people and knowing them helps you to distant yourself from the past. It promotes happiness and takes your mind off stressful situations.
  1. Don’t lock yourself – Never lock yourself in a room. This way you will never heal and will never make a room for a new relationship. By locking yourself in a room and suffering silently, you are punishing yourself. You need to continue taking care of your mind, body and emotion. Focus on things you love to pursue and spend some quality time with your loved ones.
  1. Connect with nature–There is a sense of enchantment in the beauty of nature. Immersing oneself can offer short term as well as long term benefits for your mental and physical well-being. Being in a natural set up reduces your stress level and boost the immune system. It further helps in recovering from illness and that is why you will see hospitals and other medical institutes having a garden in their premises. A small exposure to nature can increase your energy level and make you feel fresh and alive.
  1. Analyze past situations and understand the mistakes – To get over the past relationship(s), you need to analyze what went wrong in those relations, whose fault it was, how things could have been different. In case, the fault was from your end, then you need to accept it full-heartedly and work on your short-comings so that such a mistake is not repeated in you’re the future relationship. If the mistake is from the opposite side, then try to communicate and put a peaceful closure to it.
  1. Take therapy – With all the above-mentioned measures, you can consult a therapist or an expert who will help you in overcoming the past relationships. Therapies like sound therapy and meditation help to ooze out the negative energy within, making you feel alive.

About Sound of Infinity-

Sound of Infinity is Asia’s first healing band founded by DrAnju Sharma, a psychiatrist, sound and energy master. While doing sound healing and treating people through sound and music, DrAnjurealized that everyone loves music therefore, forming a band will create awareness among more and more people.

All these while she was giving quality healing to certain people, but in a band format, DrAnju wanted to heal people in quantity. When there is a performance by Sound of Infinity, people come together in a large group andget entertained and also get healed simultaneously. The crux of this concept is to make people aware that music and all the related frequencies heal an individual.  Their performances arein the form of a concert. The band plays a combination of various music and ragas from the Vedic and from the time when civilization was started. Therefore, their performance is a mix of Tribal music, ragas and various other music forms.

The objective behind creating the band is to make people aware that they can cure and heal themselves through music and various frequencies and its vibrations. They don’t need anyone to heal them.  On the other hand, to attain spiritual part, all the three aspects, namely, mental, physical and emotional should be crystal clear which is possible through sound healing.

Talking about how sound healing works on a person, then we need to focus on the cells of our body. Each body is made up of small cells like electrons, protons and neutrons. These cells are filled with water. So, when we keep a sound or any vibration therapy near water, it will create ripples. These ripples create electronic magnetic waves that travel through our bodies and work on the body.

The one of its kind band is a group of 11 members with Dr Anju Sharma as the lead. The band also have two 4-year-old twin girls also known as Divine Girls. The band with its performance will reveal why the life cycle revolves around 9.
