Samir gets candid in this exclusive interview with Retropop Lifestyle.
Tell us about your journey into music and how did you develop love and adoration for superstar Shahrukh Khan.
It all happened when I watched this movie starring Eminem called “8 Mile” for the first time. I fell in love with rap music instantly, and what started as a passion & hobby soon transitioned into a career. As a kid, I was bullied and teased a lot for looking different. I never fit in with the other kids at school, so, in my childish assumption, I felt like I would be accepted and loved by everybody if I became like SRK. That and also the fact that I was a huge fan of his movies as a kid.
Shahrukh Khan flow is a dedication to your favorite actor, how did you come up with this entire concept?
I make music from my life experiences and SRK Flow felt completely natural, therefore.
With the pandemic now, the overall scene of music has changed, everything is now digital and so is your launch, How do you cope with the change? I mean I don’t have much of a choice. It’s an ever-changing environment and we have to adapt or cease to survive. Plus digital is the future so the sooner we realize that, the better equipped we will be to march into the future.
What is the most important thing when it comes to curating music?
I think the emotions behind the song are what truly matter to me. If it’s coming from a real place, then I go with it and create it.
What are the challenges a rap of faces in comparison to composing commercial music?
Well, rap is almost mainstream now. It also is the biggest genre in the world right now. It’s only a matter of time when real rap will be commercial music in India.
You have named a lot many people In this song, although what your personal favourites?
Yes, indeed. I grew up to most of the people I have named like Shaktimaan, Hanumaan, Rajnikant. I also respect and admire people like Samir Bangara who was like a Godfather figure to me, so it was only right to give him a shout-out. Then there were other people like Sushant Singh Rajput, Abdul Kalam, Irfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor who I was a fan of for a long time.
What do we expect from Rapper Big Deal coming up in the near future?
My debut album is in the works. SRK Flow was the first single from the album and the second single should hit the speakers in a few weeks and I’m certain that’s really gonna shake things up. I’m so excited for what’s in store.
