Views on the Growing Suicide Cases
By Dr Anju Sharma
The entire Hindi film industry and the nation came across shocking and tragic news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s suicide at his Mumbai house. In his last film ‘Chhichhore’ he taught his on-screen son to never give up on life despite many failures and hurdles. Today, he gave up on life.
Off-Recently, we are getting to read the news on celebrities and artists committing suicide. In India, most of the people follow celebrities and do whatever they promote. As a normal individual, we see the life of a celebrity as a dream that we aim for. But only a few know the reality. As a public figure, there are many expectations that one has to live upto. They have to maintain their lifestyle, their diet, their workouts, stay fit and look good. All these just to please the audience…
Moreover, they don’t have any privacy. This is the time when the person suppresses the feeling of loneliness and sometimes fall prey to bad addictions. Although many factors can impact a person’s decision to commit suicide, the most common one is high-level isolation. It can make people experience emotional pain and loss of hope. They are unable to see another solution to relieve the pain other than ending their own life. There is a constant feeling of unbelongingness and disconnect with the world.
If you are going through such feelings or know anyone showing warning signs, please immediately reach out to someone who will not judge you and share your feelings. Open up about all your fears or negative feelings. If somebody wants to talk to you please listen to them without judging them. The only solution to help people out of depression is Communication. This does not just apply to individuals who are already in depression but also to those who might get into this dark black hole if isolation or feeling of misfit hits them.
