Rich in skill but limited in resources, artisans and craftsmen of India were immediately impacted by the fallout from the global financial meltdown due to the Covid -19 pandemic. Consequently, inventory piled up while income dwindled and eventually dried up, placing the artisans and their families in a very precarious position. Thus, TRUNKIN’ was launched to help the artisans survive the pandemic through new wholesale and retail channels. It is thus that along with relieving them of their stock Trunkin’ also aims at finding ways and methods of giving back to them.
Mr. Manav Bhatia, the founder of TRUNKIN’ sits at the advisory board of a government initiative called E- Nurture. He is also associated at an Export promotion council programme called Centre for Handicrafts Exports Management Studies (CHEMS) and has been appointed as guest faculty there, having already delivered a 2 hr long maiden lecture.
TRUNKIN’ now has formed a counterpart in the USA. Called Trunkinusa and having spread to the US, Mexico and Canada, TRUNKIN’ along with relieving their stocks has now started to give back to the artisans as well. Various ways such as sponsoring the education of their children and holding eye camps for them are being worked upon and to somewhat even achieved.
