FashionFDCI x LAKMÉ FASHION WEEK

FDCI presents The ‘men’s Edit’ as part of The Emerging Talent Initiative

With an aim to provide a platform to talented designers across the fashion spectrum in India, the Fashion Design Council is all set to present three menswear labels as part of the Emerging Talent showcase at the upcoming edition of FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week in Mumbai. Khanijo, by Gaurav Khanijo, Countrymade by Sushant Abrol and Son of a Noble SNOB by Mani Shankar Singh and Ritu Jain will present different perspectives on menswear trends.

‘Into the Labyrinth’ by Khanijo is inspired by the Greek artificer Daedalus’s labyrinth and the story that it wielded. Standing for a symbol of confusion and disorientation, the maze in question is also a course to a point of disembarkation, a door to probable prospect also outlining the significance and meaning of an image or object as a matter of perception and perspective. Featuring achromatic colour blocking, intelligent texture blocking, and novel shapes derived from the idea of illusion, the collection will be brought together through an immersive experience, parading further deep into the labyrinth.

‘Homecoming’ by Countrymade is an attempt at expressing the longing for the return of a friend, a loved one and a soldier. The collection takes cues from the emotions on a battlefield and translates them into visually striking prints and embroideries. From a molten take on camouflage to bleeding colors in checks, bruised stitches, up-cycled textiles and woodblock prints that denote a nostalgic take on home the interpretations play high on psychology of a soldier. The textiles used are all natural and range from heavy linens, a blend of hemp, cotton twill, handloom denim and silk, while the silhouettes range from vintage military cropped jackets to simplified versions of the M65 and HBT22 jackets, workwear shirts teamed with utilitarian bottoms.

‘The War Within’ by Son of a Noble SNOB will feature a sportwear influenced collection with Indian silhouettes that have a global outlook to them. Inspired from the current times we live and in the impact of the world we have seen in the past three years, the origin for the showcase will emerge from fighting the challenges and differences that many of us face in our inner life. Stating that the actual enemy is within us and not externally present, the designs portray a warrior like feeling as each of us takes on the world.

Comprising of geometrically asymmetric cuts and strong modern shapes, the pieces are wearable and resonate deeply with the designers DNA.

“At FDCI, we have always endeavored to highlight the best talent in the fashion industry and as we enter into a new era of design, it is extremely important for us to showcase new voices whose creations will set the course for a varied approach to fashion. Each of the designers and labels presenting have such distinct voices and it will be wonderful to witness a cohesive yet individualistic take on menswear. We look forward to bringing forth many more emerging designers showcases at future seasons of FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week.” said FDCI Chairman, Sunil Sethi.
