INNISFREE INDIA WITH SANKALP TARU INITIATES A GREEN FOREST CAMPAIGN

A Green Promise

#WorldEnvironmentDay #innisfreeIndia #GlobalinnisfreeGreenForest

Innisfree, the Korean naturalism brand from Jeju island in association with India’s leading Tree Plantation NGO, Sankalp Taru. Is ready to host the fourth edition of a tree plantation drive in India. This edition, innisfree is planting 1000 orange trees in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra. The region has been struck by drought for several consecutive years. Giving us a strong reason to help the farmers in the region by planting trees. Each tree in innisfree’s virtual forest will be geo-tagged and photographed for better transparency and monitoring purposes.

The innisfree Green Forest Campaign is dedicated to giving back to nature and has planted 1,94,036 trees globally since then. So far, 1,500 trees have been planted across various regions of India, including 100 trees in Uttrakhand for World Earth Day, Alwar, Binsur, etc. In addition to this, every year innisfree India donates a portion of the proceeds from Forest for Men sales. To the conservation of Gotjawal Forest, aka the oxygen tank of Jeju Island.

With this initiative, Innisfree intends to give it back to arid lands, by practicing the methods of afforestation. To provide the community with lush greenery leading to fresh fruits and oxygen for decades to come. The Green Forest Campaign is a part of innisfree’s global CSR activity. And focuses on rehabilitation of barren land, community development and conservation of our ecosystem by increasing the overall contribution to forests through sustainable development.

Further..

innisfree prides itself on taking a Green Promise. And takes care to give back more than we take from our nature. We hold several campaigns throughout the year to nurture the well-being of the Earth. This includes the Eco Handkerchief, where instead of using disposable cotton pads. We promote the use of hankies to save trees, and keep our forests green. We also invite all clients to return empty innisfree bottles at our stores. As part of our bottle recycling campaign in-stores.

“This is our fourth step towards the Global Green Forest Campaign which we have initiated in India in 2018. We are very excited and looking forward to this activity. Being a natural brand we always believed in giving back to the society. We have partnered with Sankalp Taru since they are experienced in this field and have a good expertise overall. We have taken Vidarbha region of Maharashtra because the region has been struck by drought for several consecutive years. Giving us a strong reason to help the farmers in the region by planting trees.

These trees will be geo-tagged and photographed for better transparency and monitoring purposes. Innisfree is a natural beauty brand and we believe from the core to preserve nature in a big way. With planting of 1000 trees in this kind of an area we believe to build an “INNIFOREST”
— Mr. Doyoul Lee, Country Head, innisfree India

Also…

“SankalpTaru is glad to be associated with innisfree for the last few years on various afforestation programs. Our engagement with innisfree India started in 2018 with creating green patches in the barren terrain of Alwar district in Rajasthan. Now we are together instrumental in bringing cheers to the farmers with sustainable livelihood options by planting fruit bearing trees in Vidarbha Maharashtra. These farmers were otherwise struggling with frequent crop failures due to uneven weather pattern or drought.

Covid 19 is a warning as well as an opportunity for us to accelerate environmental conservation efforts. We are glad that our partnership with innisfree has come a long way to achieve this target and make the planet greener and prosperous for future generations to come.”

— Apurva Bhandari, Founder & Director, Sankalp Taru

GIFT A TREE – A Plantation Drive in Sirohi, Rajasthan By Sanyam Seva

By Shivi & Sanmati Sanyam

During this pandemic, we all saw our social media flooded with requests for oxygen. And it was hard-hitting to realise that something that we have been inhaling for free for all these years is actually so expensive when it comes in a cylinder. We all keep talking about going for a holiday once all this is over. Not noticing that the joy we are seeking from a trip to the hills. It is all connected with the environment in the region- the innumerable trees, the fresh air. It’s the connection with nature that has a soothing effect we all are so desperately craving.

GIFT A TREE - A Plantation Drive in Sirohi, Rajasthan By Sanyam Seva

We all have come to realise the value of trees the hard way. We all know why planting a tree is important and yet millions of people have never planted a tree in their lifetime.

Further..

To give us some much needed motivation, this Lawyer and Energy Healer duo. Are serving the residents of Sirohi and doing their bit for the planet through various programmes under their initiative – SANYAM SEVA.

Shivi Sanyam, the brains behind Sanyam Seva shares with us that this World Environment Day, they have curated a 4 kilometre roadside project to plant 1300 trees as a kick start to the larger scheme. Where every panchayat of Sirohi district shall endeavour to have a dedicated area for planting trees. The entire project shall employ local people of the district, with preference to widows and women from backward communities.

As a CALL TO ACTION

They are encouraging people to GIFT A TREE. This creative initiative gives people an opportunity to celebrate important moments. And milestones by sharing this thoughtful present with their loved ones.

For every 10 trees planted, the organisation Sanyam Seva will be sharing a gift certificate mentioning the name of the person. In whose honour the trees are being planted along with google coordinates of the location. Regular updates of the growth of the tree via pictures on email/whats app and once the tree reaches a certain height. The tree guards will have a tag mentioning the name of the person for/by whom these trees have been planted.

GIFT A TREE - A Plantation Drive in Sirohi, Rajasthan By Sanyam Seva

Sanmati Sanyam, the Co-Founder of Sanyam Seva and Founder of House of Healers tells us that this experience of gifting a tree has the ability to light up people’s lives not just in the present day but for years to come. One tree planted will give you a reason to smile each time you get an update about its growth from us, in the years to come you can bring your children, grandchildren to show them this tree in real time. And, when you plant a tree in the loving memory of someone who is not around anymore, it forever keeps their legacy, their memory alive and etched in our hearts.

We are starting the plantation drive by planting 10 trees in the name of our Guru – Grand Master Choa Kok Sui followed by planting a tree each in the name of our clients at House of Healers who lost their lives during this pandemic. 13 people in 13 months. I cannot change the reality for the families that lost their loved ones but this is the way I am choosing to honour these beautiful souls and to share with the families an opportunity to embrace their loved ones by hugging this tree, sitting under its shade for years and generations to come.

Leaving a lesser footprint around the Town in Mammoth Lakes, California.

Sustainable travel has been gaining a lot of popularity in recent times and is touted to be the future of Travel. While celebrating World Environment Day, let’s look at ways you can do your part to leave a lesser footprint when visiting Mammoth Lakes.

Mammoth Lakes, California. world environment day
Convict-Lake-InstaMeet-WRAY

Mammoth Lakes is perched in the Eastern Sierra, a half-day’s walk from some of California’s most spectacular high country. It boasts breathtaking mountain scenery surrounded by extensive national forests and picturesque lakes. When visiting Mammoth Lakes, following responsible and sustainable practices is encouraged. Promoting the “leave no trace” principle wherever you choose to find your adventure.

During COVID-19, leaving no trace also includes your germs, so a few extra rules apply. When out and about in town, be sure to wear a face-covering in public areas. Including the outdoors, maintain at least 6 feet of distance from non-family members. And keep those hands super clean, as there are more surfaces to touch than out in the wild.

Get familiar with the rest of the rules below to ensure you’re recreating responsibly in every part of the Sierra.

Mammoth Lakes, California. world environment day

WALK, BIKE, RIDE

One of the best ways to reduce your impact is to keep your car parked. Mammoth Lakes offers tons of other ways to easily to get around our small four-square-mile town, from miles of paved paths. And sidewalks to mountain bike or electric bike rentals to free transit on the town trolley. And bus system, including up to the Lakes Basin. You can even get to Yosemite National Park by purchasing a ticket for the YARTS bus. Which includes your park entrance fee.

REDUCE SINGLE-USE PLASTICS

There’s no need to pay for those pricey single-use plastic water bottles when you can find several free water-refilling stations around town. Including inside some local businesses. Invest in a reusable water bottle or wash and reuse a previously purchased drink bottle. That can be thrown in your bag while out for the day. You can also refill it before you leave your table at a restaurant if dining out.

PICK UP AFTER YOUR PET

If Fido is lucky enough to join you on your town outing, he’s going to have to “go” at some point. Be sure to pick up after him and dispose of his waste in a trash can. If you forgot your doggy bags, a few bag dispensers can be found around town. Pet waste is not only unpleasant to come across on or near the sidewalk. But it can also contaminate the local water source, and be eaten by wild critters and disrupt their natural diet.

Also, familiarize yourself with the local leash laws and remember that your pup must be restrained at all times when walking around town. Some pets are also welcome on a few town transit routes, but a muzzle is required.

RESPECT OUR WILDLIFE

Keep the wildlife wild by removing any opportunity for them to get their paws on human food or trash. Our town trash cans and dumpsters are specifically designed to keep bears and other animals out, so please make sure the trash can or dumpster door is closed and latched tightly after each use. Hand-feeding or putting food out to attract creatures doesn’t only teach them bad habits by relying on humans for food, it’s also putting yourself in a dangerous situation. Stay safe by keeping at least 50 feet away from wildlife.

RECYCLE & DON’T LITTER

Look for the large, square, brown public trash cans, there are many located all throughout town. Most are partnered with a recycling receptacle, making it easy to dispose of everything you need to. You can toss in most recyclables (view detailed recycling guide), including:

  • Glass
  • Aluminum
  • Tin
  • Plastic (#1 and #2 only)
  • Cardboard
  • Paper

If you have a large amount of recycling, you can take it to Mammoth Disposal located in the industrial park just off Meridian Blvd. at the east end of town.

Your first step toward more sustainable recreation can be as simple as reading and signing the Mammoth Lakes Promise to commit to keeping Mammoth Lakes beautiful.

Your perfect skincare guide for this summer

By Dr Priya Puja

With the onset of summer, accompanied is the rise in temperature due to which your skin and hair undergo a lot and need extra protection, love and care. It also brings with it a variety of problems such as rashes, acne, tanning, sunburn, skin infections, pigmentation etc… Thus it becomes extremely important to understand what your skin is going through and accordingly treat it or else follow a routine which prevents any damage.Dr Priya Puja recommends a few tips for a carefree and skin friendly summer –

Relax, Rejuvenate and fall in love with your skin

Kaya-_-DAILY-MOISTURIZING-SUNSCREEN-SPF-30 summer
Kaya-_-DAILY-MOISTURIZING-SUNSCREEN-SPF-30

Screen the sun –

Small amounts of sun is beneficial for the skin and essential for production of vitamin D. However, prolonged exposure to solar UV radiation may have a hazardous impact on the skin. If you are going to be out in the sun it is essential that you wear a sunscreen or sunblock.

Not all sunscreens are made alike – some provide a physical barrier (minerals) while others provide a chemical barrier that absorbs ultraviolet rays. Zero down on a sunscreen that best meets your requirements and contains sun protection factor (SPF). SPF 30 is best recommended for Indian skin types. Apply sun screen 20 to 30 minutes before stepping out and ensure you wear sunscreen every day, even when you are indoors. Reapply the sunscreen every 3-4 hours to maintain the protection. Kaya ultra-light aquagel sunscreen is a perfect option for a lightweight sunscreen which is suitable for oily skin types whereas people with normal to dry skin types can use the Kaya daily moisturizing sunscreen.

Kaya-_-ULTRA-LIGHT-AQUAGEL-SUNSCREEN-SPF-25 summer

Cleansing, Toning and Moisturizing –

From dry air-conditioned homes to walks in the sweaty weather outside, one needs to pay special attention to summer skincare. Follow the CTMritual twice a day for best results. Summers are usually a troublesome time for individuals with acne. To keep your skin acne-free use a cleanser that contains salicylic acid that helps reduce acne and prevent future breakouts. People with Oily skin type may benefit from the Purifying range of Kaya products.

Exfoliate –

Incorporating exfoliation into your skin care regimen is a must to avoid dull skin! Exfoliants remove dead skin cells, toxins and other deposits; it further allows new skin cells to surface. Scrub your elbows and knees at least twice a week to get rid of dead tissues. Rub a slice of lemon with sugar every alternate day to keep them clean and to remove tan.

Hair Woes –

Since hair tends to be moisture-deprived during summers, overuse of any kind of chemical and hair styling tool should be avoided. Frequent shampooing due to the immense heat often results in loss of shine and moisture as well. Consider switching to a gentle shampoo and use a deep conditioner to replenish the loss of moisture. Massage your hair with a mixture of coconut oil, castor and olive oil regularly to keep your hair nourished.  And if you are one of them who is keen on trying homemade remedies, then whisk 2 egg yolks with 1 tablespoon of mayonnaise and apply this mask on the bottom 2/3rds of your hair. Wash it off after 15 minutes.

Happy Feet –

During summers our feet become the target of a variety of potential foot maladies including eczema, fungal infections, and embarrassing “smelly feet”. Start with wearing an open sandal in the summer to keep your feet dry and give them a chance to “breathe”. Your feet are subject to sunburn just like the rest of your body. Use sunscreen during the day and during the evenings apply a lightweight moisturizer. A foot powder is a must as it helps to soak up excessive moisture that can breed fungi and bacteria. Head for a pedicure once every week. This will keep your foot clean. Trim your toe nails to avoid dirt and dust from accumulating under your toe nails.

Maintain a healthy diet –

Make fruits your best friends this summer. With summers in full swing, it is advised that apart from drinking lots of water, a special summer diet consisting of light and healthy food would ensure a cool mind and body. To keep your skin hydrated, eat lot of fresh fruits and green vegetables. Include fruits and vegetables like bitter gourd, spinach, cucumber, watermelons, oranges, cherries, plums and lychee to your diet. They are highly nutritious with an abundant supply of fiber, vitamins, anti-oxidants and minerals.

Here’s how you can protect your heart from COVID19

By Dr Vivek Mahajan

The COVID19 pandemic is the most unprecedented crisis faced by mankind in our living memories. The virus is also a complex puzzle and poses a formidable challenge for medical practitioners. In this second wave, the damaging effect of the virus is becoming more and more clear. Lung affection in the form of severe Viral Pneumonia which leads to poor oxygenation of the various body organs and the requirement of supplementary oxygen & ventilator support, is a common form of presentation among moderate to severe COVID19 patients. It is also a common cause for death. However, this is only one of the many ways in which COVID19 infection can harm the patient. The impact on the cardiovascular system is very common and can prove fatal even in mild COVID19 infections. Let’s try to understand this in greater detail.

COMORBIDITIES MAKE PEOPLE MORE VULNERABLE TO SEVERE COVID INFECTION: The virus infects vital organs like the Heart, Lungs, blood vessels, and Kidneys in a more severe way if these organs are unhealthy prior to COVID19 infection. Various conditions like high blood pressure, Diabetes, previous Heart Attacks, weak Heart, overweight and Obesity, Chronic Lung Disease, Asthma, Chronic Kidney Disease, etc., result in an easier entry of the virus in these vital organs and lead to a more severe infection. Lack of exercise, faulty dietary patterns, smoking, alcohol overuse, excessive snoring, poor blood pressure, and blood glucose control, being overweight and Obese make these vital organs diseased and more vulnerable to COVID19. There is a lot of hype on various unproven therapies touted to prevent COVID19 infection. However, the most effective strategy to prevent a severe COVID19 infection is regular aerobic exercise, healthy diets, weight control, BP and blood glucose control and cessation of smoking & alcohol overuse.

THE LINK BETWEEN CARDIOVASCULAR COMPLICATIONS AND COVID: COVID19 virus directly infects the lining of the blood vessels both carrying the pure blood to the organs (Arteries) and the impure blood from various organs to the Heart (Veins). This can also cause blood clots in the veins of the leg leading to a condition called Deep Vein Thrombosis. These clots may dislodge and travel to the Lung vessels via the Heart, blocking the blood supply to the Lungs. This is a condition called Pulmonary Thromboembolism and is life-threatening if the clot is a large one. If similar clotting occurs in the arteries of the Heart, then it could lead to a debilitating stroke which can be life-threatening. The arteries of the Heart are particularly vulnerable to choking by clot formation, Heart Attacks and these are commonly seen among COVID19 patients. These clotting complications may occur even in milder forms of infection even a few weeks or months after the recovery. Blood thinners like Rivaroxaban may be beneficial to prevent these complications in selected patients at a higher risk.

HOW COVID CAUSES A HEART ATTACK? The virus may directly infect the muscles of the heart and lead to a condition called Myocarditis. Complaints of palpitation are very common after COVID-related Myocarditis. Patients often exhibit fluctuation in heart rate from very fast to extremely slow for few weeks to months after recovery. Some patients tend to have a severe infection of the Heart muscle and can lead to extreme weakness of the Heart leading to Heart Failure. This can lead also to dangerously fast disturbances of Heart rhythm called ‘Arrhythmias’ and these can lead to sudden cardiac arrest.

HOW TO PROTECT SUCH PATIENTS? Patients having features of palpitations or breathlessness should be evaluated for the involvement of the heart muscle. 2D echo, MRI of the Heart, and blood tests for Heart muscle damage assessment like Troponin may be advised. 24-hour monitoring of the heart rhythm with a Holter monitor may help in detecting Heart rhythm disturbances. Steroids and antiarrhythmic drugs can be particularly helpful in such conditions to prevent Heart rhythm disturbances. A weakened Heart can lead to Heart failure post-COVID which can give rise to shortness of breath and swelling all over the body and particularly in the feet. This can happen in people with pre-existing weak Hearts. Various drugs which remove the excessive water through urine and improve the functioning of the Heart can be helpful in such conditions.

The Heart and the blood vessels are particularly vulnerable after a COVID infection and the risk persists for quite some time after recovery. Although we have therapies to reduce the risk of these Heart-related complications, prevention of severe COVID infection through a healthy lifestyle and appropriate correction of pre-existing chronic illness is a more desirable option. Vaccination should serve as major protection against severe COVID19 infection and the resulting Heart-related complications.
