D’mart Wedding Gift collection

Wedding gifts are a way through which relatives shower affection and care for the bride and groom. Families of the couple exchange them as a token of respect and goodwill. Everyone wants their weddings to be grandeur. In order to ensure this, they go lengths and breadths looking for the best and luxurious gift items in the marketplace.

However, a fact that we tend to overlook is that the best gifts are the ones that the couple and relatives can cherish each day of their lives. Hence, one should always put in a little thought before purchasing gifts be it for a wedding or some other occasion.

Mr. Praveen Rao, President, Dolphin Group said “d’mart Exlusif has become the epitome of fusion gifting with magnificent pieces that leave you wanting more for your perfect date. The customization and personalization at d’mart Exclusif is sure to leave one spellbound! Each component of d’mart Exclusif comes with an attached utility quotient allowing the receiver to keep using her/his gift, bounding you with the special memories it brings back.”

While shopping for gifts for the couple, it is pragmatic to buy gifts that match their interests. For instance, if the bride is fond of home decor and aesthetics, you can gift her centrepiece, candle holder, frames, vases, etc. whereas bar accessories would make up for a perfect gift for the groom for hosting a game night or casual evening with friends” adds Mr. Praveen Rao.

Can Fashion & Earth Co-exist?

From recycling and reusing leftover fabrics, promoting slow fashion to including cruelty free products. In their designs, the fashion industry is making an effort to create a healthy relationship between fashion and Earth. The second wave of COVID-19 has hit us, and it feels like 2020 all over again. In these times of distress, apart from staying safe and taking precautions for ourselves. We need to pay attention to the environment as well. Ahead of Earth Day, which is celebrated on April 22, fashion designers. And brands throw light on the various sustainable practices fashion designers/brands. Which have included at their respective workspace to help reduce waste. And hope for a day when fashion and earth can co-exist.

Work is worship only if we reduce waste’ – BARI India

Earth Day holds a special place not just in my heart but also at my workplace. I believe work can only be considered to be a worship place as long as we make sure we reduce the waste as much as possible

BARI India fa
NITISHA JAIN

Changes that matter: At BARI India, we try and incorporate the use of katrans (left over pieces of cloth) to create minimal wastage. For example, we use the katrans to entwine hangers to give that extra grip to hold the garments better. We also use leftover pieces to make the string of potli bags, and footwear. From stitching and using re-usable masks. Curtains made from block print fabric on the block printers table to creating mailboxes made from cardboard boxes for our workshop, we at BARI India ensure we make most of the waste.

‘Fashion and Earth can co-exist without hurting each other’ – Ridhi Mehra

RIDHI MEHRA fashion
RIDHI MEHRA

I treat every day as Earth day as each day is a new opportunity to be a responsible citizen. It is high time that the dialogue be changed from Fashion vs Earth to Fashion and Earth. And I am for the motion: Fashion and Earth can co- exist without hurting each other. Fashion may not always come to mind when one thinks of curbing climate change or helping Earth recuperate. But this dynamic industry, its scope and impact, makes a great tool in itself. Fashion and design hold immense promise when it comes to realising a sustainable future for the planet and its people.

Changes that matter: We have made sure to associate with manufacturers and fabric producers who prioritise decarbonizing material production and processing. We have gone paperless and all our operations are now digital. All our fabric sourcing is organic. We make sure to use high-quality, durable fabrics to craft an ensemble that lasts long, hence reducing unnecessary waste generation and promoting reusability.

‘Slow Fashion is the way forward’ – Roseroom

Earth Day marks as a reminder for us to pause and introspect about our impact on the planet. The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of the world’s annual carbon emissions. It’s also one of the most polluting, water-intensive, and waste-generating industries. Sustainable fashion is a movement which is fostering change to fashion products, leading to ethical fashion.

Which clearly states fashion and earth can co-exist. We, at Roseroom; believe in the concept of slow fashion and all our products are made keeping it in mind. Today, more than ever before, the environment has become the topmost priority for everyone. The textile and apparel industry is no exception and is playing its part in contributing to the current challenge the world is going through.

ISHA

Changes that matter: We, at Roseroom; refrain from using animal products and have created a conscious faux leather collection. We take initiatives to make the supply chain and production processes more sustainable, and also strive to lower the consumption of natural resources such as fuel for energy and water. The chemicals used are bio-degradable and non-hazardous.

‘Shift to conscious production and consumption to save planet Earth’ – Pink City

Each one of us have a responsibility to give back to our Mother Earth who has given us life on the planet we proudly call our home. Having said that, Earth Day is a time for us to evaluate our year-long efforts in reducing the carbon footprint. Fast fashion could be the death of our planet, if we do not take the issue in our hands and work towards a better tomorrow. By incorporating the tools of sustainability, in whatever way we can. So yes, Fashion and Earth can co-exist, only if we majorly shift to conscious production and consumption of every garment we create/consume. Not just as designers, but also as active consumers of fashion ourselves.

SARIKA KAKRANIA fashion
SARIKA KAKRANIA

Changes that matter: As a brand we say NO to mass production and YES to handmade. We do our best to generate employment and promote the rich Indian crafts like Bandhej, Leheria, Gharchola to name a few. Using handmade crafts ensures the use of machines in producing our garments is minimal. We also keep our production to the bare minimum, focusing on quality over quantity.

We make sure each garment we create, has a longer shelf life and can be worn in multiple ways to not only give value for money to our consumers, but also to provide them with utmost versatility with each piece of our ensembles.

‘Overstocking is a waste of precious resources’ – Artisan Luxe

Our mantra is “buy less but buy well”. And we encourage our customers to invest in good quality clothing that is not season or trend driven and can be worn in many ways across many seasons, hence encouraging them to relook at buying fast fashion.

Changes that matter: From our choice of fabrics, silhouettes to our manufacturing set up artisan luxe is a SEDEX certified socially compliant brand, which aims at being a sustainable and slow fashion brand. We only keep raw material inventory and make everything to order. We do not stock any clothes at all as overstocking is a waste of precious resources. The biggest difference between other silks and our high-performance silks is that artisan luxe garments can be hand-washed at home.

SNIGDHA SHEKHAR

Dry cleaning leaches toxic chemicals into the soil and ground water and as a brand aspiring towards sustainability, environmental pollution is a big area of concern for us. So, we have made sure that we don’t add to this by creating garments that need dry- cleaning. We don’t use any harmful chemicals in our dyeing. Or printing processes and all our fabrics are lab tested for the same. We use a waterless digital printing technology to print our fabrics.

‘Elimination of fast fashion can promote a healthy relationship between fashion and Earth’ – Vedika M

To us, Earth Day is a day to show support towards our precious home, to remind and reflect on ourselves to protect our Earth in any way we can, whether big or small. As this Earth Day rolls in, we are reminded once again that sustainability in the fashion industry has become the need of the hour. Fashion and Earth have to and can co-exist if sustainability.

And slow fashion comes into action immediately. Attention needs to be paid to the entire supply chain process in the industry. Customised clothing, reselling, reusing, sustainable production practices and elimination of fast fashion can promote a healthier relationship between fashion and Earth.

VEDIKA M SONTHALIA

Changes that matter: At Vedika M, we up-cycle our waste or excess fabric to make by-products such as pouches and accessories for daily use. In our printing factory, we have minimised the usage of water that goes into washing the fabrics. As well as, For our packaging, we send out our parcels in bags made out of leftover fabric instead of plastic packages.

We worship the motto reduce-reuse-recycle – Kunal Anil Tanna

I would want to interpret Earth Day as a chance to plan the next whole year to commit to make Earth a better and a happier place to live on.

Kunal Anil Tanna

Changes that matter: At Kunal Anil Tanna, we worship the motto reduce- reuse-recycle. Scrap reuse and recycle is something we practice diligently. Simultaenously, Season after season we incorporate scraps to rebuild new textures and structures, making it not only cost effective but also eco-friendly in our own small way.

‘It’s all about inclusivity, equality and loving our planet’ – Eurumme

I feel like it’s about time Earth Day is celebrating every single day. I mean, it’s the one thing that sustains us, sustains life. How can every day not be Earth Day? Fashion and Earth can absolutely co-exist but it’s a hard battle, and definitely one that cannot be fought alone.

EISHHITA PURI

Changes that matter: We at Eurumme, use recycled metal to make our jewellery. We have in the past used eco-friendly materials such as cardboard, twigs and leaves to make jewellery. We’re also actively pursuing a shift in our packaging and trying to eliminate the use of plastic altogether. We’re all about inclusivity, equality and loving our planet. Moreover I feel like that plays a significant role in building a positive environment, and aligning our values towards a greener, happier planet.

Music Director Raajiv Mitra

You got a break after 21 years.Tell us how does it feel?

Getting a break after 21 years- is a dream come true and definitely mixed feelings. The feeling is like when both tears and laughter come together. And along with this feeling, a realization dawned that, it took 21 years to debut in my first film project- now the road is uphill, miles to go, and loads of songs to make.

What made you not give up for so many years?

Passion, Patience, and Perseverance are the 3 ps that kept me going. They evoked in me the feeling of not giving up and an attitude of not letting the dreams die. My friends, family, audiences, and well-wishers kept me going. Tides came and tides went but after long 21 years, I reached somewhere called a shore.

What has been the best performance of your career so far?

As much as I can recall, my best performance was in Hojai, Assam, somewhere in the mid-90s. Hojai stadium was filled with thousands of people. My performance was after a huge Bombay Night, where singers like Abhijeet Bhattacharya were there to perform. Needless to say, I got a bit jittered- performing after so many big stars!!! But as destiny proposed, I had performed the best performance of my life, to date, in Hojai.

Are there any musicians who inspire you? What qualities do you admire about them?

Yes, there are so many and countless, but, if I have to take a pick, Salil Chowdhury had inspired me the most. Salil Chowdhury had a huge influence throughout the early days of my life. We grew up hearing his songs, gaanyer bodhu, palki, raanaar etc. His compositions reflect the perfect balance of melody, symphony, and storytelling. I really don’t know when my own work started getting inspired by his. But isn’t that the beauty of music….

What’s your process for dealing with performance anxiety?

Honestly, I didn’t have much performance anxiety. Stage and performance came naturally to me from childhood. But yes, now when I look back- I used to talk and talk to various people, mostly unknown in and around the stage- I think that’s what was my mechanism to cope up with performance anxiety…

Please tell us about your future projects?

I am working on some very interesting music videos and albums.

What about the Music of the Film?

The beauty of music in 7 Kadam is that it lends emotional weight to the story. I am glad that I had the opportunity of working with renowned singers like Shreya Ghoshal Javed Ali and Shafaqat Ali.  I am happy that finally my music is reaching out to people and they like it. As a music director, your audience is the jury and their appreciation makes me believe that all my efforts are in the right direction.

I tried to bring back the soulful music with my compositions. These days we are too used to techno and mechanical sound. The melancholy of a flute or the passion of saxophone is missing. I have grown up hearing the sound of nature. The world is full of melodies, and we have only managed to use very little.

I am glad that national awarded singer like Shreya Ghoshal worked with me. She is such a lovely human being, with wide vocal range and understanding of rhythm. While Javed Ali is gritty and earthy. His voice touches your soul and Shafaqat is equally talented with his genre. As a composer I am grateful to my artists for making it perfect with their magical touch.

The Trail of the Mountain Man, Nicholas Roerich

-Art in postcards and prints throughout the century (1902-2002)

Curated by Dr. Vladimir Zaitsev at “Art Konsult” Gallery.

Art Konsult is one of the premier art galleries located in the prime area of Hauz Khas, where Modernity meets history. It was established nearly three decades ago to promote Contemporary Art to the Indian and Global audience. Since its inception, our gallery has come a long way, not just moving ahead with time, but also constantly being an industry leader by participating in trends, and spotting talents. With more than 300 exhibitions organized till the date of various prominent artists, in-house and in institutions like NGMA, India Habitat Centre, and Indian Museum (Kolkata), Art Konsult has come a long way to building a world that is entirely dedicated to the art of all genres.

Exhibition on “The Trail of the Mountain Man, Nicholas Roerich” – Art in postcards and prints throughout the century(1902-2002)curated by Dr. Vladimir Zaitsev who presented these rare artifacts from his family’s collection.

The  Exhibition on Nicholas Roerich ’s postcards and prints talk about the time when postcards were the most widespread object of art among the people of diverse social groups in Russian Society. It is often said that during the 19th and 20th centuries, postcards were often called the “open letters” as they propagated the realities and emotions of life and people. Within the Russian group of Artists emerged an artist who through their work tried to reflect the need of preserving cultures that were losing with the tides of time and presented the harmonies of his interest in Archaeology, and music through his paintings. His postcards became an influential piece of learning for art historians as he dedicated them to the socio-political situations that were surrounding him like the first World War, the landscapes, and the cultural heritage that were on its edge of losing.

His “Banner of Peace”, “Sophia The Wisdom”, “Madonna Oriflamma”, and other paintings in postcards symbolized the past, present, and future which further led him in being the nominee of the Noble Peace Prize.

The  exhibition gets divided into his four series of postcards over the century which includes: –

★     The Russian Architecture

★     World War 1

★     The Banner of Peace

★     The Himalayas

The artist left a deep engraving on the minds of the art critiques and art historians in creating a real-life story of the society, through his prints and paintings in postcards that were existing during his time.

Message of Nicholas Roerich to the world and humanity may be put in his own words:

“IN BEAUTY WE ARE UNITED,

THROUGH BEAUTY WE PRAY,

WITH BEAUTY WE CONQUER.”

Do We Channel Our Crazy By Cushioning?

 By Shahzeen Shivdasani

Urban Dictionary defines the term “cushioning” as “a dating technique where, along with your main piece, you also have several ‘cushions;’ other people you’ll chat and flirt with to cushion the potential blow of your main breakup and not leave you alone.” So, basically as a generation, we are so afraid of getting hurt that having backups, who we are not interested in, serves as cushioning to the blow of possible heartbreak? People use this term in many ways. Let us look at the common two.

If you are in a relationship that doesn’t truly make you happy: One of the things people do in this situation is to have a person on the side who they treat as an option. Someone who makes them feel secure and happy. And, although they are not getting intimate with this person, this allows them to get their feel-good factor from outside their relationship. They can then go back to the person they love and probably get a good night’s sleep. Is that what relationships have now come to? Let’s stay in the bad relationship and find happiness elsewhere? Isn’t this what we call “emotional cheating?”

Beginning stages of dating: People are so excited about the new person in their life that they don’t want to show them any personality traits that could be considered negative. So, if you are the type of man/woman who anxiously waits by their phone or are eager to set up the next date or feel you may come off needy, then by the use of “cushioning,” you force yourself to go on other dates with someone you are not that interested in. The point is that it doesn’t matter where your daily feel-good dose is coming from, as long as it’s coming.

Yes, my friends, this is what dating has come to! However, what we fail to see is that by doing this, you are not really giving your relationship a fair chance. If you are unhappy, understand that the love you have built up in your head is now over. I know it is easier said than done, but living in denial is considered weak behavior. And, unfortunately, life is tough. Your strength is being tested, and the least you can do is try to come out on the other side. But, you have to try!
Also, as I repeatedly say, your feel-good factor has to come from within. We try everything possible in the dating world to get that one person we want.

However, we don’t do anything to work on ourselves. And, ironically, time and again, it always comes back to that one factor. Find other things in your life that make you happy. So that when something makes you unhappy, you know how to walk away.

Eventually, the person you date is going to get to know all of you. The relationship is either going to work out or not work out. Keeping someone else to cushion the blow of your own insecurities will leave you with having to deal with them.

At the end of the day, if we keep finding ways to not deal with our inner crazy, then how can we expect someone to be crazy about us?
