Mohini Sharma on Women’s day

What is the significance of Women’s day ?

The reason International Women’s day was established is so that there would be a global focus on different issues concerning women. As a society, it’s nice to men and children pampering the ladies in their life by cooking for them, planning an outing or getting gifts, which show their care and affection. For many years, women have been fighting the battle of getting even basic respect. They are often taken for granted and their contribution to the household or office is not acknowledged. With women’s day it is an opportunity to make them feel valued and important.

Do you think women’s are liberated in the modern scenario?

Women today are definitely more liberated than they were earlier. This change can especially be seen in urban India where women are successfully balancing their careers and family life. Not only are they keeping their identity and individualism alive but also nurturing the next generation to be high achieving adults. Mrs India Inc was founded with the intent of giving married women a platform to showcase the best version of themselves. Women have come a long way today and are taking India to the world.

What is Women empowerment and feminism ?

Women empowerment is about holding your own while helping others discover themselves. It’s about being the best version of your self. Every woman is a queen, whether she’s wearing a crown or not and that’s what true empowerment is.

Being fascinated by the occurrence of some past and present experiences. And memories going through into the inside world which may be real, unreal or imagery totally. But, when they get lost from this misty world and arrives outside into a new sphere, it absolutely, takes some new different identity. And make its own existence which completely would be minimal and abstract in every aspect. I find myself engrossed between the blurry boundaries of perception and experience. The choice of material in my practice as a result of intuition as I believe it is the essence of any raw emotion. In my work, I try to create a conversation between my spontaneous intuition and lost memory.

Ask Shahnaz Husain

Frequently asked questions answered by Shahnaz Husain

I have oily skin. Can I use astringent mixed with rose water?  Tell me how to use cleanser, toner, scrub and moisturizer. In which order should they be used?

If you have oily skin, you can wash the face with soap and then wipe with rose water and astringent lotion mixed in equal quantities. It would tone the skin, reduce oiliness and also complete the cleansing process. Buy a face wash for oily skin. Wash the face with it twice a day, morning and night. The cleanser should be used first, then astringent-toner and then moisturizer. Your moisturizer should be oil-free. Look for a day cream for oily skin. It would help to reduce the oily look. Scrubs suit oily skin. It may be used two or three times a week, after cleansing in the morning and before applying toner. Apply on face and rub gently on the skin with circular movements. Wash it off with water.

I am suffering from head lice. I comb with the lice comb, but the nits stick to the hair. Please suggest a remedy for this.

Neem Hair Oil

Apply apple cider vinegar on the hair and scalp. After an hour, comb with a fine lice comb and get the nits (eggs) taken out by hand. Vinegar loosens the nits and they are easier to remove. The nits must be taken out by hand. Then wash the hair with a mild herbal shampoo. After shampoo, add two tablespoons vinegar to a mug of water and use as a last rinse. Then comb again with the lice comb. Do this daily for one week.

I have hair growth on my upper lip.  I am afraid of using anything that may lead to excess growth. Please help me out.

Waxing at a beauty salon may help. Waxing is said to gradually lessen hair growth. Home remedies do not remove facial hair. But, they help to lessen facial hair growth if used regularly over a period of time. You may try any of the following remedies for discouraging facial hair growth. Make a thick paste of sugar, lemon juice and water and apply it in the direction of hair growth. Wash off when it dries. Apply it once or twice a week. Apply a paste of turmeric powder and milk and rub this on the skin with a circular motion. It is said to discourage facial hair, but it may leave a slight yellowish colour on the skin.
