Co-parenting and Covid-19

How parents can be mentally sound despite the chaos of the pandemic

By Preeti Kwatra

With the school closures and social distancing, parenting has taken on another importance. You might have started playing the roles included jobs as an in-home educator, chef, sports mentor, choreographer, and specialties guardian. You might be relied upon to shuffle these jobs for multiple children or to proceed with your activity from home simultaneously. The demands put on you may feel difficult to support, and your sentiments of weakness, dissatisfaction, and burnout legitimized.

For parents who are living separately and presently experiencing single parenting, the coronavirus pandemic includes another layer of unconventionality and calculated disorder in their lives. It might be that your child’s run of the timetable of pivoting between homes is hard to execute in this new condition of restricted travel and avoidance of public transportation. While families with shared care urged to follow parenting plans as initially outlined, changes might require for safety or comfort purposes during this concerned time. Consider the accompanying tips when moving toward co-parenting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

 Restrictions on Unnecessary Travel

It might be that your unique time-sharing timetable to your co-parent doesn’t limit travel time or the recurrence of moves of your child. For example-your child goes to parent A’s home for two days during the week and one day during the weekend, consider parting the week into two blocks of time that just one needs to happen. It will reduce transportation time and support your efforts to stay safe inside and submit to social distancing conventions. To help in monitoring your family plan, Google Calendar or comparative stages can be useful for outlining time-sharing and drop-off occasions in an outward manner. Such digital calendars can be effectively shared and printing out the schedule for your children can help with establishing them in via consistent and routine daily routine.

Finding the need to change your authority understanding? Adaptability will be essential during this developing time and distinguishing a practical and decent routine might be a higher priority than staying with a formerly settled upon the plan.

Which Parent will be in lead?

If one parent is working during this time, consider the other parent to go about as an essential guardian during this period to help with home-schooling efforts and to ease the physical and enthusiastic burden for the working parent. While this may cause an irregularity in time with the child, you might need to fair trade-off together—for example permitting the parent with less time with the child currently to procure back that time in the late spring or fall. Meanwhile, virtual calling stages, for example, Zoom, FaceTime, or Google Hangouts, can help parents in having quality time with their children from a far distance. If one co-parent has a quality in scholar academics, plan time for face to face or virtual help with that class content and take advantages of those abilities.

 Views on Social Distancing

With evolving suggestions from specialists around which exercises are sheltered or risky, you and your co-parent may not agree on your way to deal with the pandemic. Perhaps you feel high setting off to an isolated area to play. However, your partner focused on staying inside. Your child will benefit most from uniform informing and constant help with restricted clash. If one co-parent is feeling altogether increasingly on edge about the pandemic, it is fitting to notice their interests and locate a definite trade-off. Children explore the impacts of parental nervousness and can see nuances of guardians’ stressed signals and manner of speaking. It is imperative to approve reasonable concerns yet in addition to show a feeling of quiet, and that may include supporting your co-parent to all the more likely consideration for your children. It might be important to talk about the reasonability of different exercises during social distancing before they happen as opposed to responding to them sometime later.

A Peace of Mind and A Deep Breath

The pandemic and different movements in the calendar may drive increased conversation and interaction with your co-parent. The expectation of this may cause your blood pressure to rise or heartbeat to enliven. In what capacity can you as a parent oversee pressure and discover snapshots of unwinding during this stressed time? Consider the manners in which you have diminished worry preceding this time. Is it work out, preparing, creating, or conversing with a companion? Your physical gym centre might shut yet new virtual contributions are showing up consistently.

Keep Monsoon Blues at Bay

Monsoon Decor Tips

By Interior Designer Punam Kalra Creative Director of I’m the Centre for Applied Arts

The onset of the season is a great opportunity to declutter the home. Having furniture laid out close together absorbs moisture and habituates the growth of fungi and bacteria. This can be avoided by keeping the furniture spaced away from each other, from the wall and the windows. The demand then becomes for a careful maintenance and redecoration, rather than a complete renovation of the interiors. Polished or painted surfaces can be protected by avoiding damp cleaning clothes, choosing protective treatments and allowing a better ventilation. Replacing the heavy drapes with sheer or lace curtains bring in more natural lighting, lending an airy and spacious feel to the rooms. The perfect season to lounge in the cool breeze, it calls for a selection of outdoor furniture which is a healthy mix of floral and lush green planters, and protective bamboo or transparent blinds accentuates the terrace and balconies into a dreamy, relaxing spot.

An ideal monsoon interior would comprise of luxurious colors, textures, aromas and lighting. Luxurious furniture in natural, deep tones like blue, aqua and green, or chic patterns and neutral hues create a cozy yet captivating space. Assorted accessories in unique forms like lamps, vases and wall art, along with vibrant upholstery like cushions, throws and covers in citrus, tangerine and pink, further enhance the allure of the home.

An addition of contemporary accent pieces in raw textures, stoneware, ceramics and clayware add a certain sense of tranquility to the interiors. Perfumed candles, flowers and leafy plants bring in cheer and positivity. Introducing aesthetic, contemporary vases with gorgeous lilies, tulips, roses, and other ornamental flowers, adds a lush vibe to the home. Hibiscus and jasmine florets in Urlis, along with organic diffusers add a natural fragrance and freshness to the interiors.

Cozy reading and relaxing corners are a characteristic of this season. It starts with adding more warm and ambient lighting to these corners, with state-of-the-art floor or wall lamps to brighten up the entire room. A lazy chair, a chaise or a cushy sofa, with an ottoman or footstool and suave side tables, a stack of pillows, cozy pullovers in natural fabrics and modern rugs make a visually appealing and snug interior setting.

A play of sensory textures, art and serene pops of color, along with personal bits of decor, like family photos, botanical wall art, and wall hangings brought back from a vacation, add an extra-comfy touch to the lounging corner. A minimal storage cabinet, a built-in bookshelf, or a small home library with books stacked horizontally and vertically, paired with quirky accessories is all that’s required to finish off the perfect monsoon recluse nook.

The New Normal

Keeping Festive Spirit Alive during Covid-19

Festive season brings with it a spirit of celebration, joy, togetherness and spirituality.  Due to the current pandemic, there is certainly going to be a change this year on how the festivities are celebrated.

Keeping the spirits high and alive, there are some innovative ways, designers, artists and lifestyle brands are adopting to mark a joyful beginning to the festive season.

“Rakhi this year, will not be the same as always. With such a pandemic, nothing is as it was.
But we are gradually learning to accept and create a new normal. Even in these tough situations, we have made it feasible for our clients to send their brothers and sisters-in-law  beautiful rakhis & lumbas with roli chawal and a customised best wishes Handwritten card, everything completely sanitised. This will help them add a touch of their heartfelt wishes and gets them a sense of being closer to their loved ones. Even while not being physically together, We are helping them, pass on their love and best wishes in the best way possible” says Designer Tuhina Mehrotra, Filme Fashion.

“Covid 19 has confronted us to a very basic fear- the fear of unknown. For people who love to plan their life well in advance, this sense of unknown is indeed very disturbing. Standing today, we do not know, what might happen tomorrow-if we will ever get to celebrate the festive days like we used to do before with our loved ones, if we will meet our friends and family like before! But as a person, I am very positive. My whole purpose of becoming a Pranic Healer and a Painter was to spread happiness and positivity. Through my paintings, I have always used colours to spread happiness and positive vibes and even during these disturbing times, I continue to do so. Apart from this, I am also trying to help people who are in much worse situation than us by taking part in various online fundraiser exhibitions and involving myself with other CSR activities. I have always been involved in such activities and given the current situation our involvement should be even more. I believe in spreading smiles and happiness and I aim to do so during this time through my art”, says Artist Swati Pasari.

“The new normal for now is definitely safety. We must all take care of not just ourselves but also the people around us, to ensure safety, health and hygiene for the entire nation. Staying home, video calls, meditation and sharing our happiness is the new normal for me. Happiness should not be confined within our self, hence trying to help others who are in distress and spreading positivity should be the new normal for each one of us and most importantly, showing gratitude towards the almighty and the people around us who are working incessantly to keep us safe is something, we must all follow”, adds Swati.

Monsoon Hair Problems

By Shahnaz Husain

During the Monsoons, the look of the hair really suffers. This is more so with oily hair. Sweat and oil secretions attract dirt and pollutants, making the hair dull and matted. The salt in our sweat also makes the hair rough and robs it of body and shine. Hair loss is also common during the Monsoons.

Sticky dandruff is another problem to contend with. The scales, along with oil and sweat secretions, tend to stick to the scalp. For sticky dandruff, hot oil therapy is useful. Heat til oil or olive oil; apply it on the scalp with cotton wool, rubbing gently to dislodge the flakes. Then dip a towel in hot water, squeeze out the water and wrap the hot towel around the head, like a turban. Keep it on for 5 minutes. Repeat the hot towel wrap 3 or 4 times. Leave the oil on overnight. Next morning, apply the juice of a lemon on the scalp and wash your hair after 20 minutes. Avoid creamy conditioners.

You can also add 5 drops of Tea Tree Oil to a mug of water and use it as a last rinse. Or, add 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar and use it as a last rinse.

Shampoo the hair more frequently during the Monsoons. Use less shampoo and rinse well with water. Have a tea-water and lemon rinse for silky and shiny hair. Take used tea leaves and boil them again in 4 to 5 cups of water. The amount of water depends on the length of the hair. Strain and cool the water. Add the juice of a lemon and use as a final rinse after shampoo.

To add shine, you can also whisk egg white with the juice of a lemon and apply on the hair half an hour before your shampoo.

Another problem is that of bad odour from the scalp during the humid season. Wash your hair at least four times a week. Rinse thoroughly with water. For a fragrant hair rinse, add the juice of a lemon and half a cup of rose water to a mug of water and use as a last rinse after washing the hair.

The diet is very important. Ensure adequate protein in the diet. Have a small bowl of sprouts daily.  Add the juice of a lemon to a glass of water and have it first thing in the morning. Ask your doctor to prescribe vitamin and mineral supplements.
