Sound Healing Guided Meditation

Overcome your Fears & Anxieties

Dr Anju Sharma, a  Psychiatrist, Sound & Energy Master, Wellness-Holistic Coach, International Speaker and Founder of the Musical Healing Band – “Sound of Infinity”  organized a free online meditative workshop to treat Fear and Anxiety recently through a webinar.

Human emotions are unavoidable and fear is one of the most powerful emotions. It has a very strong impact on your mind and body. Our adrenal glands start flaring when something wrong or threatening or maybe something very important is going to happen. That feeling is called anxiousness. It is human’s nature to avoid situations that create such emotions. With the lockdown, many of the people are facing these emotions –Fear or Anxiety.

Fear and Anxiety are a cognitive state that can control other emotions, in short, the mind cannot regulate other emotions. Alcohol dependence, depression and various other conditions are strongly related to anxiety. Many people become so overwhelmed with these emotions that they try to avoid circumstances that make them fearful or anxious. This process continues in their lives and gradually it becomes hard to break the cycle. It is crucial to identify the symptoms of fear and anxiety and taking steps to manage the condition without any medical assistance. Through this meditation, she got everyone familiarize with anxiety-inducing thoughts and circumstances.

HOW IT HEALS

Many types of research have proved that a consistent meditation practice neutralize the pathways in the brain and, hence, improvise the ability to regulate other emotions. Meditation helps to focus. When done properly and regularly, meditation enables you to slow down and observe the world without judgment.

It gives the strength and wisdom to analyze and understand those thoughts/situations and gradually let them go. While doing so, one will learn an important aspect of our emotions that is thoughts do not define us. Meditation also helps in enhancing the skill of body awareness. It teaches us to focus on each body part and take our attention to any physical sensations felt at that moment.

Thanos A CGI villain who makes us ‘think’ and ‘feel’

Thanos is hands down one of the best comic book villains of all time. Everything about him is very intimidating from his stature to his voice. However, to some extent he is very humane and someone with whom we could sympathize with. In the comic books, the character has this weird motivation which was dubbed as ‘Obsession with Death’. The directors of Avengers Endgame, Russo brothers thought that this motivation was not impactful, mainly because there were elements of too much fantasy in there and the character of Lady Death had yet to be introduced.Catch the Mad Titan go against the Avengers for one last time on Star Movies on 17th May at 12 pm and 9 pm.

Actor Josh Brolin who portrayed the character, Thanos in Avengers Infinity War and Endgame, experimented a lot with the character to achieve the acclaimed depiction of the character on screen. In today’s time, CGI has gone on to become extremely realistic. Despite this, the actor had a very big challenge which was to portray an 8’3 tall formidable character with whom the audience could connect with sympathetically as well as fear!

Regarding the character, actor Josh Brolin stated “Earlier, we didn’t understand the nuances of the role. The Russo’s had the intentions and the relationship with Gamora, Nebula and all the other stuff but it wasn’t until we started experimenting that we realized that there was a character where we could invest and everyone could sympathize with. I think that’s the biggest thing.”

Fellow cast member Paul Rudd who portrayedAnt-Man in Avengers Endgame, stated “I think Thanos is a really complex and amazing antagonist. When I saw Infinity War, I was thinking that what he is saying has logic behind it. Sure! Maybe he is a psychopath but at his heart it is something you can sympathize with. I think Brolin does a great job at playing this powerful character. It’s a perfect casting. He just exhumes that strength and poise that Thanos possesses. When you got so many heroes fighting you got to be a formidable opponent which means you will be needing a formidable actor playing the character. Josh Brolin hit a home run with the character’s portrayal.”

Boosting Immune System

Encouraging Good Hygiene Practices in Kids

By Dr. Atish Laddad

Children are most vulnerable to fall prey to unwanted infections and viruses, courtesy their immature body immunity levels. It is important for parents and guardians to note that whenever kids are together, there is an amplified probability of spreading infections. This is particularly true in case of infants and toddlers who are most likely to make use of their hands while rubbing their noses or eyes and then use those infected hands to touch their toys or make contact with other children. Through these acts, the virus tends to spread to others as well. There is a great possibility for babies to fall ill in their initial stage of life since their bodies are still trying to build up their resistance to infections.

Teaching the basics of optimum personal hygiene in kids is extremely significant to keep them clean and in the pink of health. It’s particularly important for younger children to practice good hygiene, especially hand washing, owing to the fact that because they tend to spend so much of their time being in close contact with each other in the classroom, sharing everything right from their Tiffin boxes to desks and chairs to germs.

Kids often lack the appropriate knowledge or skills to take charge of their hygiene habits. Hence, parents must supervise and do the needful. The optimum way to make kids aware about hygiene is to start from a very early age itself, with simple yet effective practices being followed at home. Instilling healthy personal hygiene in younger kids is often a challenge for parents.

Leaf through the below mentioned guidelines which highlight on the significance of personal hygiene for kids and explain the ways by which parents can encourage children to be clean and healthy:

Up your child’s hand washing game: Teaching your children how to wash their hands is perhaps the most vital health and hygiene habit. Considering all the various objects and surfaces children tend to touch every day, washing hands without fail is undoubtedly one of the most exceptional ways to keep illnesses at bay and to avert the spread of germs. To amplify your hand washing, kids need to follow simple hand washing rules like always cleaning hands with a sanitised soap and clean water prior to touching or handling food, toys or any surfaces, rinsing and rubbing hands with soap for a good 20 minutes. Children must ensure they have washed their hands carefully so that there are no traces of soap left behind. They must make use of fresh water to clear the soap totally. Post your child’s hand washing ritual, make sure they are always making use of a clean cloth to wipe their hands and mouth.

Sing-Along Song: Children being the lazy little monsters that they are, just teaching about the importance of hand washing will not give parents the results that they wish to see. Instead parents can make this a fun learning session by making up a hand washing song with your little munchkins. You can sing as they scrub and rinse. Alter the tune or blend it up with diverse words every time. This can be followed while bathing as well.

Make Up A Game: While kids play, they usually have a bad habit of touching the surface with their fingers and eventually end up touching their faces with those unwashed fingers. This episode has a great possibility of spreading unwanted germs and infections leading to cold, cough or eye infections.  One way for parents to avoid this is to come up with a challenge to witness who can keep their fingers off their face for the lengthiest duration of time. Reward your child if he or she is successful in keeping fingers away from touching the face.

Anti-Germ Superheroes: This is a fun and innovative way wherein parents can encourage kids to develop a good hygiene. Get your kids to make a face and cover their mouths every time they sneeze or cough. Make them imagine that they are superheroes who are out on an expedition to discontinue germs from spreading. Let them try the ‘Dracula’ where-in they should cough or sneeze into the crook of their elbow rather than into their hands.

Own a colour while munching: When you are making your child understand about food hygiene, you must start with the basics – discuss with them about the harmful impacts of germs and bacteria. Tell them how rapidly bacteria’s can spread from their dirty and unwashed hands to the food and into the mouth or nose. Kids unknowingly tend to pass on germs and bacteria while they share tiffin boxes and sip over the same drinks. Parents can take steps to safeguard kid’s food hygiene right at home itself. Make it a rule that every member in the family is making use of their own cups and utensils. This is an effective way to curb the transmission of infections. Parents must ask the children to pick a plate, cup and utensil in their most preferred shade, and ensure this remains their permanent colour while eating.

Fun while flossing and brushing: Parents usually complain about children evading from maintaining good oral hygiene. Fret not, make your child’s oral routine fun with some innovating techniques. Make use of egg cartons to create a giant tooth model and paint it in the colour of your enamels. By putting play-dough chunks in between each tooth allow your kids to experiment their flossing and brushing skills. Ensure you are getting your child into the habit of flossing and brushing their teeth, brushing their tongues, the insides of the cheeks and the upper portion of the mouth. Dental hygiene is extremely important because an unclean mouth can lead to bad odour and can further lead to cavities, which can be evaded when kids follow good dental cleanliness. Ensure your little munchkin is brushing his or her teeth twice daily, and is cleaning even the nooks and corners of the mouth properly. They must rinse their mouths with water post eating meals and simple measures like gargling can also be very effective in keeping germs at bay.

Training your kid’s good hygiene habits from a very young age is remarkably vital in your child’s overall growth and development. To make sure that kids adopt independent personal hygiene habits, parents must lead by being an example since the child emulates a parent’s behaviour patterns. Through a little more focused effort on our side, we can surely keep our kids restored and completely immune to infection.

Men Prefer Animated Explainers to Consume News

An Insight

Men prefer to consume animated videos on YouTube when it comes to explainers, news and concept-based content, according to a recent analysis of YouTube viewership patterns by a news channel on the platform.

The channel, Bisbo, shared this insight based on the spike in viewership it has seen during the nationwide lockdown.

The locked-in audience has migrated to digital media, seeking news, entertainment and distraction. Currently, in India we have 531 million subscribers across 35 OTT channels in India, alongside a substantial increase in user base for social media, online and mobile games.

YouTube is also benefitting from this – with 265 million active users consuming the ever-increasing library of videos here. Bisbo, a YouTube channel for animated news explainers and videos in several Indian languages, saw this surge among its audience too and was able to cull specific insights about their viewership patterns.

“In the last two months, the viewership for our channel has nearly doubled. We have risen from a watch time of 25 million minutes per month to 50 million. We will reach 60-75 million minutes if the lockdown continues till the end of May”, shared Shakir Ebrahim, Founder of Bisbo.

This surge translates to subscribers too – from 50,000 new subscribers per month to 150,000 subscribers by the month-end.

Ebrahim shared how there is a specific demand for complex conceptual content like business news, among other high-profile events. “Our most-watched content has included stories on the Ambanis, Tatas, Ranbaxy & The Carlos Ghosn saga. Dramatic news videos on J&K operative Davinder Singh and Princess Haya’s escape are another genre catching their attention”, he added.

Typically, they demand all kinds of news, especially news that mainstream media covers for a bit and then discards as new stories get their attention.
