Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival 2020

29th Year of Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival 2020 was launched with its first concert yesterday at Siri Fort Auditorium, New Delhi.  It will be followed by Hyderabad on 6th January, Pune on 8th January, Bangalore on 15th January with Flamenco Dance performance and the festival will culminate on 16th January in Chennai with an Indian Classical Concert.

LGMF was started in 1992 by Viji and Dr. L. Subramaniam in the memory of his father, mentor and guru Prof.V. Lakshminarayana. This year’s LGMF is a musical tribute to Mahatma Gandhi to celebrate his 150th birth year and it was a great success. LGMF  helps to preserve and nurture Indian classical music for posterity. LGMF through global collaborations have taken special initiatives to inspire future generations of musicians to gain knowledge of different genre of music.

The Lakshminarayana Global Music Festival is an opportunity for the future generations to learn from maestros from around the world.

Lakshminarayana Global Centre of Excellence (LGCE), was started by Dr. L. Subramaniam and Kavita Krishnamurti to bridge the gap between Gurukul and University education system, giving global exposure to undergraduate and graduate students with special focus on practical aspect of their music speciality, LGCE will give importance to performance training as much as theoretical education.

Schott Music – the leading publisher for classical and contemporary music, has published many of the orchestral composition written for the festival by Dr. L Subramaniam.

Subramaniam Academy of Performing Arts (SaPa), founded by Dr. L. Subramaniam and Kavita Krishnamurti Subramaniam in 2007. It was their dream to create a home for global music in India.

SaPa is headed by Bindu and Ambi Subramainam and is imparting music education to more than 30,000 children in various schools of the country. Since it’s inception, SaPa has been focused on nurturing the next generation of performers and creating global musical exchanges and dialogues.

Prof.V. Lakshminarayana believed that a person who wasn’t involved in some form of culture was never truly complete.

Dr. L. Subramaniam, Kavita Krishnamurti and Symphony Orchestra of Castile and Leon from Spain performed the following in concert:

  2. Spring Rhapsody(Orchestra solo)- Composed by Dr. L. Subramaniam

Spring Rhapsody is a composition based on different South Indian classical ragas and changing rhythmic cycles, derived from South Indian tala systems. The harmony, which is used, is derived from the ragas, which enhances the Indian flavour and mood. This composition was commissioned by New England Conservatory and is dedicated to J. S. Bach. It is written for Woodswinds (Flute, Oboe and Clarinet) and strings. Its in three movements- Rubato, Rubato expressivo and Allegro.

Movement one Rubato starts with Flute solo section, sounding like improvisation going into the rhythmic section and there are trade-offs between different Orchestral instruments ending with a rhythmic motif repeated three times. The second movement Rubato expressivostarts in time signature 5/ 4 changing to 4/ 4, 3/ 4 etc. bringing in a serene mood. Third movement Allegro starts with changing time signatures and goes into a trade-off section between the woodwinds and the motif gets shorter leading to the recapitulation of the main theme. This piece is also classical contemporary composition based on Indian and western classical music using raga based harmony and complex rhythmic structure. Published by Schott Music International.

Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram (Ram Dhun) is a notable bhajan (devotional song) that was widely popularised by Mahatma Gandhi

  1. Vaishnava Jana To(Orchestra & Kavita Krishnamurti)

Vaishnava Jana To, a bhajan was sung by Kavita ji. The poet Narsinh Mehta in the Gujarati language wrote this bhajan in the 15th century. This song became popular during the lifetime of Mahatma Gandhi and was rendered as bhajan in his Sabarmati Ashram by vocalists and instrumentalists like Gotuvadyam Narayana Iyengar. The poem speaks about the life, ideals and mentality of a Vaishnava Jana (a follower of Vishnu). It was popular among freedom fighters throughout India.

  1. Nadapriya  (Orchestra & Dr. Subramaniam)

Nada Priya is a composition composed by Dr L. Subramaniam for Violin solo, Indian Percussion, Woodwinds and Strings. The composition is based on raga Harmony and the first moment starts with time signature 7,8 alternating 3,4 changing to 6,8 and 12,8 making it rhythmically interesting. First moment was based on Kanakangi, first of the 72 parent scales in South Indian classical music. Second moment started with viola section playing the theme based on 14th parent scale Vakulabharanam, and it created the impression of improvisation. This was further developed by the violin soloist and in the end the entire orchestra joined in the mainstream. Here once again there were different time signatures incorporated in the section.

The third moment was based on derived scale raga Shuddha Saveri of South Indian Classical music (Carnatic music) with quick change in time signatures. The cadenza which is improvised by the violin soloist followings which there’s a trade-off section between orchestra and violin soloists staring 3 notes per beat increasing in steps to 4,5,6,7 notes per beat. The performance ended with a rhythmic cadence. Published by Schott Music International.

The Regional Government of Castile and Leon formed the Symphony Orchestra of Castile and Leon from Spain in 1991. During the last two and a half decades, the Castile and Leon Orchestra has performed in hundreds of concerts together with a wide list of artists.

STEPHANIE ARPELS

Stéphanie Arpels, a self-taught artist, has been painting since she was a teenager. She worked with women for many years, and the passion she felt for their fragilities, strengths and complexities, soon transpired in her paintings. In 2018, she received an award by the Ministry of Women and Child Development on the occasion of the International Women’s Day for excellence in the field of art.

Stéphanie  Arpels recently held her solo exhibition titled WOMEN PASSING at the Visual Arts Gallery, India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. H.E. Mr Emmanuel Lenain, Ambassador of France to India, inaugurated the show. She interpreted women resting, squatting, dancing, walking, dreaming, and passing in landscapes.” I observe the inner beauty of women, suspended in time and space, where they can embrace their future destinations. I set my women in other worlds where they appear in different sizes, whether they are in the foreground or the background. They vanish in my landscapes and on the paths that I paint always larger, to immerse them in the unknown; an imagined paradise, a serenity.
In some of my canvases, my Indian women take flight on their way to reincarnation, a rebirth towards another body and a better life,” she shares.

 Her Journey

”Women’s status has been my concern for the longest time. I am passionate about women and their fragilities, their strengths and their complexities.  From a young age, I have been attracted to painting and fine art. I began painting as a teenager. Adolescence is an essential and complicated time, and I often felt I wasn’t understood. The journey from child to teenager to adult created a kind of vertigo.”

Inspiration

“Relocating to India in 2015 has impacted my work a lot. I am moved by what I see and feel. The vastness of the country challenges me to show the diversity and contrasts among Indian women. Their gaiety, their laughter, their energy, even in dire situations, is striking and awe me; and interpret this in my art. An inner spiritual awakening is taking over my work on Indian women.”

Art-A Healing Process

“My work focuses on representing the inner beauty of women. It is also a healing process where I find a lot of my energy that helps me live with a life-altering disease. Coming to the realization that existence hangs only by a thread, I have dedicated my work to subliming women. My art represents the dimensions I perceive in the life of the women.
Where are they going? What will become of them?
I wonder about the present and the future, about that which can be seen, and also the unknown.”

Color Canvas

“I use saturated black red and blue colors to unveil the sensuality of the curve of women’s bodies, but also love, anger, power, life, evoking what I witness daily.

Feeling that gold is essential in women lives, as an intrinsic part of their social tradition, religion, rituals and superstitions, it is present insome of my canvases.

Colors that I apply in my landscapes are essential for me too. Blue is for nature and infinity. It symbolizes peace, calm, serenity. White represents purity and paradise. Brown is for nature and earth. Green is for nature, stability, energy. Taupe is a color that travels through time. I feel it is timeless. Shades of white and beige, and darker colors invade my canvases, translating the contrasts of different worlds. Lastly, I use grey and black to illustrate my distress towards the unknown, the emptiness, and death.”

CREATING HARMONIOUS ENVIRONMENT THAT WOULD CULTIVATE LOVE

Love is the nectar of life and every individual seeks the same to enrich their lives and strengthen their relationships. Vastushastra, the ancient Vedic science of spaces, can be actually used to create a stress-free and harmonious environment that would cultivate love and enhance compatibility in a relationship, especially in your married lives. If implemented correctly under the tutelage of a Vastu Expert, it can make your love life gather huge benefits by creating a balanced environment around your living and working space.

Here are some useful Vastu tips to brighten your love life

  •  For happy marital life clarity of thoughts among the partners are most important that can be ensured through blue or purple colour in the North-East region along with maximum open and lightweight space.
  •    Secondly, the existence of fire element (kitchen) in South-East makes the female partner physically and mentally stable. There should an orange colour in this direction. In short, it is termed as female power centre of Vastu which is highly essential for a happy and romantic life.
  •  Thirdly, presence of master bedroom in South-West, balances the male power centre to establish the best chemistry between the two. Stability along with decision making with implementation leading to leadership and dominance is highly appreciated by females.

  •  Metal beds should be avoided as it tends to disturb sleep and create tensions among partners. There should one single or queen size bed. One should strictly avoid two beds or mattresses joined together.
  •      The colour used on the walls should be light and soothing and the ambience appealing, preferably pink or peach colour in South-West bedroom.
  •    Ideally, the wife should sleep in the left of her husband for a loving and smooth relation.
  • A mirror directly facing the bed should be avoided. The larger the mirror, the greater the chance of strain in the marital relationship. Also causing health problems, lack of energy or drowsiness. Hence mirrors in the bedroom should be avoided or covered.
  •     One should make sure that the North-East corner of the room is not cluttered in any way. Indoor plants, white flowers in the North corner and purple or red roses in the South-West corner helps in improving the relationship.
  •  Pink or Red colour in the bedroom such as light, red quilts, drapes etc…can be also used for a momentary period.
  •   Extensive use of electrical  gadgets should be avoided in the bedroom as they distract relationships by creating stress and tension.
  •  Computers and TV are not advisable in the room. But it is actually a hazard of modern lifestyle. These should be at least covered with a cloth while sleeping in the night.
  •    Bedroom should be clean and clutter-free for the inflow of unending love and positivity.
  •   Normally bed mattress should not be divided in a double bed. It enhances marital harmony.
  •  Keep the head side of the bed in the South direction.
  •  The bed should not be placed between two doors or in front of the door.
  •  Keep the bedroom well lit with natural light and illuminated for unflinching love and charm as dark and bleak rooms can spread negativity in your married life.
  • For maintaining a prosperous love life, make sure there are no “single identity” decoration pieces in the room, such as a single duck or a single butterfly. Keep them in two’s symbolic of love. In other words, a pair of doves, love birds, or ideal couples like Laxmi- Narayan are preferable.
  •     Deity idols, as well as photos of departed souls, should strictly be avoided in the bedroom.
  •  Family photo in South-West and couple photo in West direction is highly recommended.
  •    Strictly avoid  master bedroom in North-East, South-East, North-West.
  • One should strictly avoid pictures or portraits depicting violence, sadness, stormy situations or anything that portray the negative side of life.If your bedroom is not able to match with any of the guidelines given above, or if it is highly impossible to have master bedroom in South-West, do not get panicked, solutions are possible. If anything is going against your wish and efforts, if the chemistry or the harmony gets disturbed frequently, or making life miserable or leading to danger zone of dissatisfaction or divorce, one must think of corrective actions on priority. Having said, true love is not a thing to create artificially, you need to be positive about your dreams and wishes. Positivity if coupled with positive energy from nature can make our love and life highly successful and blessed.

The event took place at her Star Academy, Delhi NCR branch. Along with Aashmeen the students of her make-up academy were also present in the wide celebration of Make-up & Hair.

The special bridal show revealed the different looks of the wedding season, including classy, Victorian, Mughlai, Rajwada and Sabyasachi inspired looks. The event also witnessed the convocation ceremony for the students along with expert classes on social media marketing and digital marketing. Whereas, on the special bridal show Aashmeen Munjaal revealed some special Vanity box tips for brides onthis wedding season. She stated, “No matter its professional vanity or personal, first thing you should keep in mind is your age. Always choose make-up products and colours according your age and complexion. Secondly, if you are changing your environment, like visiting Kerala, Kashmir or abroad, do set your vanity as per weather too.” Further she added, “Not only make-up products but skin care products should also be there in your vanity including sunscreen, make-up remover, cotton pads, skin moisturiser. CTM is very much compulsory, even primer too. You can also keep hair pieces or hair pins, bob pins and accessories. One of the best thing you should also put is roll on deodorant. In emergency you also need shaver, so do keep razor or hair removal cream as well. Don’t forget to keep neutral colour nail paint, which you can require anytime.

Talking on make-up in vanity she told, “CTM is compulsory, that is cleanser toner moisturizer, you can also keep BB cream.

You can also decrease products as per your skin type, even while preparing your base, keep foundation according to your dry, oily and any other skin. For oily skin, its liquid base, gel base, powder base, cream base. Also keep setting powder to set your foundation. For putting these things in series, do use appropriate brushes. You can use Dettol spray or sterilizing spray to stabilize these brushes, for keeping yourself away from infections. For eyebrow shaping keep eyebrow brush, eyebrow color, eye shadow, mascara, kajal, your blush on kit, contouring kit. Nowadays highlighter is so much in, so do take care which brand you are using according to your skin. For lips, keep lip liners, lip shiner. Do keep basic bindis. These are the few essentials for your vanity. Even for small kits you can keep coloured kajal, long lasting Lipper along with blending sponge. And other make-up essentials should be in your elaborated kit.”
