The Simba and Kanika Goyal Collaboration

A roaring high-spirited show 

 ‘Paus(e)itive’ by Kanika Goyal presented by Simba was filled with various refreshing energetic high-octane elements. A juxtaposition of unexpected ideas formed a perfectly blended fashion cocktail that made one look twice!

 Inspiration

 Constant use of technology in the fast-paced world, the designer showcased the positivity of taking a pause for relaxation and self-care.

 Highlights

To display the concept, a presentation of the glitch effect in technology played on the sides flashing logos of Simba and Kanika Goyal. The ramp with CRT television screens were scattered with some displaying a grainy screen.

Shade Card

Neutrals and earthy hues were the key tones, with an addition of subtle pinks and blues for colour. In stark contrast were saturated red and yellow as accent shades. Multicoloured metallics added the dramatic look in the creatively colour-blocked collection.

Fabric Story

Suiting, stretch jerseys and denim.

Key Elements

Sportswear and tailoring influences used for structured garments with a street and casual wear vibe.  Surfaces filled with mixtures of organic structures, geometry in the form of prints

Placement hand embroidery  on some of the garments.

Curves in colour-blocking, an abundance of zips, big buttons and cut-out patches pulled the looks together.

Typography with graphics of computer icons like ‘feelings.zip’, ‘I’m not a robot’ and ‘establishing a connection’  resonated with the young crowd.

CELEBS STOPPING THE SHOW

  • Ayushmann Khurrana and Disha Patani for Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna

Making a show stopping entry for designers Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna was the elegant Disha Patani who looked stunning in a gunmetal long-sleeved, plunged ‘V’ neck, high slit slinky gown.

Keeping her company on the ramp was the very debonair Ayushman Khorana in a black double-breasted, one-button, knee-length coat with embroidered sleeve and shoulder interest, teamed with a buttoned-down collar shirt and slim pants.

  • Ananya Pandey for Anushree Reddy and Arpita Mehta

Making her runway debut was the dainty, spritely Ananya Pandey, walking in a glittering ivory lehenga, choli and dupatta to peppy music for Ananya Pandey.

The young actress made a show stopping entrance again for Arpita Mehta in a glowing, fuchsia, lehenga combined with a strappy choli that dazzled with zardosi work.

  • Rhea Chakraborty for Ambika Lal

The beautiful Rhea Chakraborty walked for Ambika Lal in a black, embellished corset with a sweetheart neckline and layered ruffled trail that stole the limelight.

  • Himanshu Verma for Gaurika Sharma

Himanshu Verma strutted the ramp for Gaurika Sharma, in a black kurta teamed with an embellished dupatta draped like a sari and a golden blazer, that set a modern trend.

  • Shibani Dandekar for Bandana Narula

The gorgeous Shibani Dandekar stopped the show in a sensuous, floral, corset with a chevron design lehenga for Bandana Narula.

  • Adah Sharma for Pinkey Agarwal

For a show stopping entry was the beautiful TV actor, Adah Sharma in an embellished tube blouse, zardosi embroidered dupatta and layered skirt, while the gigantic headgear and hot pink wig created a wow factor.

NEXA Presented Surreal Interstellar Collection By Rohit Gandhi & Rahul Khanna

“Interstellar” collection by Rohit Gandhi and Rahul Khanna presented by NEXA comprises dresses, gowns, wrap slim skirts, halters, high slit dresses, plunged neckline fringed mini sheaths,gowns etc.Men’s wear featured jackets with discreet shimmer and some innovative construction. Corded jackets with kurtas, waist coats, jumpsuits with extended shoulders, short one- lapel jacket, and long line jackets were unconventional.

Shade Card

NEXA colours of black and white with tones of grey, platinum and Gunmetal formed the basis of the line along with the statement-making signature NEXA Blue. Always ensuring that the fabric choice was lush and opulent there were plush satins, frosty silks, sheer tulles and suiting organzas that brought grandeur to the ensembles.

Design Elements

The metallic indications were apparent for the graceful silhouettes that came alive with hints of luminous touches and a blend of shadow features.

Geometric patterns made a strong impact as beading brought luxurious embellishments.

Swirling, fluid silhouettes made a fashion statement with sheer fabrics, transparent sequins, crystals and fringe detailing.

Fringes as the prime detail in women’s wear.

 Disha Patani wore a gunmetal long-sleeved, plunged ‘V’ neck, high slit slinky gown.

Narendra Kumar’s collection at Lakmé Fashion Week

NARENDRA KUMAR MADE A FASHIONABLE SOCIAL STATEMENT 

 Narendra Kumar’s show was a serious food-for-thought presentation about the current socio-political environment of the world, and the clothes will have a lasting impact with the message of inclusivity and diversity.

 “Stranger Noises” by FKNS was the fourth instalment of this protesting label’s fashion series.

FKNS for Narendra means ‘Fake News’, which has troubled the designer for several seasons and he hoped that each collection in this series would hit the right mark.

INSPIRATION

Inspired by the social events in the world “Stranger Noises”, was a line of conflicting and contrasting creative ideas that reflected the mood of the atmosphere that the world is surrounded in.

Shade Card

 Soft pastels of pink, blue and green

Design Elements

Interesting placement embroidery. The tailored suits were a stylish addition, while the mesh and knitwear completed the look of the range.

Highlights

Monochrome sportswear strip detail with the branding of ‘FKNS Mumbai’ written all over.

Graffiti letters of words like ‘diversity’, ‘hate’, ‘love’, ‘racism’, ‘beauty’, ‘walls’, ‘inclusive’ and more made an appearance on several garments in the form of digital prints and a bit of sequin embroidery..

 The same words were also painted on the faces of some of the models’ faces and shoes.

Surprise Element

A woman in a pastel green embroidered sari and hoodie who had been sitting near the runway with her back facing the audience was the subject of Narendra’s spray-painting key words of his collection on the pallav of her sari.

Showstopper

 Narendra’s  86-year-old mother, Mrs. Lakshmi Ahmed who read quotes from Maya Angelou’s work to thunderous applause.

‘Questions No One Asks’

The Voice Of Fashion Panel Discussion

There are always many exciting and informative discussions at Lakmé Fashion Week. At The Studio during Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2019 ‘The Voice of Fashion’ the well-known and eagerly followed digital fashion magazine brought the live version of its interview format “Questions No One Asks”. The session was a lively interaction and exchange of ideas between the panellists and media on questions that are rarely asked.

It was a fashion event of its own kind as five pioneers of the Indian fashion industry came together on one platform seen together for the very first time. Moderating the discussion very professionally was Shefalee Vasudev, Editor, ‘The Voice of Fashion’ with panellists Wendell Rodricks, Rajesh Pratap Singh, Rohit Bal, Shahab Durazi and David Abraham who frankly answered the questions from Shefalee and the audience. This was Shahab Durazi’s first ever presence on a panel in the 31 years of his career.

The panel spoke on sponsorships, pressures of bringing in showstoppers, glamour, double speak, plagiarism, Bollywood influence, politics and innovation.

Questions on the profileration of fashion designers despite mediocre work, what is bad fashion, whether social media is the new mafia in settling plagiarism issues brought responses from Rohit Bal and Shahab Durazi. The importance of PR firms too was debated.Most panellists said they didn’t believe in having one but preferred that their work to do the talking. When it came to the question of balance between Bollywood showstoppers and fashion, many panellists felt that the most important thing on the ramp should be the clothes and the designers. Some of the other questions revolved around media responsibility and plagiarism.

Questions from the audience to the panellists were on appropriating tribal designs and craft, biodegradable packaging, designers losing their identity in lieu of making money.

The final rapid-fire round restricted to ‘yes’ and ‘no’ from the designers, were questions on need for an independent designer fund, scholarships for young designers, was the word ‘sustainability’ exploited and if there was the need to rethink the fashion industry after 20 years.

Mrunal Thakur glided the runway wearing a luxurious ivory lehenga with a long-sleeved peplum blouse with gold motifs for designer Alka for her label Aavanran Udaipur.

Bollywood star Malavika Mohanan sailed down the ramp in a printed sari with an extremely detailed blouse for designer Padmaja.

Athiya Shetty looked elegant as she walked for Abraham & Thakore, wearing a black/white, broad, striped sari with a frilled edge and a matching choli.

“Divine Intervention”, a show exhibiting aesthetic depictions of Lord Krishna at Art Spice Gallery

On the occasion of Janmashtami, Art Spice gallery showcased an soulful art show, “Divine Intervention unveiling contemporary depictions of Lord Krishna in various Avatars along with other captivating paintings and sculptures. The exhibition gave rare access of artworks by two outstanding creators from the artist G. Subramanian and leading-artist    P. Gnana. Curated by Vidhya Gnana Gouresan, “Divine Intervention” took everyone on a spectacular visual journey between “master and Creator”, cherishing their devotion to the sublime.

The show was inaugurated by H.E. Mr. Daniel Chuburu, The Ambassador of the Argentine Republic to India.

Over finest drinks and hors d’oeuvres, the incandescent event at the capital was attended by celebrated artists like Manisha Gawade, Neeraj Gupta and Ruchi Chadha, gallery owner Mr. Saurabh Singhvi, high profile diplomats like Carlos Humberto Muscari (Embassy of Argentina), HE Pham Sanh Chau (Ambassador of Vietnam), Roman Masarik (Embassy of the Czech Republic), Ricardo A. Perky, peppy, Tara Sutaria, the talented star on the Bollywood horizon brought the Label Ritu Kumar show to a close as she strutted down with great aplomb in a black, embroidered, halter, mini pinafore over a white shirt, accessorized with an exciting leather belt with floor kissing long beaded strands.

The beautiful and statuesque Diana Penty, walked the ramp for Ridhi Mehra in an intricately, embroidered, ivory dazzling sequined lehenga, sheer striped blouse and dupatta with beads, captivated the audience.

The gorgeous Pooja Hegde walked for Jayanti Reddy, in a heavily embellished purple scalloped hem lehenga and dupatta, while the tasseled plunging neckline of the choli was visually stunning.

The Caprese x Nachiket Barve show had Bollywood star Rakul Preet Singh strutting down the ramp in a glittering, black, jumpsuit under a long net robe with fringed long sleeves.
