His Anthem “Bharat Jeetega – Corona Harega”, showcases how India has always emerged victorious through all the tough situations in the past and proves that If we unite and fight as one, very soon we will win this fight against corona virus.
“These are really dark and unprecedented times for the country, we are fighting a war against Corona Virus and every Indian on this planet is working hard to get through this pandemic. I have created this song to uplift their spirits and to tell them that if we fight as one, we will definitely win! ” says Shailendra Singh, who has also written and co-composed the song.
The anthem has been sung by Nakash Aziz, a renowned Indian composer and singer having worked with Grammy Award winner, AR Rahman for films like Highway, Rockstar, and Delhi 6 etc and composed by talented young composer, Anjana Ankur Singh. The anthem is released on Facebook and YouTube and will be available very soon on all leading music streaming platforms.
Earlier in 2019, Singh also created ONE INDIA MY INDIA anthem4good,which he co-created with composer, Mithoon and released on 23 April 2019. Since its release it has won the hearts of the nation, garnering over 10 million views and over 50 million impressions and been featured on CNN/ Kapil Sharma Show (SONY)/ Dance India Dance (ZEE)/ Times Now/many more and features superstar Sukhwinder Singh/ Jubin Nautiyal and Godswill.
According to Psychcentral.com self care is “any activity that we do deliberately in order to take care of our mental, emotional, and physical health.” Common examples of self care are things like exercising, eating well or meditating, leisure activities. The concept of self-care itself is very subjective in nature. It is equally vital to understand what self-care isn’t. The most crucial thing about self care is that it must feel good to you. Self care can have a different perspective for everyone, and that’s okay. At its core, it means to do something that one thoroughly enjoys and not something that we force ourselves to do. Dr Agnes Wainman, a clinical psychologist, explains, self-care is “something that refuels us, rather than takes from us.” With the ongoing covid-19 crises, it becomes more important than ever that one takes out some time daily from his/her schedule to practice self-care.
Its OK if your self-care looks different from theirs
With the hubbub around the concept on all kinds of social media platforms, the idea of self-care has been romanticized and glorified to a massive extent. It’s important to have an understanding of the concept and that it revolves around oneself. Self-care is investing in yourself. It is about making yourself a priority while being in touch with your emotions. Self care is what one does to release distress. One shouldn’t feel guilty or selfish for indulging in some “me time”. It is important to remind ourselves time and again that self-care isn’t necessarily a cake walk contrary to what is often depicted on social media and movies. It can be a tremendously heavy process for some as each individual is unique in their ways of expressing and dealing with distress.
No journey of any individual can be put for comparison as it takes an immense amount of effort and energy for someone to arrive at where they want to be.
Tips to practice self-care
Some of the ways in which one can practice self care is through-
● Meditating – meditation activates awareness and attention, quieting your mind.
● Practicing gratitude – a daily thank you note to yourself will open doorways to abundance.
● Seeking help and support – There is nothing more human than acknowledging your emotions and asking for help and support in times of need. Helping yourself by asking for help is an act of self care.
● Indulging in leisure activities – Any activity such as dancing, painting, cooking, exercising or reading a book can act as a way of self care. Do what makes you happy and not what others wish you to do.
● Journaling – Daily journaling can release the pent up emotions and thoughts. This helps in better understanding and releasing of self-judgement.

Ankur Jain (CS ’03), founder of Bira 91, shared his experience translating his computer science education. At Chicago’s tech university to the world of international craft brewing
Illinois Institute of Technology (Illinois Tech),Chicago, hosted its 152nd Commencement Ceremony virtually on May 15, 2021. Ankur Jain, (CS ’03), founder of India’s craft brewery, Bira 91, discussed his experience translating the innovative problem-solving. And entrepreneurship skills he developed at Illinois Tech to the world of international brewing.
Drawing inspiration from his exposure to jazz, contemporary art, and craft beer during his time at Illinois Tech, Jain launched Bira 91 in 2008. Named in reference to India’s country code (91). Bira 91 launched its first original beers in 2015, and quickly became an international sensation. The company now has 500 employees, four brewing facilities and present in 14 countries.
Jain first came to Illinois Tech from New Delhi to study computer science and architecture, inspired by his father, who was an architect and an admirer of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, who designed Illinois Tech’s Bronzeville campus.

The university is so much stronger with a keen sense of purpose. And the resources to execute on its ambition because of your guidance and leadership.”
“Had it not been for Illinois Tech, I wouldn’t have had the confidence to be flexible. To color outside the box, to explore, to break a few rules, and to remain curious . And perhaps this computer science graduate may not have ever strolled into the world of beer.
As I embarked on my entrepreneurial journey, I stumbled through many obstacles. Challenges that seemed insurmountable and moments that felt unwinnable. I struggled to pay the bills, meet payroll, find customers and raise capital. Throughout those moments, I stared at constant failure, and understood. Sometimes people don’t make it despite trying their best. I learnt the importance of working hard, staying humble and remaining true to your purpose. Win or lose, give it your best, and remember to be considerate for those who don’t make it.”

Maharashtra has a coastline of 720 km, which witnesses nesting of Olive Ridley sea turtle. With occasional Green turtle, Leatherback sea turtle and Hawksbill turtle sightings. The local Forest Department along with local NGOs and communities have been working extensively towards the conservation of sea turtles. In recent years, the turtle festivals of Velas and Anjarle have gained prominence in the country. Which are a celebration of their natural breeding process. Every year, these festivals attract tourists from all parts of Maharashtra and from various other states as well.
On this World Turtle Day (23rd May), Maharashtra Tourism presents a glimpse of these spectacular globally important species:
Green Sea turtle
The green sea turtle, also known as the green turtle, black turtle or Pacific green turtle. Is a species of large sea turtle of the family Cheloniidae. Its common name refers to the green fat found beneath its carapace, not to the colour of its carapace, which is olive to black. Trawler-workers, who have sighted them along the coast. Say that the turtles are associated with rocky areas where they feed on algae. The adults usually inhabit shallow lagoons, feeding mostly on various species of sea grasses. The turtles bite off the tips of the blades of sea grass, which keeps the grass healthy. Like other sea turtles, green sea turtles migrate long distances between feeding grounds and hatching beaches. Green sea turtles are spotted often by locals in Maharashtra.
Locals in Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri districts have also spotted the Green Sea turtles recently.
Hawksbill turtle
Hawksbills are named for their narrow, pointed beak. They also have a distinctive pattern of overlapping scales on their shells that form a serrated-look on the edges. In general, it has a flattened body shape, a protective carapace, and flipper -like limbs, adapted for swimming in the open ocean. Hawksbill shells slightly change colors, depending on water temperature. While this turtle lives part of its life in the open ocean, it spends more time in shallow lagoons and coral reefs.
Adult hawksbill sea turtles typically grow to 1 m (3 ft) in length, weighing around 80 kg on average. The heaviest hawksbill ever captured weighed 127 kg.
Some locals of Khavane in Sindhudurg district reported spotting this species.
Leatherback turtle
The leatherback sea turtle sometimes called the lute turtle or leathery turtle is the largest of all living turtles and is the fourth-heaviest modern reptile. It can easily be differentiated from other modern sea turtles by its lack of a bony shell. Its shell is composed of a layer of thin, tough, rubbery skin. Strengthened by thousands of tiny bone plates that makes it look “leathery.”BhauKatdare, Founder of SahyadriNisargMitra, SansthaChiplun. Said“One leatherback sea turtle was sighted after several years in Raigad”.
Olive Ridley turtle
The Olive Ridley are tiny creatures, only as big as 70 cm, and is listed as endangered species under the Indian Wildlife Protection Act, 1972. Konkan coast in Maharashtra has been receiving Olive Ridley turtles for the past 20 years. They travel thousands of kilometres into the ocean and only the females return to the original breeding sites within a minimum of two years.
November to March is the season for the turtle to lay eggs. They dug 1- 1.5 feet deep hole in the sand to lay their eggs. This hole is around 100 to 200 km away from the sea or sometimes even 500 km away from the sea. They usually visit at night to lay eggs and leave trace marks on the sand as they leave. This is how the conservators know where the turtles have laid the eggs. The conservators then relocate the eggs to a safer place i.e. in the hatchery. After the eggs are hatched, the baby turtles are released into the ocean by the conservators.
Olive Ridley turtles feed on invertebrates and play an important role in ocean and coastal ecosystems. To witness these magnificent creatures, one can visit prominent beaches of Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg and Raigad districts in Maharashtra.

Rich, aromatic and sweet… A bite into delicious, juicy flesh of a fully ripe mango can be blissful! For mango-lovers, the summer is the time to gorge on their favourite fruit.
Maharashtra is the largest mango exporting state in the country, and accounts for over 80 per cent of the total exports. Mango is one of the leading fruit crops of the State.
The State is home to huge mango biodiversity. Although mango is grown throughout the length and breadth of the State, Konkan region is one of the biggest mango growing belts in the country. Around 205 varieties of mangoes can be found in the Western Ghats in Maharashtra. Interestingly, Maharashtra is the only State which has got Geographical Indication (GI) tag for Devgad Alphonso mango.
Another interesting point to note is that the size and shape of mango has a great deal of significance. Most of the mango varieties are predominantly named based on their size, shape, taste, aroma and liking of various Kings or Emperors.
Maharashtra Tourism presents some of the popular varieties of mangoes that are found in the State:
· Although Mankurad is extensively produced in Goa, its orchards are found in Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg. This delicious fruit is yellow and oblong, and develops black spots as it ripens.
· Malgova is a large round shaped mango which retains its green colour with hints of red when it is ripe. It can be seen in the market at the end of the season. It is mostly found in the North Konkan, and in Aurangabad, Parbhani, Beed in Aurangabad district.
· Kesar is a small to medium fruit with a roundish shape and a distinct curved tip. It has been named after Saffron or Kesar because of its orange hue. Also considered to be one of the rarest mangoes. It is harvested at the beginning of the season and found mostly in North Konkan, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbrar in Nasik district, Aurangabad district and Marathwada.
· Vanraj has purple skin and brilliant yellow flesh, with sweet and sour flavour profile. It also has good shelf life and is available in the middle of the season. It is found mostly in North Konkan region and Nasik district.
· Rajapuri is the largest of the Indian mango varieties and has an attractive combination of smooth and unblemished yellow, orange and red skin. It’s strong floral aroma and sweet flavor makes it one of the most popular table and cooking mangoes. It is also good for pickles. It is found mostly in Aurangabad district.
· Pairi is deliciously sweet in taste with mild tartness and has firm pulp. It is a nutritionally rich fruit with unique flavour and fragrance. Known to be fibrous and juicy, it is one of the most popular choices for the popular ‘aam ras’. It is found mostly in South Konkan region including Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg.
Alphonso- King of Mangoes
Alphonso is also known by different names in different regions, such as Badami, Gundu, Khader, Appas, Happus, and Kagdi Hapus. It has long been one of the world’s most popular fruits and is exported to various countries. It has a rich, creamy, delicate, non-fibrous and juicy pulp.
As per the research paper, titled ‘Mangoes through millenia’ by Dr. Y N Nene, the mention of mango was found in Upanishadas, Vedas and Mauryan Inscriptions. The original Indian mango breeds were juicy, with lots of fibre and had a short shelf-life. These mangoes in colloquial terms are called today as ‘Raywal’ or ‘Ranwal’ meaning ‘forest breed’. These forest breeds were used to create hybrids like Alphonso as these breeds were better adapted to climate change.
Alphonso was named after the Portuguese Viceroy, Alfonso de Albuquerque, who conquered Goa and laid the foundations of the Portuguese Empire in Asia in the 15th century. The main reasons for its popularity among the Portuguese and European officials were that they could include it in their regular meals and, because of its extended shelf-life, it could be sent back home as gifts.
Alphonso became the king of mangoes due to its attractive colour and delicious taste that lasts long.
Dr. Mahesh Kulkarni, Assistant Professor at Udyan Vidya Mahavidyalay, a constituent college of Dr. Babasaheb Sawant Kokan Krushi Vidyapith, said,
“Mango was named ‘Aam’ because it was commonly found and is favourite of the rich as well as poor. The area covered for cultivation of mango was 40,000 hectares in Maharashtra in 1990, now it is 4-5 lakh hectares. This has given a boost to food processing industry. Kokan Krushi Vidyapith has developed a number of technologies to promote mango cultivation across the State and all over India. The University has developed nurseries for creating healthy grafts and helped mango cultivators with essential training. In Konkan region alone, there are about 500 nurseries.”
He further added, “Mango is probably the only fruit which is known by its specific breeds. Hence I request all consumers not to stick to one variety for a lifetime. Buy prudently and try all different varieties, as you may miss out on some interesting flavours.”
Kuldeep Joshi, a mango cultivator from Devgad in Sindhudurg said,
“Our family has been producing and trading mangoes for the last 50 years. Devgad Hapus is one of the most delicate varieties of mango, so special care has to be taken after flowering. Devgad Hapus has recently been given a geographical rating, so consumers have become more aware of genuine Devgad Hapus and we hope that soon all Devgad Hapus growers will get a geographical rating certificate and thus curb the sale of fake mangoes under the name of Alphonso.”
Mango is rich source of vitamin A and C. It is used at all stages of its growth, both in its immature and mature state. Raw mango is used for making chutney, pickles, and juices. The ripe mango besides being used for dessert is also used for preparing several products like squashes, syrups, nectars, jams, and jellies. The mango kernel contains 8-10 percent good quality fat which can be used for soap and also as a substitute for cocoa butter in confectionery.
