Awareness about cleanliness & hygiene spread through Swachh Bharat Abhiyan significantly helped mitigate impact of Covid-19: Ashwini Kumar Choubey
Wide-scale awareness spread among the masses about importance of cleanliness and hygiene through Swachh Bharat Mission launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 helped in mitigating the impact of Covid-19 in India to a large extent, Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Ashwini Kumar Choubey said in an ASSOCHAM webinar organised today on the occasion of World Hand Hygiene Day.
“While the entire world is grappling with the pandemic of Covid-19, it won’t be an exaggeration to say that awareness about hygiene and cleanliness through PM’s flagship nationwide campaign of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan helped India contain the spread of coronavirus much better than various countries,” said Mr Choubey while interacting with industry leaders and delegates in a webinar on ‘World Hand Hygiene Day,’ organised by ASSOCHAM jointly with Narayana Health.
“On Hand Hygiene Day, marked by the World Health Organisation (WHO), it is imperative to spread among frontline workers, children and everyone else the importance of integrating healthy habit and adopting hygienic practice of hand washing with soap to control the spread of various diseases and infections,” he said.
He also said that viral diseases and infections are a grave challenge to entire world. “The pandemic of Covid-19 is a curse for global community including India and thus we need to become self-reliant in terms of dealing with this disease and defeat the same.”
The Minister stated that there is a direct correlation between hygiene and good health. “Good personal hygiene is one of the most effective ways we have to protect ourselves and others from illness, especially hand washing as most infections are spread through dirty, unwashed hands. The more cleanliness and hygiene we maintain, healthier we become.”
He also lauded the government’s initiatives taken to boost the morale of frontline Covid-19 warriors including the healthcare officials, sanitation workers, security forces and others.
Sharing his views, ASSOCHAM’s senior vice-president, Vineet Agarwal said, “As we battle Covid, hand hygiene will continue to be perhaps the most effective saviour and we believe it is very important today to reaffirm and highlight its importance.”
Deepak Sood, secretary general, ASSOCHAM said that cleanliness and sanitation, particularly, this simple but important practice of hand hygiene is one of the most critical and effective tool to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.
Before & after the Lockdown
The COVID 19 outbreak and the subsequent lockdown have disrupted all kinds of business activities round the globe. Textile industry is too facing the declining rate of sales due to sudden shut downs of businesses. The textile industry plays a crucial role in restoring India’s culture and heritage but now as per the current issued guidelines by govt. authorities it is trying to relocate itself in the market while taking effective measures.
OBEETEE, one of the leading hand-woven carpets brand was started in 1920. The frontline operations of the brand are run from Mirzapur in Uttar Pradesh where 25,000 weavers and several designers are working with the brand. Being a responsible and committed organization, we ensure a safe and healthy working environment for all, with state-of-the-art facilities and unmatched employee benefits.
Angelique Dhama, Spokesperson and Chief Marketing Officer of said, “OBEETEE weavers and designers are the cornerstone of our business. As a brand, we consider them as our responsibility and take pride in our long –standing relationships with them. Considering the current situation, we have taken proper precautions and measures for their well –being and will continue to do same in future as well”
In these current times of the Pandemic, while many operate from the safety of their homes , we are actively distributing food and sanitation supplies to over 2000 families that are spread over 100 small villages around the factory,
Over the past week, Obeetee’s senior members have been supplying essentials to those who are most valued at the organization -the weavers, craftsmen and their families, to sustain their livelihood and well being. The activity is being undertaken with several precautions like social distancing, use of hygiene kits including hand sanitizers, masks and gloves to be sure of everyone’s safety.
At the time of distribution, the families are being briefed of the importance of hand washing , maintaining physical distance within their social circle and staying aware and safe in the current situations. With this, we have been also adopting preventive measures to ensure the safety of our employees and everybody.
Even before the lockdown, the safety measures were put in action at the factory. To avoid touching the surface where multiple people mark their visits, the biometric attendance punching was put on hold at all our offices and factories until any further notice on the spread. Employees were using their ID cards only for attendance punching. our employees were scanned with thermo scanners for any abnormalities in their body temperatures by the office security and people below 94F or above 98F are sent back home and advised to see the doctor without any further investigation. The process was same for our offices and factories.
As per the WHO guidelines, it is more important to wash our hands frequently with running water and soap rather than just sanitizing them. To ensure this practice our employees were supposed to have a mandatory hand wash before entering the office or the factory after which only they can proceed any further. Also within the premises alcohol based hand sanitizers were placed at different places and all employees sanitized their hands frequently throughout the day. To avoid any communicable contact of illness the , it was made compulsory for the factory staff to wear face mask, after which only they are allowed to enter the factory premises. The company also provided mask to workers who needed them.
Since the outside postal or courier packets contains maximum possibility of carrying antigens, and to avoid such happenings they are properly treated by heat before opening and handled with gloves on.
We have been constantly ensuring awareness of COVID outbreak and to do that we have made posters and others awareness materials which are placed all around the workplaces with helpline numbers incase anyone wants to know more about the symptoms or consult a professional help.
In addition to this we have constituted committee in each section who will be responsible to identify the employee working there if they have any symptoms or health complaint and report to HOD and Admin Department.
Healthy habits can fight with any sort of illness but team effort is always needed to conquer any battle. If together we stand strong against the virus with solidarity, then we will surely be able to get rid ofthe pandemic in less time.
Impact of Interiors on Human Psyche
By Gobind Kapur, Partner & Product Designer at Maison Du Luxe
Considering the current scenario, the work from home situation is here to stay. The pandemic across the globe has forced people to work remotely and they have no option but to comply. By practicing simple techniques like social distancing and self-quarantine one can contribute to controlling the further outspread of the virus. With all of the private sector practicing it, there is no room for an alternative. But that doesn’t mean the entire process has to be dull and monotonous. The interiors of a house play an imperative role in human psychology as our surroundings have a deep impact on the mind. While the situation might not be under any man’s control, what we can do is ensure a better environment that promotes work. Gobind Kapur, Partner & Product Designer at Maison Du Luxe believes in designing and delivering living environments that are timeless, experiential, and on the leading edge of design innovations. The spaces designed by them aim to be bespoke & flawless and in many ways, make working from home both a seamless experience and an aesthetic delight. His own house is a stunning exemplification of a remarkable interiors adept with aesthetics & functionality. The space is a boon in terms of a visual treat in these depressing times.

With ample natural light entering through the window & reflection of various hues, this living room acts as a catalyst for work efficiency.
An area that’s not always taken into consideration is the psychological effect of interior design on one’s subconscious. The choices that one makes when deciding how your home will look have a documented effect on your emotions and perceptions. The lockdown has left people across the globe feeling underwhelmed and less driven to go about their daily routines. The environment around us affects our mood, productivity, energy levels, aptitude, and attitude.

A beautiful interior is a space where one feels relaxed, comfortable, organized, and at peace as the idea of the space is to be thought of as therapeutic. Sitting in one corner of the house can get quite dull and monotonous, Choosing the perfect set up to work from home can aid in improving skills and better work performance.

The wallpaper in the background bought from Italy reminds Gobind of a time when travelling was allowed & exploring various places for inspiration was the norm. Sitting in his favorite spot he works on designing innovative furniture that promotes social distancing by implementing self cleaning materials on it. It considers communication and user experience for instance how spaces work, how individuals respond to this when going about their daily lives, and how people move around space and interact with objects or people. With the ability to combine engineering, construction, art, and psychology in creating spaces interior specialists must consider the basic provision of design.

While the COVID-19 pandemic has brought a wave of despair, uncertainty, and disturbance, it is important to remind ourselves that although the situation isn’t under our control our approach is. The way we look at it defines our stake in this crucial manner. All architects and designers should do what they do best: face the future with optimism and creativity and adapt to present circumstances. We must join hands so that when the coronavirus pandemic passes, we will emerge ready to design a better future.
Ways to Keep Hair Healthy
By Make-up Expert Aashmeen Munjaal
In the time of quarantine along with your skin and body it is really important and best time to take care of your hair as well to avoid roughness and damage. Therefore, in this house arrest, quick ideas for best Hair Spa by using ingredients available from your kitchen itself.
* Firstly keep a regular routine of shampooing and conditioning your hair. Cleaning process is very important. Whenever you shampoo or condition your hair, make sure to give natural rinse, for this you can use Chai patti, (boil it in a mug of water, and cool)after conditioning you can rinse with this tea water, or in the same way you can rinse by coffee as well.
You can make and use rinse from peel of lemon, orange, watermelon. It’s called fruit peel rinse. They carry high amount of protein which is best for your hair. In the same way you can do vegetable rinse by using green vegetables from your kitchen. They carry iron, zinc and vitamins which can do wonders with your hair. You can use this rinse process according to the length of your hair.
* Secondly, never spa your hair in dirty scalp. Do shampoo your hair, if you don’t have conditioner, you can use body moisturizer to start your spa. And if you don’t have moisturizer, you can use curd or milk creams for spa. Make small sections in your hair and smoothly apply curd or milk cream to nourish your hair. Make sure to use your finger to apply these creams in your hair, it gives natural heat. Keep giving finger massage and then have comb massage. Then you can give steam (if you have steamer in your house, else hot towel will work). Keep for approximately 40 minutes. Now rinse your hair.
* One of the best hair spas which I also apply at home is Banana, one of the best fruit which is highly beneficial to your hair. If you have ripened banana at home, mash it in mixer grinder and apply on your hair. It is called banana pulp. No matter your hair is oily, dry or frizzy, this is one of the easiest and best process to give spa to your hair. Apart from this you can use curd and egg pack. For this you can use full egg along with the yellow part, mix it in curd depending upon your length. Apply this on your hair by using cotton or brush. Massage your head and keep it for half an hour. After wash you will see a natural shine in your hair.
