Second Act Begins

Women Beyond Midlife: A New Conversation on Purpose, Independence and Healthy Ageing After 50

As Indian women live longer, remain professionally active and continue to play pivotal roles in their families and communities, the conversation around women beyond midlife is steadily evolving. Challenging conventional perceptions of ageing, Yagn Foundation, in association with System Research Society (SRS), launched Second Act with its inaugural seminar, Women Beyond Midlife: Informed, Empowered & Thriving, at the India International Centre, New Delhi. Held under the mentorship of Spiritual Master Shree Shree Babaji, the initiative reimagines life after 50 as a stage defined by confidence, purpose and new possibilities.

Envisioned as a national platform, Second Act seeks to foster informed conversations around healthy ageing, longevity and women’s empowerment while creating a supportive community for women navigating midlife and beyond. The seminar brought together experts from healthcare, finance, law, education, entrepreneurship and public policy to share practical insights on the opportunities and challenges that shape women’s lives after 50.

Mrs. Renu Narang, CEO of NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam Ltd., attended as the Chief Guest, while renowned Bharatanatyam exponent Geeta Chandran was the Guest of Honour. Speaking at the event, Renu Narang said the initiative encourages society to shift the narrative on ageing from limitations to possibilities, recognising the experience, wisdom and leadership women continue to bring to every stage of life.

The day featured four panel discussions centred on the key aspects of midlife and healthy longevity.

The opening session on financial independence and legacy planning explored the importance of smart investing, succession planning, inheritance rights, wills and protection against financial fraud. The speakers highlighted that financial preparedness empowers women to make informed and independent decisions throughout later life.

A discussion on health, hormones and healthy longevity focused on women’s well-being after menopause, covering preventive healthcare, nutrition, hormonal balance, bone and heart health, mental wellness and lifestyle practices that support long-term health.

The technology session examined how artificial intelligence and digital platforms are creating new opportunities while also exposing users to cyber fraud, misinformation, deepfakes and privacy concerns. The panel encouraged women to embrace technology with confidence by strengthening their digital literacy and online awareness.

The concluding discussion on identity, purpose and reinvention after 60 explored how retirement and changing family dynamics can become opportunities to pursue new passions, meaningful work and personal fulfilment, reinforcing that reinvention has no age limit.

The seminar attracted retired civil servants, doctors, educators, lawyers, entrepreneurs, corporate professionals and social workers, reflecting the growing interest in conversations around women after 50, purposeful ageing and lifelong learning.

A highlight of the event was the launch of Shree Shree Babaji’s book, The Night That Divided My Life, which chronicles two decades of experiences and reflections on the human journey.

Following its successful debut in Delhi, Second Act will expand to cities including Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Nagpur, Guwahati and Patna, bringing together experts, policymakers and communities to continue the dialogue around women beyond midlife, healthy ageing and purposeful living.

The seminar concluded with a powerful message: life after 50 is not an ending but the beginning of a meaningful second act—one shaped by independence, resilience, lifelong learning and the freedom to embrace new possibilities.
