JJ Valaya’s SIDDI Explores Heritage Through Contemporary Couture

The lights dimmed, conversations faded, and the anticipation in the room shifted toward storytelling through couture. At Hyundai India Couture Week 2026, JJ Valaya’s SIDDI unfolded as a collection inspired by the Siddis of India and their journey from African origins to becoming an integral part of India’s cultural fabric.
From the opening look, Valaya explored that history through the lens of cultural exchange, translating it into couture with meticulous craftsmanship instead of literal references. Every look carried the unmistakable design language of the House of Valaya, with the story unfolding through embroidery, textiles, and silhouette.
Lehengas enriched with intricate zardozi, aari, and dori embroidery stood alongside contemporary saris, fluid anarkalis, impeccably tailored bandhgalas, and regal sherwanis, reflecting Valaya’s mastery of ceremonial dressing. A palette of antique gold, ivory, noir, champagne, jewel tones, and earthy neutrals brought richness to the collection, while texture, embroidery, and construction remained at the heart of every look.
One of the defining moments of the collection was the couture debut of the iconic Shifting Leaves Chevron motif. Originally created for his daughter Hoorvi’s wedding, the motif returned in understated shades of black, beige, and metallics, adding a personal dimension to the collection while showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship synonymous with the House.
SIDDI remained consistent in its vision, bringing together historical influences and contemporary couture through refined craftsmanship and thoughtful design. The presentation also marked another milestone for the House of Valaya with the unveiling of its dedicated haute couture bridal salon at The World of Valaya in New Delhi, extending the brand’s bespoke couture journey that has shaped Indian luxury fashion for more than three decades.
As the House approaches its 35th anniversary, SIDDI reflects the enduring values that have shaped JJ Valaya’s work for more than three decades. Every silhouette, textile, and embroidered detail speaks to a design philosophy built on heritage, craftsmanship, and timeless couture—qualities that continue to define the House of Valaya.
