Delhi High Court Decision

Producer Rahul Mittra wins case against Youtube

In a landmark decision which will have widespread ramifications in the entertainment industry, The Delhi High Court has asked Google LLC to remove from Youtube film-maker Rahul Mittra’s hit 2011 Bollywood film ‘Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster’ which was recently uploaded illegally on the social media platform. Justice Rajiv Shakdher in an interim order on Tuesday directed Youtube to take down the movie within 48 hours after its lawyer said that the platform has been taken over by US-based Google LLC which will comply with the direction.

The order came on a lawsuit filed by the movie’s producer, Rahul Mittra, who is the sole owner of all the rights of the film in perpetuity. In his plea, Mittra contended that uploading of the movie on Youtube has degraded his rights causing him wrongful loss as this may affect the sale of the movie to digital, video streaming & Satellite platforms.

The High Court issued notice to Youtube and Google LLC seeking their response to the lawsuit. The proceedings were held via video conferencing. “Furthermore, having heard learned counsel for the parties, I am inclined to direct defendant No. 1 (Youtube) to take down the subject movie.
“At this stage, Mamta Rani Jha (Youtube’s lawyer) also informs me that defendant No. 1 has been taken over by a US entity by the name Google LLC and that the aforesaid directions will be complied with by the said entity. The statement of Ms. Jha in this behalf is taken on record,” the judge said.

Rahul Mittra is a popular Bollywood film-maker, having produced films like the Saheb biwi aur Gangster trilogy starring Jimmy Sheirgill, Randeep Hooda & Mahie Gill, Revolver Rani starring Kangana Ranaut, Bullett Raja starring Saif Ali Khan, Sarkar 3 starring Amitabh Bachchan and the upcoming Torbaaz starring Sanjay Dutt, amongst others.

Cleaning & Sanitizing Jewellery

DOs & DON’Ts

By Jewellery Designer Archana Aggarwal

Metals carry virus for a long time so it is imperative that we take care of our jewellery in the right manner. I endorse both traditional and conventional was of cleaning and sanitizing Jewellery.

One should try to avoid the alcohol-based sanitizers for Cleaning and Sanitizing Jewellery as they can damage the surface. The best practice is to remove them, wash them separately with soap and lukewarm water. Don’t forget to wash your hands following the 20-second rule and let the pieces dry.

One can also try the UV sanitizer cases, which are a great non-contact way to disinfect larger accessories or fragile pieces you don’t want to be wiping or scrubbing.

Hon’ble Minister of Parliament, Suresh Prabhu, speaks on challenges faced by Tourism & Hospitality industry

At the Bird Group Leadership Initiative webinar held recently ,Hon’ble Member of Parliament, Suresh Prabhu, spoke on the challenges faced by tourism and hospitality industry as an aftermath of Covid-19. This webinar was the third in the series held by Bird Group Leadership Initiative and was conducted in collaboration with PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry & WTTC.

Secretary General, WTTCII,  Sujit Banerjee, , opened the session and requested Mr. Suresh Prabhu to share his insights.

Speaking at the webinar titled ‘Tourism, Hospitality & Transport Challenges.’, Mr Prabhu  said that the covid-19 pandemic has clearly and indelibly changed how we live and travel with great degree of uncertainty looming large over the tourism industry, and the industry’s biggest challenge is to reinstate a person’s confidence in travel. The new protocols will also pose a challenge to the sector as to how to keep the travel affordable while ensuring safety of travellers. He reiterated that in the coming times, it is expected that there will also be an unemployment issue in the travel and hospitality industry, affecting the scenario at large.

He added that to step up the trust factor, the hospitality industry has to dramatically change the way it operates and communicates with people. Mr Prabhu also cautioned that the industry will have to grapple with hassles of varied hues post opening up of the sector, starting from practicing social distancing norms to managing human resource.

Chairperson, Tourism Committee, PHD Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Radha Bhatia, said, “We are honoured to have Sh Suresh Prabhu amongst us and we welcome his valuable inputs and insights. It is little disheartening to find the sector has not been given its due importance in all the stimulus packages announced so far. We still expect prolongation if waiver of interest on moratorium period is granted for driving liquidity into the indisposed sector till the time the industry revives.’

Hospitality sector has been one of the worst-affected sectors from the corona virus-induced lockdown. Industry bodies have estimated that the sector could take Rs 5 lakh crore hit due to economic activities coming to a halt. The opening of the economy is, however, set to improve the sentiments and help in reviving it.

Pregnant in a Pandemic

Steps you can take to protect yourself

By Dr. Vanshika Gupta Adukia

Pregnancy is a time of immense joy mixed with slight jitters on what lies ahead. The expecting mother’s body goes through a whirlwind of anatomical and physiological changes as she nurtures a new life within her over a period of nine months. This is a period where an expecting mother relies most on her family, friends, and healthcare providersfor her over-all physical, mental and emotional well-being.

But what is an expecting mother supposed to expect, when suddenly the world seems to be coming to a halt, ‘social distancing’ is the current need of the hour, health care providers begin advising against meeting for otherwise routine yet mandatory prenatal checkups- catching up with family let alone friends is absolutely out of question and global health seems to be enveloped in a looming crisis.

This unfortunately has become reality for the odd 200 million expecting mothers across the globe today. Being pregnant in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic is every women’s worst nightmare coming true.

With only symptomatic management, no cure yet and a vaccination that is still to see the light of the day- pregnant women are left fearing for the lives of both themselves and their baby.

The general tone set for the COVID-19 disease states that one must look at keeping those in the ‘high risk’ group safe- children, old and pregnant specifically. This statement has left those planning on conceiving or already expecting in a world full of uncertainty and fear. What does this imply for someone who is currently pregnant?

Are chances of contracting the virus higher?

Does contracting the virus during pregnancy risk the baby’s life?

Could there be life threatening implications for the mother?

Would the unborn baby sustain the pregnancy?

The list of questions that anxious pregnant mothers and families have go over and beyond these.

Although with limited data, what we currently do know is this-

Pregnancy does not increase the chances of contracting the COVID-19 virus in general, but years of research states and has proven that pregnant women are known to have a lowered immunity that compromises with their respiratory systems and makes them more prone to respiratory infections. Keeping this in mind chances are that if an expecting mother were to contract the COVID-19 virus her probability of landing up with respiratory complications are higher than that of any other non-pregnant women her age.

However, there is no evidence to suggest that a COVID-19 positive mother could pass on the infection to her unborn baby. Studies done on women positive for COVID-19 who had delivered during the pandemic revealed no evidence of the virus in their amniotic fluid, placenta tissue and breastmilk. This indicates that there is no proof to confirm vertical transmission of the virus from a positive COVID-19 expecting mother to her baby in the uterus.

Although, if an expecting COVID-19 positive woman was to deliver, currently her only option would be to undergo a Caesarean section, post which the World Health Organization advices that the mother must be encouraged to breastfeed her baby.

Unfortunately, the risk of the COVID-19 positive mother infecting her newborn through contact cannot be negated and this is something that has been seen in cases where newborns have tested positive for the virus recently, in cases reported in China and United Kingdom both.

The following precautions are recommended for COVID positive new mothers while feeding:

  1. Wash hands before touching the baby, breast pump or bottle.
  2. Try to avoid coughing or sneezing on the baby while feeding at the breast.
  3. Consider wearing a face mask while breastfeeding.
  4. Follow recommendations for pump cleaning after each use. Ensure proper sterilization of all the equipment used to pump and feed the baby.
  5. Consider asking someone who is well to feed expressed breast milk to the baby.

Precautions for expecting mothers to avoid contracting the COVID-19 virus:

  1. Avoid any non-essential use of public transport, large or small social gatherings, leisure outings to public spaces, as far as possible.
  2. Try scheduling all prenatal check-ups telephonically or virtually if it is a probability. Also look at rescheduling ultrasound appointments under the guidance of the gynaecologist.
  3. Avoid any contact with any individual who has travelled recently, has shown any symptoms of high temperature, cough and cold, or flu.
  4. Look at building your own immunity by adding a Vit C supplement and natural foods like lemon juice, honey, turmeric, ginger. Increase the intake of warm fluids and work against keeping your nasal passage dry by inhaling steam if comfortable.
  5. Opt for a flu shot under the supervision of the chosen healthcare provider.
  6. Restrict the number of visitors or guests coming home and limit the entry of outsiders who could be coming in contact with several groups of people.

Expecting mothers are advised to keep in mind that hospital guidelines and health strategies are also in flux, therefore it is a good idea to be prepared for changes depending on the situation at hand. Pregnancy goals and strategies that were once planned and were to be executed closer to delivery, may have to be completely revised and adapted to the requirements of the hour at that point of time.

World Environment Day

Get Your Nature Fix from the Comfort of Your Home

The corona virus pandemic has put travel plans on hold. And with social distancing and quarantine being enforced across the world, people are seeking ways to stay connected while staying apart. Luckily, you can still explore the great outdoors of the United States from the comfort of your home. This World Environment Day, get your nature fix by taking a virtual tour of some of the most spectacular U.S. National Parks. Transport yourself to these distant lands and brush up on your knowledge of America’s greatest parks, which include:

Dry Tortugas National Park, Florida

In the stunning cerulean blue waters of the Gulf of Mexico, Dry Tortugas National Park is one of the most remote National Parks in the USA. The park sits 113 kilometers off the coast of Key West, Florida and is only accessible by ferry, boat or seaplane. But the park’s stunning ruins and colorful coral reefs make the trek worthwhile.

This 259-square-kilometer park is anchored by the 19th century Fort Jefferson and the picturesque Garden Key Lighthouse, both of which played an important role in the Florida Keys maritime past. Dry Tortugas is also home to 30 species of coral, an abundance of brightly colored fishes and marine animals that frequent the turquoise sea.

Carlsbad Caverns National Park, New Mexico

The 19,000-hectacre Carlsbad Caverns National Park features an incredible array of wildlife, plants and natural wonders in caves, along hiking trails and abutting rock formations. With about 350 kilometres of mapped underground caves, deep canyons and ancient sea ledges, Carlsbad Caverns’ beauty reaches above and below the Guadalupe Mountains of south-eastern New Mexico.

On the surface of the park, canyons offer opportunities to hike, bike and climb, while the windy plains are home to a variety of wildlife. Below the park’s hiking trails and scenic overlooks sit more than 119 known caves, all formed from the surrounding limestone and all awaiting exploration.

Bryce Canyon National Park, Utah

Bryce Canyon National Park is the favorite national park of many visitors to the south-western U.S. It is not a real canyon, in that it is not eroded by flowing water. Instead, the park’s natural geologic formations are caused by water freezing and thawing, as well as natural erosion from rainfall.

Visitors are immediately captivated by one of its most unique features, the hoodoos. These limestone-rich pillars range from average human height to more than 10 stories high. Because of Bryce Canyon’s unique erosional patterns, hoodoos are more abundant here than anywhere else in the world. The easiest way to see them is by looking down from the canyon’s rim, but there are a handful of opportunities to hike or ride horses through the canyon with local guides.

Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, Hawai’i

Volcanoes are living proof that the Earth hasn’t finished forming. You can witness it with your own eyes in Hawai’i Volcanoes National Park, located on the southeastern shore of the Big Island. Here, hot, molten lava carves pathways through the stark landscape, steaming as it meets the ocean.

The 134,795-hectare park was created around the world’s most active volcanoes – Kīlauea, which has been in continuous eruption since 1983, and Mauna Loa, which last erupted in 1984. Recognized as a World Heritage Site, plants and animals populate seven ecological zones here.
