Home Workout Trends observed during the COVID-19 Lockdown

‘At home’ Workouts

By Dr. Shreyash Gujrathi.

We as Fitness Enthusiasts are desperately missing our gyms in the lockdown period! Isn’t it? And at the same time, we are not aware, for how long is this going to last. Anyways, irrespective of the lockdown, we must not skip exercising every day. Here are a 6 Home workout trends that you can follow during your lockdown, from Monday to Saturday (Sundays off) to make your ‘At home’ workouts more interesting and regular.

  1. Plyometrics.

These are exercises just like your regular body weight exercises, the only difference is, Plyometric are rapid and bouncy.

You can easily perform these in your house.

The bounce helps in more impact on the weight bearing joints and helps elicit more muscle wear and tear as compared to simple body weight exercises.

  1. Aerobics and Zumba.

Lockdown can be boring and charging yourself mentally is task sometimes.

Go to Youtube, and play some music or a Zumba session and simply follow the steps as it is.

Even a 40 to 50 minutes Zumba session can get your heart beats pumping and burn fat.

  1. Animal training.

This is relatively the youngest form of exercise techniques. We all know, animals are physically stronger than humans. Animal movements are arduous, difficult and mimicking them certainly help us recruit a different set of muscles in our body which we usually don’t use in our daily lives.

Animal training simply means mimicking animal movements like spider walks, bear walks, frog jumps, etc.

  1. Core session.

I have heard, there are 1200 to 2000 core exercises! And performing just 10 to 15 of them, 2 sets each with 10 to 15 reps in each set can make up a 40 min core exercise session.

Though spot reduction is a myth, core sessions help to increase your core endurance, reduce your lethargy and burn fat.

  1. Functional Training.

These are body weight exercises which mimic your daily activities and help you become more functional and robust.

for example, pullups and chin-ups, push-ups, squats, lunges and exercises which can be done by using any prop which is handy in your house like step ups on a chair.

  1. Tabata Training.

Of all the 6 options listed here, this is the most difficult if you follow the rules of Tabata.

The rule is choose any number of exercises, in any order, but you have to perform them 10 seconds on and 10 seconds off! Or 20seconds on and 20 off, by the end of the session, you burn out!

WORK FROM HOME – CHROMED DESIGN STUDIO

Beat the Pandemic

Work from Home

Architecture is not the creation of Non-Living Products made of merely Brick and Concrete; rather it is the art of creating Living Organisms that live in Harmony with Mother Nature. Chromed Design Studio is the tree with roots dug deep into the soil that extracts the best juices of design, management, and execution, to nourish the tree and for providing a sustainable environment to the world. The viral outbreak of Covid19 has brought the world to a standstill. In these trying times, Chromed Design Studio understands the severity of the situation and urges everyone to take the necessary precautions. Given the current health crisis, Work from home has become almost a necessity. Being a responsible firm they have implemented work from home way before it was mandatory and compulsory. As the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve, they recognize the responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of customers, partners, employees and communities above all else.

Ar. Abhigyan Neogi, Founder of Chromed Design Studio reassures that a few days of being careful will help beat this pandemic. Team Chromed is spending this time to do research and future proof of their upcoming projects by focusing on the minutest of details. This isolation time can be utilized for a more healthy and productive research-based work. In times of adversity, the only objective should be to face the problems and collectively support each other in times of need. It is imperative that focus is not lost and the maximum time is spent on research and preparation for the future rather than thinking about today. This time can be used for the collective benefit for the firm as well as the individuals. It is the perfect opportunity to take control over one’s routine and integrate new software into their arsenal. Architects and designers can work on improving their drawing skills. In addition to that, they can stay well-informed and proactive. There are so many myths about Covid-19, but it is the job of a leader to plan for a range of scenarios and make sure all preparations have been made, and lead with a spirit of optimism.

The major challenge for architects and designers during this pandemic is the inability to collaborate and work as a team. Architecture is practiced on the ground so while building and working on a site one is physically present there and witnesses everything. Architects need to interact and meet to discuss a lot of things in person and this is the core challenge posed by work from home. Technically if the approach is individualistic then it might be a viable option but in case of collaborations for larger projects then work from home is not suitable. Having said that it is in the best interest of everyone to stay indoors and practice self-isolation for the greater good. In times like these, it is important to keep abreast of the latest developments from reputable sources. However, incessant monitoring of news and social media will not only hinder workflow but needlessly increase anxiety. During working hours, avoid them entirely so that the focus is entirely on work. Discipline is important when working from home. While it is vital to maintain productivity levels during core work hours, it is equally important to detach from work when needed. Take this as an opportunity for the world to heal itself & come together as one single human race. Be flexible, communicate often, and listen to your team members. Let’s awaken to a new beginning that resonates with nothing but peace, love, and compassion for each other.

IT’S ALL ABOUT FINDING THE CALM IN THE CHAOS

WORK FROM HOME

IT’S ALL ABOUT FINDING THE CALM IN THE CHAOS

While the outbreak has already created inconveniences for millions of people in the form of travel restrictions, health scares and stock market turmoil, it has been a rather unexciting time for most employees working in the private sector. Ar. Manish Dikshit, Founding principle of Aum Architects states that- “As responsible citizens of the country we should support all the efforts and initiatives by the Central and State governments to fight Coronavirus”. For the first time in history the business hub of the country, Mumbai is in a state of complete lockdown.  Aum Architects had been contemplating this situation and had planned as to how they would carry out this exercise. The challenge was in terms of how the core design team would interact with each other and amicably communicate the designs. For that, their company has been using a lot of software to help with cloud-based storage which aided work from home. There are ways to deliver results and avoid going stir-crazy, from setting up a good workspace to the way one talks to their team.

Manish Dikshit highly recommends the use of technology as much as possible. Also, looking at the bright side, a positive thing that one can learn from WFH is that offices can be decongested and work can be accomplished with essential and limited resources available. Mental health is an important aspect that needs full attention. To have a healthy state of mind while engaging in work from home should be of utmost priority. “We are in physical isolation from the world but we can use technology to connect with our loved ones. Make sure you use this time to get back to long lost hobbies or learn new things”, he says. This time of isolation can be used in a variety of ways to accomplish long-forgotten goals for oneself.

Apart from the usual office work, Manish Dikshit is making sure his team attends the maximum number of webinars on various digital platforms. By connecting with other architects and members of the design fraternity, it aids them in having a broader perspective on how to cope up with the current scenario. In an attempt to keep his team abreast with the latest software being used in architecture, Ar. Manish makes sure everyone takes online courses in different departments. Getting trained in terms of managing projects and participating in as many design competitions as possible is what keeps Team Aum busy during the lockdown. Dividing his time equally, Manish spends half the time with his family and the other half is reserved for work. It is the collective responsibility as a team, to lift each other in times of need and guide each other through the process. The lockdown period can leave the employees feeling underwhelmed but everyone needs to remember this is for the greater good.

The BISBO 10-Point Checklist For News

FAKE vs REAL

The BISBO 10-Point Checklist For News

“People purposely spread fake news…
It creates a mess,
but they couldn’t care less
As all they want are a few million views.”
As the COVID lockdown shows no signs of respite, we’re all caught in a fishbowl scenario, trying to make sense of the world around us. Newsfeeds from sources like TV, Whatsapp and social media share a blurry picture indeed, leaving us to sift through real or fake news.”We need to be vigilant of what we see, what we hear and subsequently what we share. Misinformation and fake news are as harmful as the COVID-19 outbreak – practice social distancing here too”, said Shakir Ebrahim, the founder of YouTube-based news and current affairs channels, Bisbo.

The video explainer outfit is guiding its audience towards a deep-dive for fake news which they had created two years ago and remains as relevant today. The video, ‘Fake news and how to spot it’ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EordQ1P3Cjo is an easy 10-point checklist by which any news consumer can figure out whether an event is authentic or not.

The 10-point checklist promises to give a real sense of what’s going on and stop the flow of fake news. How? It covers the following areas:

1. Is it reported by only one news source?
2. Is the news unusual?
3. How is the grammar in the accompanying text?
4. What type of headlines are click-bait.
5. Does the news report contain specifics of date, time, and place?
6. How you can use Google image search to authentic pics
7. Have you checked the source website?
8. Is it an .ru or .co extension?
9. Does it mis-spell a popular news channel?
10. Is the news source authenticated?

Each report, in itself, allows readers to judge its authenticity by answering whether it sounds logical in the first place. An extended curfew in today’s times seems to be real; 100 people miraculously cured through cow urine does not.

Next, a check for veracity also involves an examination on the content and its sources. A clear origin, names of references cited here, a reverse check on the images, multiple outlets with the same information – these are all ways to prove that it’s true. A quality check on the news item is essential too.

“Often, fake news items are more focused on sensational tidbits and not on the way the story has been written or composed. So, watch out for obvious mistakes – grammar, poor images, no clear sources, excessive links in the mix and those give-away exclamation marks!” added Ebrahim.

An agenda is a warning signal too. Unfortunately, fake news is a deliberate attempt to bring gains to one end or losses to another. BISBO has highlighted that fake news, especially in heightened tensions, can be used to spread fear, hate or violence. Cow lynching, communal tensions and the current spread of fear of succumbing to the outbreak are all examples of this impact of fake news.

We recommend running each message by these rules, and you will be able to sift through the vast mounds of forwards and news reports that would come your way. Still, exercise caution and go through what’s happening before you think of sharing it ahead in your groups.
